Nothing says "I care about the suffering of animals" like putting an arrow through it's neck and bludgeoning it with a compound bow.
People have the right to hunt, and fair enough, but wouldn't NOT shooting the animal be the thing to do if you cared about them suffering? "I feel bad for raped women, so I try to get it over with as quickly as possible when I rape."

He's hunting for game, he's not a psychopath. Yeah, the goal is to kill the animal, but you don't want it to actually suffer. If you were being murdered, would you want the killer to cut you with a rusty knife over and over until you died or would you want a bullet to the brain? Either way, you're dead but in one scenario you didn't suffer. There's a major difference.

Look, I eat meat. So I kill out of need. Hunting is killing for sport. And, for me, this will always be strange. To seek out ending a life simply for enjoyment. Whether you choose to eat the meat doesn't change this fact. Almost no one in NA that hunts "needs" to.

No you don't, you could survive just fine without meat what so ever. Also it is likely that this bird, even with the arrow and all, had a better life that the last chicken you ate.
Killing and torturing is two different things, and if you are okay with eating meat you should not talk against hunting (as long as the prey is not endangered).

Killing to eat meat, and killing for pleasure are different things. If you hunt, the undeniable fact is, you take enjoyment in ending life. THIS is what is strange to me: enjoying killing. Seeking the act of killing out to pass the time. So I don't see me being a hypocrite thinking that eating is a good reason to take a life, but "fun" isn't.
And I get my meat from a free range, ethical meat farm. Are you saying a wild animals, fighting for food and evading predators (including you) has it better than these animals? Absolutely not.

As others have already suggested to you...people not only hunt for sport, but for a number of reasons. 1) Hunting prevents animals from becoming overpopulated. This is important because the animals aren't competing to find food. Also illnesses could spread more quickly when there's more animals in close quarters. This is also something people like to call "the circle of life" 2) For people who don't trust the meat industry or the chemical additives they may put in meat these days, hunting ensures that they are eating completely natural food. 3) Hunting is a way of life for many people and has been since, let's see...uhm...the dawn of man. How has it become completely immoral this generation? 4) Yes, it is done for sport. And why not? Studies have shown that many members of the animal kingdom hunt for sport. Why must the buck stop at humans, the top of the food chain?

You aren't some mongolian hunter on a plateau. You don't kill to survive. That you might eat some of your meat doesn't change this.
You hunt because you enjoy it. Therefore, you kill for pleasure. You can make any sort of argument against me "eating meat too" you want. But pretend I didn't eat meat. Then what? You still kill for fun.
I don't mind the downvotes. A lot of people hunt. It's popular. So a lot of people enjoy killing.

I never said I didn't enjoy hunting and you aren't going to make me feel bad about it. Your point seems to be we're all sociopaths who paint ourselves in animal blood and dance around. I also eat the fuckin animal which disproves your point that I'm just a sadist. This is attempting to bypass the crux of my argument. There is a huge distinction between begrudgingly taking an ax to a chicken to feed your family, and getting excited to do so and take every opportunity to wield the axe.
At the end of the day, you can't deny this one fact: if you hunt, you enjoy killing. You are going to to kill another life form for enjoyment. That is the issue I have. To take pleasure in killing is strange to me. Killing to eat, out of necessity, is a different thing all together.
Now, if we are talking about hunting as a less painful way than farming: it's not necessarily true. Take the money and time you spend hunting, and get your meat from a small, free range farm like this one. Where the animals are fed, cared for, and slaughtered humanely. So if you want to compare "which is best", I would think a farm animal at this farm has a better life than a wild animal.
And again, they aren't killed for fun.

Thats an over-generalisation. I grew up on a farm and we hunted roos because if we didnt, they would ruin the crops and take food away from our livestock (even worse, there was a massive drought at the time).
I would think a farm animal at this farm has a better life than a wild animal.
That's a subjective opinion. I would much rather be one of the roos we used to hunt than one of the cattle we (or that farm you linked) raised.
How many people in real life do you know that hunt? It sounds like you lack insight into a hunters perspective.

I didn't say anything about harm. Killing is due to harm, but not necessarily suffering. Whether hunting for sport or for meat, a decent hunter knows not to let an animal suffer because it's cruel. A quick death is the best way for something or someone to go. An instantaneous death causes no suffering from pain...

I didn't compare hunting to rape... at all. Using the holocaust as an example, for example, doesn't mean I am comparing something to the holocaust.
You use a "kind" of statement to make a point, even though they may vary in "degree" greatly.
In this case, I said it was weird to say you care about the suffering of an animal you are shooting and killing. Just as it would be strange for a rapist to concern themselves about how much suffering a victim suffers. It's comparing the act of mitigating pain of something you intend to harm. I, in no way, compared rape and hunting.
