I'm not convinced.

So far he hasn't bought any players, we've won zero games so far and haven't scored any goals!

This is worse than the Van Gaal era.

I agree, although you have to admit the football has been more exciting

No back passes is a huge positive.

Same number of shots on goal as well.

But lower number of own goals ..... for and against us.

[–]Polar_Bear_CuddlesJose 18ポイント19ポイント  (0子コメント)

We have the best defence in the league though, 0 goals conceded.

also Arsenal are on top of the league ffs Jose what are you doing!

[–]MatthewXuI saw the white Pele 4

AFC Bournemouth though

Has even won the league yet. How long before we start asking questions about his future?

Let's see how things go, but I really hope he does. Fergie 2.0? A man can dream...

I sure hope so. Looking at it as objectively as I can: there is no manager Jose admires and holds in such regard as SAF. Would he want to emulate his success? Would he want to surpass his success? My guess would be yes. Jose is the kind of character where he'll want to be the best at whatever he does, and I'd bet he'd want to be known as the best Manchester United manager in our history too - his ego is big enough to think he can do it (and I hope he can).

There is a difference between what a man wants, and what he does. Jose to me seems more like a person who gets bored after doing the same job after a short period of time. Then he starts finding conspiracies, where none exist, losing his focus, and starting on a downward spiral. I am hoping he can prove me wrong this time, though.

Thats what happens when you're stuck at a job/in a place that you really dont want to be, and your heart just isnt in it. Your heart and mind aren't totally committed because you're looking for a step up to a better job. Its clear that Mou has wanted this job for a while now. With that being the case, where else does he have to go from here that would be considered a better job. Maybe Barça? But in all honesty the only thing i could ever see him willingly leave for is to manage a national team. He's where he wants to be and i'm optimistic that it will be for a good long while.

I agree with you to an extent. But I believe there are people who can even get bored of a perfect job. What you believe to be perfect right now, is not necessarily perfect 2-3 years down the line. I can say that such people exist, because I am one of them.

That being said, I hope your optimism proves to be correct. I had been strongly against this appointment till it was inevitable. But now I am fully behind Mou, coz I believe the current manager deserves this. I really hope he brings us all the success that we deserve.

Cheers. He're's to hoping that the manager remains content with a great opportunity and wont be seeking satisfaction elsewhere anytime in the next decade!

There's also the fact that, as successful as Jose has been he hasn't had continued success at one club over a lengthy period of time so we don't even know if he can emulate his success let alone whether he wants to. It's much more difficult to break apart a winning side & rebuild it every few years.

UNLEASH THE JOSE STATUE WITH A MASSIVE BONER.

Won't be Fergie 2.0, he's mentioned several times in the past that he wants to manage the Portuguese national team before he retires. Still, I hope it's longer than the usual 3 years with Mourinho.

one season at a time, he's here now

[–]Prof_DumbbelldoreRuud 22ポイント23ポイント  (7子コメント)

I reckon there were fans at all of his previous clubs that thought this

I'm pretty sure he said he wanted to build a dynasty with Chelsea so he at least wanted to stay there for an extended period. Only the horrible form prevented that. I think at all other clubs he went to before Chelsea were only temporary stays in his mind. Hopefully he plans on staying with us for a while

No one will build a dynasty at Chelsea while Abramovich is there.

TBH the players are as much a problem.

Only the horrible form and the disgrace that was the way treated his medical staff. I wouldn't want him long term if he were to pull stuff like that.

This >Only the horrible form and the disgrace that was the way treated his medical staff. I wouldn't want him long term if he were to pull stuff like that.

Precisely my opinion. I don't doubt amazing things the first year, but people get tired of his shit. Things may be destroyed if United get anywhere near as close to relegation as Chelsea did.

Only the horrible form prevented that

The horrible form was because of him though

[–]House_Of_LannisterRIP 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

SAF was still knocking about at that time though. He was just doing placements around Europe to kill the time.

Here's the thing.

Having jumped around a bit professionally speaking over the past 20 years, in spite of having found places I really loved - I still have always wanted that "one place to call home."

It's highly likely Mourinho has similar feelings.

Could we be the one club that captures his interest completely and allows him to prove to everyone that he can build and maintain a dynasty?

Absolutely. The way he has always looked up to SAF is indicative of that. The one thing he has never proven before is that he can stay somewhere and maintain things beyond a few years.

I think he really wants to do that.

