DB:3.66:Setting Up Win 7 Shutdown By Shortcut Keys j3

Are there shortcut keys fopr looging off, hibernation, shutdown etc.?
I've seen various shortcuts, such as
    %SystemRoot%\System32\shutdown.exe /h
to go into hbernation, but they don't seem to work.
My computer seems to go there, but then turns back on.
running powercfg a in a command window says that S1 and S3 are available, but the S2 is not.
How do I find where I set up these shortcuts?

DB:2.82:How Do You Get Custom Shortcut Keys To Continue To Work After You Re-Login To Windows 7 as

The title says it all: How do you get custom Shortcut Keys to continue to work after you re-login to Windows 7?

I can easily assign a shortcut key combination to any shortcut by right clicking on it, selecting Properties, and then typing a key into the "Shortcut Key" field, which automatically appends CTRL + ALT + to the front of it.

After making a new one of these and then trying it, it works great. But if I log out and log back in (or restart, or shutdown and restart, etc.) this Shortcut Key gets ignored and no longer works. The assignment is still there in the properties of the icon
in question, but it simply doesn't get paid attention when the key combination is pressed.

I loved being able to make dozens of shortcuts to different folders in Explorer, or URL shortcuts, or in some cases, applications themselves, and I'd love to get this functionality back. And while I do leave my system up and running just about all of the time,
I certainly don't want to go and have to remake all of my shortcuts every time I need to reboot for this or that Windows Update.

DB:2.82:How Do You Get Custom Shortcut Keys To Continue To Work After You Re-Login To Windows 7 as

Though this goes back to 3 years ago, but it might happen for others too.

I did the built-in admin. account mentioned here, did not work for me.

    My case:
    - Win. 7 pro.
    - suddenly I found that the 'custom' shortcut keys where not working (in startup menu).
    - Only those that I have assigned myself w/ Alt.+Ctrl.+'a letter' did not work, the windows shortcut keys like Ctrl.+C .... were OK.
    - If I cleared the key-- pressed OK -- thenreassigned it again, it worked, but again stopped after reboot.

What solved mine: I did a "diagnostic startup" surprisingly found that the keys worked!! So then I did a "normal startup" to loadeverything, after thatI changed the startup as I wanted it to be.

So seems that a service or something was not loading caused the problem.
    Hope this can help others!

Application shortcuts should be on desktop or start menu only for the keyto work!If you remove the shortcut w/ key from both of those locations, the key does not work!

    The startup folder is C:/users/'a name'/app. data/roaming/Microsoft/windows/start menu/programs

My shortcut keys quit working on my custom shortcuts I have created. I created the shortcuts andtheshortcutitselfstill works when you double click it but the key combo I input for the shortcut key quits working after I reboot. Here's what I have done so far to help you guys narrow down what might cause this:1) tried a clean boot state by using msconfig and unchecked load startup items - this still returned the same result.2) I went to my office computer which I just upgraded to Win 7 also and it has the exact same issue3) I created a new user account and they work perfect on the new user account with all of the startup items loadedI was just thinking of moving my user files over to the new account and deleting the old one butI sure would like to be able to narrow down the issue. Any thoughts on this?

I should comment that the shortcut hotkeys don't work unless windows can recognize them on boot up. Ihad to leavethem on my desktopfor them tocontinue to work. I read another forum where a guy created a folder in the
start menu userfolder\appdata\roaming\microsoft\start menu\_hotkeys The computer will now read and recognize the hotkeys without having to keep them on the desktop.

In a windows host, I had to edit the resources of the .exe file.

Please help. I keep hitting these keys and cursing in frustration and the members of my office suite are worried.

I found a line in the preferences file in the same directory:pref.hotkey.control = "true" -- does this setting have anything to do with this?

Well, I searched the archive and found the answer:

"For linux/gnome, the solution turned out actually pretty easy: Gnome allows you to redefine any keyboard short cut by simply selecting a menu item and hitting some character combination (to define/redefine it) or backspace (to delete it)!"

    "In gconf-editor tick the key:/desktop/gnome/interface/can_change_accels

This turns on the editable menus. Hover over a menu item and press the new keyboard shortcut to assign it. Then untick the above item again in gconf-editor so that you don't accidentally change any more menu shortcuts."

    Tested and working.

Right click on the shortcut and select Rename. Then edit the name of the shortcut to suit your fancy.

I have confirmed that the same shortcut keys transmit to the remote Win 7 PC when connected via Chrome browser on Windows. I have also confirmed that both the Chrome OS plug-in and the Chrome Browser plug-in are using the same settings.

