UJ: I don't think that video games or action movies cause violence. However, I do think that the argument could be made that they can desensitize players and viewers to violence; desensitization has societal repercussions as to how people accept varying levels of violence happening around them. Media certainly shapes the minds its consumers.

honestly i am not sure how much of that is true though. I mean i think most people would probably know the difference between fictional violence and real life violence. There is a level of difference between say seeing Bruce Wilis in a movie blasting some bady guy with a shotgun, then witnessing the real thing.

Plus while violent games are going up in sales, violence in general is going down so i think there a huge flaw. If people are desenitized to violence, surely there would be more violence.

Seeing violent images, real or not, affects the viewer. No one makes a conscious decision about how what they're seeing affects them.
