Yeah that's odd. Even the transgender subreddit is open to discussion on this.

I've had discussions with real transgenders and they conceded that it was a mental disorder, but that they as a person were not worth any less than anyone else because of that. I have family who are transgender with history of mental illness. Transgender is heavily linked with mental disorders.

This is particularly upsetting for someone in the sciences like myself. This is clearly an issue worth researching in the scientific community. The mods at r/science shouldn't have an official stance on anything. They should objectively examine the data from research and develop theories that explain the patterns observed from said studies. Saying "our official stance" isn't scientific at all. It's completely political, and that type of thinking has no place in anything that brands itself as science.
