Wow... Looks like someone took my BTCalc spreadsheet and ran with it :) nice to see

Can you link to it? It looked pretty handy!

Nice! Does it take the current price automatically?

In Google spreadsheets you can get the current BTC/USD price like this (similar for other currencies):

=GOOGLEFINANCE("CURRENCY:BTCUSD")

The original used vba to pull it from bitcoinity and updated the price as requested by the user or on a specified time interval. It also had price alerts and it would send a text message if the price hit the high or low a user specified. You had to keep the spreadsheet open and have outlook setup to have that function work.

This is way better than my scratches on concrete wall.

Don't remember the original author but someone shared it here on reddit and i used it (made some changes though).

so u have 43 btc?

47.46835443 BTC to be exact.

$N x 0.0002 = $5.16
$N = 5.16 / 0.0002
$N = $25,800
B = 25800 / 543.52 = 47.46835443

[–]Lixen [

It's more likely that the 0.02% is rounded down value not showing trailing numbers.

The simplest is:

N x (Profit per bitcoin) = $5.16
N x ($543.64 - $543.52) = $5.16
N = $5.16 / $0.12
N = 43

Calculating the ROI with this value yields:

$5.16 / (43 x $543.52) = 0.022078% ≈ 0.02%

Which confirms the assumption that the 0.02 is probably rounded down. This indicates that 43 bitcoins is more likely than 47.46 bitcoins.

as the 0.02% could come from any number between 0.015% and 0.025% could the total bitcoins not be anywhere between ~38 btc and ~63.3btc

[–]Lixen [

Correct, that's all we can say with certainty from the information we have.

With high likelihood, though, we can assume it's 43 btc, due to the order of the values in the spreadsheet (values to the right generally use those to the left in their formulas due to the way we populate cells from left to right).

So ignoring the percentage, we can make the calculation I did above to come to this number of 43 btc.

I think he has 64.5?

Whoever is closest gets a prize?

EDIT: I'm drunk, you're right :)

Haha, bingo I'd say.

 5.16/(543.64-543.52) = 43

The answer to the universe.

Dude buys all the way up then stops. lol

Didn't stop buying. This is not the entire sheet.. i kept buying when it dropped to 250's and thats when i stopped.

I took over the buying baton for him apparently after that, as I started in after the fall started excluding a very very small amount.

Here is the spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1j6ZvKpXK6GPssFCbOt0a5nZpU1g3IT1VrlykWb_9vDo

I am not the original author but i did make some changes. Thanks to the author for sharing it.

What changes did you make to the spreadsheet?

Can anyone help me change this sheet to use euros instead of dollars? I am useless with spreadsheet :(

Highlight the "Current USD/BTC" value field i.e. D5 (column D, row 5) and in the fx formula at the top change it to:

 =ROUND(GoogleFinance("CURRENCY:BTCEUR"), 2)

Uh... how does that ROI work? Shouldn't it simply be "=g5/e5"?

Congratulations on hodling and toughing it out!

You forgot that if you stored that USD on a bank you would have received interest.

Still 1% to go.

More appropriately, S&P 500 went up ~10% in that time, so 9.98% to go. :)

yes please give us spreadsheet with just the formulas hnnnnnng <3

Minus inflation, opportunity cost (putting money elsewhere), and your time.. 😜

[–]OracleSevenredditor for 3 months [

Time is money, but if he used his leisure time to do this and enjoyed it, then there should be no $ computation for the time spent/lost.

all it takes is patience

two things - this is other :)

How do you determine the value of opportunity cost after the fact?

its easier after the fact. Just look at what the returns have been in other investments, bonds, stocks, etc

Congrats! spreadsheet link please :)

[–]heyfuckredditredditor for 4 days [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

This tells me we might see some resistance as a result of long term holders waiting for the first chance to get out.

[–]OracleSevenredditor for 3 months [

Wow...must not have been a very fun two years for you. Did you buy any more after Dec 2013 or did you give up?

But obviously would have been some awesome trading if you sold all of it when it started to drop from its high. I can't say I agree on the strategy to buy at $1083 and hold down to $171. I would have taken a loss long, long before then and probably tried to buy back lower. But I make plenty of trading mistakes, some of which you probably don't. Everyone has their weaknesses, except the awesome traders who are millionaires.

Anyway if you haven't bought any since 2013, you aren't a trader anyway. I know it is mental and mathmatical gymnastics, but nice to see that green in the profit column for sure, so congrats.

Not the entire sheet. my last buy order was on Jan 26, 2015 at $292. Long term HODLer..

Quick, order some lambo tyres before they are all gone! ;-)

I love this excel spreadsheet. Do you think you can PM me a template?

Fun fact, this is about the same amount of time between June 2011 crash and March 2013 surpassing previous high

[–]omnifecintredditor for 1 month [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

Can you pm a template of this spreadsheet

Time value of money(compound interest) makes the profit target much higher than your original investment, hopefully you will hold for the long term as I suspect Bitcoin will keep going up

You shouldn't use blur to hide sensitive information. It can be undone (to some extent). Congratulations on holding though.

Holy shit you would have saved a bomb if you didn't go via Virwox.
