This is the reply I got earlier:

It's worth noting that in addition to continuing to post meta comments in the megas, you also apparently messaged about your ban to people who themselves decided to start spamming the megathread. I'm not saying you're responsible for the actions of others, but I am saying: I appreciate your contributions to the community, when you are contributing to the community. It is not beneficial to anyone to have people intentionally publicly drawing all of the conversations off track, and I wish that you'd continued to discuss the actual issues of politics instead of making all of those threads be about /r/politics. The meta thread is next week.

This happened about 5 minutes after the ban because someone PM'd me asking where a comment of mine was that they were trying to reply to. I responded to the PM saying I was permanently banned. Since that first response, I have told individuals not to mod message on my behalf - and sent proof of this to the mods.

Later on though I was sent this:

What you do with your ban is your choice. However, if it results in even further idiotic modmail spams, it will likely reflect negatively on all involved.

This is getting pretty ridiculous since people that seem to be associated with you send us modmails about how they can't see the megathread after reporting the damn thing. Please tell your friends that if they can't see the megathread, it's probably because they reported it. CSS wizardry, fun stuff.

My hope is that they don't continue to factor it in, but I would rather be cautious. I explicitly asked how they wanted me to proceed - which is the reply I got above.

I appreciate your intentions but I believe the mods could be factoring in the actions of others as it relates to my ban. I was told there might be a meta thread next week where this might be more appropriate, though I'm not sure if the mods will allow discussion of this there either.

Oh, I have more than one :P

Sidenote, I've never really talked about my username. I find it hilarious as it was intended as a throwaway years ago to post on the /r/guns subreddit. I lurked for years and finally started posting about a year ago. I love that people can't tell if I am some crazy republican / libertarian or liberal. At times I think I am all three.

Thanks. Me to, was told conflicting info about the appeal process for a permanent ban in my situation and haven't heard back.

I have been reading through the latest JW depositions and will have some thoughts on that tomorrow or Saturday. Also Jason Leopold just got a response in regards to his latest FOIA request, and the DOJ responded similarly that they judge has seen proper evidence to warrant the request being denied on the basis of law enforcement proceedings.

Sadly, I have had this account for 5 years. In the course of about sixth months I started posting and received a lot of positive feedback.

One minor slip up, and I am permanently banned.

You have been banned for ignoring a modmail warning. You were specifically asked to stop spamming the megathreads with off topic discussion, and you persisted.

I received this warning either as I was typing the comment that got me permanently banned, or a few minutes before hand. As some can expect, like mods, I get a lot of username mentions and personal messages. I have many windows open, and I apologized immediately for not heeding this warning.

Thanks. I have gotten about a dozen of these messages in the last 10 minutes.

I am not sure if me posting any of the back and forth I had at this point would be a good idea. But I made it pretty clear that this was a mistake that I was sorry for, as I did not know this subject was a permanently bannable offense. I post quite often, this is the first 'punishment' I have ever received.

It is sad to see that it was a permanent ban.

Edit: just to be double clear. Please do not message the mods or do anything on my behalf to get yourself banned or punished. The mods and I are currently communicating privately. The purpose of this post is not to encourage anyone, rather to consolidate so I don't have to pm individuals.

I guess the cat is out of the bag. I have asked the mods if I am even allowed to talk about it, and they said:

What you do with your ban is your choice. However, if it results in even further idiotic modmail spams, it will likely reflect negatively on all involved.

So please, do not modmail them. I have asked several to not do so.

I have been permanently banned for discussing megathreads, in the megathread. As did many others discuss it, though I think I am the only one who was permanently banned.

I was told this was off topic in a private mod message relating to a deleted comment in a different thread minutes beforehand. At that same time, I was responding to a mod who had posted in the megathread, about the same topic. That post is what got me permanently banned.

This was that post:

I've either been shadowbanned or they are going through and deleting my posts without notice. Hopefully, the latter. If I am breaking a subreddit rule by discussing megathreads, please show me where that is written.

EDIT: Just to be clear. Me posting here is not an accusation that the mods banned me for being shills or anything like that. I was trying to personally message those that were posting about this but got overrun, thus this post.

Also I am supposed to tell you guys this apparently though I do not associate with anyone on reddit:

Please tell your friends that if they can't see the megathread, it's probably because they reported it. CSS wizardry, fun stuff.

I am hoping for some sort of appeal process.

You are now forcing users to discuss topics on hidden posts? Is this for real?

How is this not fundamentally breaking this subreddit?

You are creating a subreddit within a subreddit - and enforcing users to discuss articles on hidden posts. Wow.

politics 内の lotrouble によるリンク Trump and Sanders Debate Megathread

[–]NebraskaGunOwner 15ポイント16ポイント  (0子コメント)

  • How many days will the megathread last?

