Excellent.
Ads suck, and advertising agencies taking advantage of the leverage Minecraft has with children to advertise their garbage to them is pretty despicable.
I was worried this was going to lean the exact opposite direction when I started reading.

This is a bad thing though... Ads may suck, but it's YOUR CHOICE whether you download a map that was paid for by another company. For example, the Tomorrowland map.
Are you going to try and tell me that THIS is a despicable use of Minecraft?
This addition to the brand guidelines is going to kill off a huge chunk of content-creating community.

it's YOUR CHOICE
I'm not a lawyer, but I'm pretty sure children are not considered of sound mind to make lawful contracts.
A Minecraft map about your movie, your TV show, your theme park, your toy, your school, your candy, your fast food - all of those are simply leveraging a child's love for a particular game to make them associate whatever you're advertising with that love.
This isn't much different from telling a child that you'll give them a piece of candy if they sign a contract. The child doesn't care about the contract, they don't care about the advertisement. They care about the candy, the Minecraft.
And since advertising is designed to affect people in ways they don't realize, it's despicable.
I don't care how pretty the Minecraft map is, that thing you linked me is simply designed to get childrens' asses in theater seats, using Minecraft as leverage when they otherwise might not give a flying fuck about the movie.

lawful contracts? What the fuck are you on about? We are talking about downloading maps. Nobody is forcing anyone to download or play anything.
If they see a fun map being played by their favourite YouTuber and they go "Hey, that looks cool, maybe I'll play that", then they are free to do so and vice versa.
If someone is a fan of Tomorrowland, why should they not get to experience this map made in Minecraft? Two things they love. If someone is a fan of building and architecture, they would probably enjoy the map too. There is no advertisement being forced down peoples throats.
Sure part of it's purpose is to get people excited for the movie, but what is so inherently wrong about that? Disney paid content creators to create something awesome.
Now they are not going to get paid to make maps. None of us are. So this barely affects large companies, but it definitely does affect those of us who do map-commissions.
You might not realise it but money allows more time to be put into a map and therefore more effort and hopefully the outcome is an amazing map that people will love to play. See The Heist for instance.
That was one of the most popular 1.8 maps ever. Reason? It was fun to play! Nobody would play something if it weren't fun. Did the in-game product placement detract from the game? Not really, no. It was still a creative experience that brought enjoyment to people.
You see adverts all the time on TV and YouTube and everywhere... Those aren't even OPTIONAL nor do they provide (usually) any enjoyment whatsoever. But when a map-making group gets paid by a company to create an awesome experience suddenly it's a massive problem?

I'm "on about" children being capable of making educated choices. Come on now, don't pretend to be dense just to win an argument.
why should they not get to experience this map made in Minecraft?
Nobody is saying someone cannot make a map of Tomorrowland in Minecraft. Mojang is saying the owners of Tomorrowland cannot make a Tomorrowland map in Minecraft in order to advertise their movie.
what is so inherently wrong about that?
It's taking advantage of childrens' love of Minecraft to convince them to see a movie that they otherwise might not have any interest in.
It's not very different from offering a child a piece of their favorite candy if they'll promise to buy a copy of your magazine, which itself has nothing to do with candy.
It's emotional manipulation. Like all advertising, of course, but directed specifically at children who do not know any better. (Aside - yes, advertising on childrens' TV networks is absolutely despicable, too.)

No I don't. I block them all and don't watch TV.

Nobody is saying someone cannot make a map of Tomorrowland in Minecraft.
The map linked would not exist if it were not commissioned by Polaris, hence nobody would get to experience it.
No promise or "lawful contract" is being made.
The maps/mods are also based around the product they are advertising, so by their nature don't have "nothing to do with" the product.
A much better analogy would be a movie-themed rollercoaster, which are already a big thing.
[–]Serbaayuu 0ポイント1ポイント2ポイント 2時間前 (2子コメント)
So what?
If someone wants to make it and it isn't the person who owns Tomorrowland, they're free to make it.
It's not Mojang's problem that nobody gives enough of a shit to make it unless they're going to get millions of advertising dollars from it.
Correct, but you missed the point of the analogy.
The point of the analogy is not the "promise", it's the emotional manipulation. Children are being manipulated into purchasing a product using their favored game as leverage. The reference to contracts is to further make the point that children, in particular (as opposed to adults), are considered incapable of making wise decisions when it comes to that sort of emotional manipulation.
That is not "a good thing".

My point there was that you answered samasaurus's question of "If someone is a fan of Tomorrowland, why should they not get to experience this map made in Minecraft" with the response "Nobody is saying someone cannot make a map of Tomorrowland in Minecraft."
That's either implying that the map will be made anyway, which I am disagreeing with, or a non-sequitur response.
It's not Mojang's problem
It's not a problem for Mojang, but it's this interference from them that has caused the problem for others, hence people are complaining.

My main argument would be that advertising in maps isn't any worse than advertising to children elsewhere, and in this case it produces good content that outweighs the disadvantages, but if you're saying that you see advertising to children anywhere as terrible, then we might have to agree to disagree on this point.
As your points mainly revolve around the manipulation of children to buy a product, what about maps that target an adult audience, which these new rules equally ban? Or maps that raise awareness for a good cause, rather than try to get people to buy a product?

I hate all advertising, so welcome any ban on advertising.
Or maps that raise awareness for a good cause, rather than try to get people to buy a product?
Don't care enough, personally. You can raise awareness without leeching off of Minecraft's popularity.
