Videos and pictures of fish shouting, screaming, yelling, howling, bellowing and hollering, without the use of vocal chords. You probably get the picture. Today's is a bite-sized feature.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOO DAAAAAAAAAAMN OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO is but one example. Then we have eeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEK! GTFO! or even GYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH and perhaps a meeker eelo?.

You may wonder where all the vowels in caps come from. As befits the anthropomorphism subs, users are encouraged to vocalise the scream in their titles. Like HAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGKK or WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! and the more justified FFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!. After the majestical world of nature's food chain, perhaps you would enjoy a little chorus.. That's a cute one.

/u/racefan78: I wasn't around for the sub's creation, but hopefully I can provide some insight. To me, this sub really plays on a couple things. One is humans tendency to anthropomorphise animals. You see this in a lot of memes obviously. The second thing is the irony of a fish, which is usually a pretty quiet animal, screaming at the top of its lungs (gills?).

There's not really any wrong way to enjoy Screaming Fish. The thing is, with it being a small subreddit, there's not a huge amount of content. So if you like to binge you'll probably exhaust your supply pretty quickly!

Hmmm, so best is to subscribe and let the pouty little devils appear on your front page... If we really really had to define it, what would you say about the vowels?

Well, I think this is mostly a result of the fact that vowel sounds are the ones that are usually extended in the English language when you want to draw out a word. Also though, the mouth shape of a fish tends to look like it's annunciating a vowel sound when hanging open. Take a carp for instance. Their round mouth makes it look like they're OOOOOOHHing.