  • Who decides if a topic is related to the megathread or not?

  • Who decides when a topic crosses the threshold of a megathread or is allowed to be a standalone article?

  • How will a bot be able to determine this any better than a mod?

  • What is the specific forum in which you are recieving the feedback that motivates this. It appears that on the day 2 thread, the 'overwhelming' majority users of this subreddit disagree.

So you are saying that no new posts on this matter are being deleted and regulated to a megathread?

Hey guys, "many people" asked for this so they decided to fundamentally change how reddit works. They received "dozens" of comments asking to remove self-post Saturdays, so they did. It seems there is this wonderful forum where users can provide feedback, but I just can't seem to locate it.

politics 内の lotrouble によるリンク Trump and Sanders Debate Megathread

And again, "many people" - what is that?

Look at the latest megathread, "many people" are saying this is a horrible idea and you a breaking this subreddit.

And they switched it back to (new) I guess they didn't like seeing my post at the top. Again.

And thus, any new information, new content, gets regulated to a megathread.

And with the latest megathread, my point is proven. This isn't about stopping yesterday's articles from appearing again. It's about censoring topics.

[–]NebraskaGunOwner 647ポイント648ポイント  (0子コメント)

I said it before and I will say it again. The end result of megathreads is censorship whether you intend it or not.

From this thread you are basing this off of a dozen messages of feedback.

Yet, this entire process is anything but transparent. You removed self-post Saturdays because you received "feedback" that some didn't like it.

Here is some feedback: https://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/4l5c3p/trump_and_sanders_debate_megathread/d3kejk3

No one doubts the validity of a megathread to handle the 50 articles that are reporting literally the same thing. What you are doing now is turning megathreads into a trashcan to handle topics you deem aren't worthy of their own post. Whatever political slant users have, this should trouble you. Mods shouldn't be the gatekeepers. You are fundamentally changing how reddit functions and is intended. You are becoming the story.

[–]NebraskaGunOwner 10ポイント11ポイント  (0子コメント)

Consider: You are pretty much asking us to ignore one group of people who modmail, post in the meta threads, and upvote the opinions they like, in favor of a different group of people who do those same things.

I'm not asking you to ignore anyone. I'm asking you to open up the process. You aren't the first mod to say that feedback has influenced your decisions, yet, there is literally zero transparency on this feedback. It's hidden under vague statements like 'overwhelmingly' or 'dozens'.

How about you implement something like a Net Promoter Score to determine this.

Here's one metric: https://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/4l5c3p/trump_and_sanders_debate_megathread/d3kejk3

500 upvotes and a gild at the time of writing this - many of this after a mod switched this mega thread to (new).

I haven't read all of today's articles but what I have mostly seen is just people attempting to post yesterday's articles again today.

This is factually incorrect, and if you read any of my comments on this thread, that is all I am speaking to. The initial mega thread has been valid. All of the discussion today has been how to continue it into today's articles.

politics 内の lotrouble によるリンク Trump and Sanders Debate Megathread

[–]NebraskaGunOwner 10ポイント11ポイント  (0子コメント)

On a single day where there is a topic dominating the front page, we might get a few dozen modmails complaining about it

Here is the fundamental problem with this argument. You are allowing a few dozen messages to influence the discussion that thousands of people are having.

The validity of the megathread yesterday is not being questioned. It was 50 articles reporting on the exact same information.

You now have today, articles with new information, articles with new insight, articles with interesting subjects commenting on this information all being deleted. You might see that as all relating to the same 'topic' and therefore isn't worthy of existing on it's own, but many people, much more than 'a few dozen' don't see it that way.

I said even in the May meta thread, that the mods have an impossible job. Which makes these drastic actions you have taken over the last month seem to be counter productive to your stated goals as you are now taking on the role as gatekeepers for information.

I am not in their heads. I can only judge their actions. Their actions are in direct opposition to their stated goals.

politics 内の lotrouble によるリンク Trump and Sanders Debate Megathread

[–]NebraskaGunOwner 2ポイント3ポイント  (0子コメント)

At the time of the mega's creation, there were 17 posts on this topic in the top 100, many in the top 25. Almost all of those were articles from yesterday resubmitted today.

Why are new posts, containing new information, being deleted? I have said this multiple times. I don't think anyone disagrees with the megathread existing in the first place when 50 outlets were reporting on the same news.

However, now you are taking the stance that it is the subject material, not the content, that determines if it belongs in a mega thread.

Re-posts should be deleted. Re-hosted content should be deleted.
