A joke comic posted to r/FinalFantasy has led to drama when the OP failed to use spoiler tags despite the comic hinging on a very well-known plot point in Final Fantasy VII, a game that is over twenty years old.
User Pattywacks kicks off this popcorn festival by asking for spoiler tags and getting downvoted to oblivion for it, responding to those downvotes with righteous indignation and head-shaking disappointment. Annoyed fans respond by leaking more spoilers:
"Darth Vader is Luke's father"
"the titanic sinks"
"Bruce Willis is a ghost"
"Paul Walker wins the race."
"Hope we beat the Germans!"
Annoyed supporters of Pattywacks point to the sub's rules on spoilers and demand spoiler tags. The conversation then devolves as neither side can agree as to whether or not a plot point widely known both in and outside the community for a decades-old game can be considered a spoiler.
Mods eventually add spoiler tags to the post, to the annoyance of some, while others write at length about the virtues of spoiler tags using examples that are six months old, rather than 20+ years.