Has Windows 8 locked up Program Files in a way that Win 7 didn't? I have a script that uses Remove-Item to delete files and folders fromC:\Program Files and it works fine in Win 7 but not in Win 8.1. Both users are local admins, execution policy is
Unrestricted and AUC is minimal on both machines. Currently the script is not signed, but ultimately it will be and RemoteSigned will be the policy, if that has any impact. I hope not because it would make development a pain.
Anyway, hoping for some insights. I would guess 99% of my users are not going to Win 8 in any flavor for at least another year or more, likely not till they can go to 9, but I would like to support the new Vista if possible. ;)
EDIT: on a possibly related note, is there anything that needs to be handled in script when launching with elevated privileges via a shortcut? The shortcut passes arguments to the script, so I need that procedure. And when I launch the shortcut with Run
as Administrator I get a flash of error red text and the console is gone. Which is odd because the shortcut uses the-noexit flag.
And lastly, the other way the scripts are launched is with SCCM. I assume if the only way to get things to work in Win 8 and above is elevated privileges, there is a way to push an elevated script in SCCM?
EDIT 2: Seems I have the same problem with deleting reg keys from HKLM. Code worked fine in Win 7, fails with permission errors in Win 8.1. Fun.

    DB:2.58:"Vmcontrol Error -7: Timeout" On Shutdown 81

    hi,

at first, my english is not the best, but i try to explain my problem -:)

i have a problem with script shutdown of a win-xp-pro:

    host: suse-10.2 + vmwareserver

guest: win-xp prof. incl. vmware tools (works as a file-server/mail-server/mssql-server/etc.)

i want to backup the win-xp guest every night.

so i has written a linux shell script for the linux cron.

the shutdown command part in this script is:

    /usr/bin/vmware-cmd "/Virtual_Machines/Windows XP Pro/Windows XP Professional.vmx" stop

when i start the win-xp guest with the vmware-server-console and login into the win-xp system (and don't logout when i close the console), the shutdown in the night is ok.

but when i start the guest without login (which is normal for a server), the shutdown in the night hangs up with the error: "VMControl error -7: Timeout" !? when i now connect this guest with the vmware-server-console and click in the window, the guest continue the shutdown.

does someone have an idea what the problem is?

    thanks, alex

hi is there any other way to disabled the shortcut keys in oracle forms 10g during runtime? i dont want to use this keys..i use my triggers of code in a commnand button...i know its possible by Putting A Null code in every key event. e.g Delete Record ( CTRL + UP) it will ignore the trigger...all i want is to disable all keys//

The standard way in forms is the other way round. You put your logic in the triggers, then just execute that triggers come the command buttons. e.g. put the exeute-query-logic in the KEY-EXEQRY-trigger, if you have a button to execute a query, put
    DO_KEY('EXECUTE_QUERY');

Today I was virtualizing one application called Key File. This application was virtualized on windows xp 32b and virtualized runs on windows 7 64b.

This application creates shortcut on desktop. Problem is that this shortcut in not normal shortcut on desktop, but it is created as Namespace on desktop (created in registry keys for Explorer). It is special shortcut on desktop as Internet Explorer's Namespace shortcut on desktop. I was not able to create this Namespace shortcut by either registering entrypoints or installation MSI.

    My questions are:
why thinapp havent created special Namespace shortcut? Is there support for Namespace shortcuts?

    Thank you in advance,

I don't have package.ini neither. I was in hury to make it work, but I will be at customer site after Christmas so I will get it.

No, there is no desktop shortcut reference in Package.ini. Namespace shortcut is in registry files, but not in Package.ini.

Also, it's only an actual shortcut icon (*.LNK file) that has the option to set that. Look for the small arrow on the icon. A shortcut to an EXE file, for example, is not going to have the key combo option.

DB:2.55:Win 7 Keeps Shutting Down When Working With Excel Or Word 2010 jm

    Hi Marvin,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community!

From your issue description I understand that you are facing issue with automatic shutdown in Windows 7 computer. Please let me know if I have misunderstood the issue.

    1. Have you set any power plan on the computer?

    2. Does the issue occur only while working with excel or word 2010?

    3. Have you made any changes on the computer prior to the issue?

We got some troubleshooting methods in order to resolve the issue:

Method 1: I would suggest you to disable Automatic Restart on System Failure and check for error messages. Post back with the exact error message so that we can help you better.

Steps to Disable Automatic Restart on System Failure:

    a. Restart your computer and start pressing the
F8 key on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems, you can press the F8 key when the Boot Menu appears.
    b. Use the arrow keys to choose
Disable Automatic Restart on System Failure in Windows Advanced Options menu appears, and then press
    ENTER.

    Method 2:
    Step 1: Boot into
safe mode and see if the issue persists.

