Except this is exactly what the PC Master Race stands against - exclusives. The idea is that (aside from Mac+Linux, but those mainly b/c they're smaller platforms) everything should strive to be compatible with everything else. When right now it's just Oculus and HTC+Valve battling it out in the VR sphere, we need to keep exclusives to a minimum. Honestly, I hope that more companies get into the VR, CPU and GPU market - just look at how much competition there is among RAM, Cases, Monitors, etc. If you had that kind of competition with GPUs (and not EVGA v/s MSI, like NVIDIA v/s AMD, the designers) GPUs on scale of the 1080 and (hopefully) new polaris GPUs may have come out even 3 years ago.