That being said, that's complete optimism. It's just as likely that he's getting sacked in the morning ;)

Found Mourinho's reddit account.

Heh - life would be interesting if that were true...

Post history disparity confirmed.

[–]BurfobinoDaily Sexy Blind 15

Part of me thinks that he knows this is the pinnacle of his career. This is where he himself can become a legend in his own right. This is his moment to build a legacy for himself.

Another part of me thinks he doesn't know how to do this without imploding. There lingers a paranoia in that man, perhaps very well warranted, that can turn everything he cares about against him. If he can overcome this and keep his hunger, if he can dedicate himself to the actual football and let his respect for this 'gigantic' club guide his integrity, he very well overcome his previous antics.

This is his moment to redeem himself, for his underdog mentality and the chaos left behind at Chelsea. This is the moment for him to trust his qualities and mould our squad into a powerhouse of Europe. This is his chance to find the glory his thirsty soul longs for.

yes, it's the perfect redemption job. It's just so funny how my mates are downplaying his appointment. When in reality they are scared shit

He'll definitely get a better treatment than in Chelsea/Madrid. It's almost like a love story.

There is no other club to aspire to. He's arrived where he wanted to be. He's at a club that has a framework to support, so if he continues with the success he's had then there will be no reason to suggest he'll get sacked let alone leave.

I hope that he does well for yearss to come- and that the club, players and him gel into a proper unit. But being the Manchester United manager is hell of a demanding job - especially demanding from the supporters who always expect nothing but the best - seeing how cut-throat the fans have been to the 2 last managers for poor performance - i'm dreading the time when we go through a bad patch.

Good luck Jose.

I hope so. This reminds me of Alabama (American) football. When they hired Nick Saban, no one argued that he wasn't the best, but everyone said he would only be there a year or two. He had the same resume, take a job, win, move on. He was also coming off his first career failure, with the Dolphins. This failure made him take stock of his process and mellowed him out a bit. Nick Saban is starting his tenth year at Alabama and in the process has won four National Championships. He has taken Alabama to a level that has never been seen before. I think Jose will do the same.

As an LSU fan i'd appreciate it if you don't bring up he who will not be named again in this sub again lol

I think this captures it: https://twitter.com/TheM_L_G/status/735885033714548737

"Mourinho isnt gonna be United's long term answer. Thats only bad if you think managers are where you should look for long term answers."

He is the best manager for this point in time. I am excited to no end. If we support him, then there is every reason to think he could see out his contract and achieve amazing things. But, at the end of the day, the issue isn't whether he stays for that long, it's whether we sort our shit out at a boardroom/organisational level and commit to being the club we should be.

Yet again fans telling themselves what they want to believe.

Chelsea fans were saying the exact same thing when he joined them the second time.

I'd be happy with 3 years and a league title and a cup and top 3 every other year.

The long term manager era is gone. Accept it.

[–]House_Of_LannisterRIP -1ポイント0ポイント  (11子コメント)

Unless you can see into the future, you're talking shit.

Accept that there is a possibility, a plausible one with some strong arguments that he could stay here longer than intended.

[–]mink_manMourinho 1ポイント2ポイント  (3子コメント)

There is a much stronger possibility that he does not stay past 4 years.

[–]House_Of_LannisterRIP -2ポイント-1ポイント  (2子コメント)

Well, Firstly, you just said it - a possibility.

So you telling everyone in this sub that they are silly for having that opinion when there is a chance (not unlikely) he could stay he longer than intended is silly itself.

Secondly, why do you feel so adamant that he'll only be here for 3 years? When there is so much potential for a longer term plan?

Thirdly, what would he do after 3 years? Especially if he brings a lot of success in that time? I doubt that he would leave if he wins lots here.

[–]mink_manMourinho 2ポイント3ポイント  (1子コメント)

Same things were said in 2013 when he rejoined Chelsea.

[–]House_Of_LannisterRIP -3ポイント-2ポイント  (0子コメント)

So? 3 years ago you wouldn't have believed Mourinho would be our manager.

Today he is.

This is football and anything can happen.

[–]MrD3athRyan Fucking Giggs 1

Where else is there to go? Bayern - possibly, PSG - not much of a challenge - China - possibly - USA - i doubt it.

Im biased, but i tdont think there is anywhere else for him to go after us that isnt a step down.

It's not about him wanting to leave.

It's about what happens when he falls out with everyone again and gets sacked.

3 year contract would see him here to 2019. I'd say most of us would be expecting that as a minimum. 2020 is hardly out of the question.

On a side note, I'm getting old...

He could love everything about the place and want to stay here until the end of time but let's see how he gets the team performing first? I think that'll dictate the length his tenure more than any feelings that he might have

Today I feel like he'll be here forever, let's let him work, get us back to the top and take it from there.

[–]MrD3athRyan Fucking Giggs 0

Y'all some hopeful mofos

I think if it were his choice he would've never left Chelsea if Abramovich wasn't such a cockboy....except for United seeing his appreciation of Fergie and the history, something that didn't exist at Chelsea before him.

[–]OrckillaMata!

53 now.

That gives him 15 years minimum!

I think Jose loves and appreciates our club a lot. He's made no secret about that. I think he has tremendous respect for Sir Alex and the clubs history and I hope he's planning on a long term stay. He's been to other big clubs and now i think he wants to put down roots. At least I hope so....

He was prepared to stay at Chelsea for longer. Didn't he sign a 3 year extension?

I feel he will, it is the perfect club for him. I remember when Eric Cantona signed the media claimed he wouldn't last but Manchester United was the perfect club for him and Sir Alex was the perfect manager, I believe this is the same chemistry.

[–]MullerReusIt's hard to believe it's not Scholes! 0

I know I'm 12 years late for this but I'm looking at his career like that of Cloughs, he was very outspoken at Derby but after he failed at Leeds and went to Forest he became more quiet, kept his head down and stayed at Forest for 17 years, maybe the last stint at Chelsea will be like this for Mourinho, where United will be his Forest, let's hope it doesn't end like it did for Clough at Forest though.

Wow 4 years... Such a lengthy period!

Do I want him to, yes.

Do I expect him to, no.

Nothing in his past career tells me he can do it in the long term, I hope he proves me wrong.

Lol based on exactly what?, he's never lasted more than 3 years anywhere, this fucking Jose circle jerk is getting ridiculous.

[–]House_Of_LannisterRIP 0ポイント1ポイント  (6子コメント)

Looking at it in this way - He's been given basically the perfect structure to build on. Young players (young as 18), a solid defense, great goalkeeper, lots of money, fans that will love him, a supporting hierarchy with a strong bond in SAF, A second tier trophy in europe to get the ball running in his first season...

It's worked out pretty well for him and I do believe this is a much different situation to any he's faced before.

He wanted to build a dynasty at Chelsea and they were impatient and threw it back in his face.

He could build his legacy here and it would be quite fitting.

He wanted to build a dynasty at Chelsea and they were impatient and threw it back in his face.

No they didn't. He acted like a massive bellend and got deservedly sacked.

got deservedly sacked

Debateable. In his defence, he had just won the league.

I'm not saying a large portion of our fans wouldn't be calling for his head if it were United. Although, I do think he would have had more leeway.

It's not debatable.

He was bordering on relegation and had fallen out with the entire squad.

He had to go.

He was bordering on relegation

Come on. It wasn't as if he was bordering on relegation with 3 games remaining. We all know Chelsea wouldn't have been relegated under Mourinho.

But they probably would have finished lower than the 10th that they did with Guus

A lot of people wanted Fergie gone in 2005 for way less than this and he was Fergie. Whoever thinks we wouldn't have wanted Jose gone if he put us near relegation while blaming doctors and falling out with the squad... is having a laugh, rubbish

[–]YellowMoonFlashBlind, not deaf -1

I think he has a good base set down by LvG to succeed for a long period of time. The only question is if he can keep all the young players and use/develop them properly.

He has the positive side that most players want to work under him, since he is a big shot with allot of succes. On the other side, some players might have more focus on other clubs that ''They always dreamed about playing with'' So hope we can keep them here..

I think the coming 2 years will tell us how and what. I also think his first year HAS to be good if he gets another 1-2 good transfers. There is allot of potential on this team... If he doesn't make top 4, it will show how competitive the BPL really is and that people shouldn't give maanger so much shit.

Oh and he has a set of fresh players, all gonna be injury free. If they stay like that the entire season (reasonably injury free) it already will make his first year allot easier. The amount of injured players we had the past 2 year was crazy...

Lets not get overly excited and have mega expectations. We might get dissapointed really easy, and the players AGAIn will have to go through all the negativity. Not to mention the Manager also get pressured.

not convinced, I think he's more a Paisley than a Shankly.