    See
Advanced startup options (including safe mode) for instructions on booting into safe mode with networking.

Step 2: If the issue does not occur in safe mode, boot your system in a clean boot state (in normal mode) to troubleshoot the issue.

Place the computer in a clean boot state and then check if it helps. You can start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: After troubleshooting, make sure to set the computer to start as usual as mentioned in
Step 3 from the KB article mentioned above.

If you need further assistance, please reply and we will be happy to help you.

DB:2.55:Gnome Keyboard Shortcut Weirdness: Win-Keys cd

    Hello,

I am trying to get Win+(letter) shortcuts to launch applications under gnome (nautilus, evolution, firefox, etc). The weird facts:

    * Only gnome-terminal accepts this type of shortcut (actually using win + t, any other letter works too - obviously? or not... read below!)* No other applications will launch with any win + letter shortcut (or Function keys, for that matter). This includes system shortcuts such as launch help browser, home folder, etc, within gnome keyboard shortcuts apps, and custom shortcuts defined directly from gconf-editor metacity keys (I have done this a dozen times before and it always worked)* All shortcuts work perfectly with Ctrl + Alt keyboard combinations. I suppose other possibilities work too: the problem seems to be with Win keys (with the exception of gnome-terminal, which is the really weird thing!!!)* I have tried both Win is mapped to Super and Win is mapped to Hyper keyboard options.

Obviously this is nothing terrible, but its weirdness bugs me: if only gnome terminal didnt work with a win key shortcut, I might let it rest...

I attach xorg.conf and xorg log in case anyone wants to look at it; I didnt find anything myself. Thanks in advance for any comments.

Here is an update. Two days later none of my shortcut keys work. I can't tell what is wrong and know that the mechanization of the shortcut keys is flawed. If I assign the same shortcut key to two .bat files the system does not post an error about duplicate

Now, post update, cal finds loads of unwanted stuff, but not my Google calendar shortcut. I have to keep typing calen before it appears.
Is there some way to customise which apps appear when searching? Ideally I would like it to appear, and be able to move it to the top of the list so it's the default option...
Yes, I know I could create icons and keyboard shortcuts, but I would like this to be possible for all my applications, and for me it's a lot faster to press 3 keys than to move to the mouse.

DB:2.51:Customising Which Apps Appear In Search 9j

I'duse a start menu. As it turns out, I do that.
When I want to SEARCH for something, it's because I don't want to take my mind off what I'm doing and concentrate on finding a tool.
Even though Microsoft doesn't want to face fact, there's a gulf between thinking stuff up that

Running WIN 8 preview on separate partition until I decide if it's worth it to upgrade. Keyboard is an HP enhanced with special function keys that control drive open/close, play/stop/search/mail shortcut/etc. Some of those keys work as intended, others
do no. Specifically the DVD drive control keys do NOT work when in WIN 8 but function fine in Win 7. Also, in Win8 the open/close button on the COMPUTER itself do not open/close the drive doors for loading DVD/CD, etc. I've run all the suggested fixes I
can find -- check for new/updated drivers, reinstall drivers, etc.
Can anyoneadvise if this problem will go away if I update Win 7 to Win 8 rather than run Win 8 on a separate partition or come up with a solution to get it working on the separate Win 8 partition so I can continue evaluation of Win 8? Appreciate any advice
    possible.

    Answers to ur ??:
    Wired Keyboard; Model HP KB-0630; Status: working properly; updating: tried both Device Mgr and HP;

Device Mgr indicating it is most current driver; HP site doesn't even list that keyboard.
Tried the suggestion on Compatibility mode but no change in status; (same keys work and same special keys have on effect).
What I have detected is that on the WIN 7 partition the driver is shown as an HP driver 1.0.7.1 dated 9/7/2006 and on the WIN 8 partition it's a Microsoft driver. I suspect that the MS driver is more of a generic driver and doesn't have support for the special
keys that HP built in to it's driver for the Media Center PC that it's supporting.
I've tried to copy the HP driver from the WIN7 partition to the WIN8 partition driver folder but it won't let me do so even with an Administrator function. I can't change the permissions in WIN8 for some reason, or I'm missing some step.
I have found out that I can get the drive doors to open if I go to Computerand Click on the specific drive.
Any thoughts as to IF I do the full install of WIN8(I already havepurchased the upgrade version win WIN8 Pro) on the main partition of my computer will that overwrite the driver or will itkeep the original HP version of thekeyboard driver?
Appreciate the suggestions thus far. Thanks

My new HP 450 has a Win 7 OS. On day 1, when I used it for the first time, I noticed that keyboard does not fuction properly.

The problem is that for some key combination, shortcut keys get activated and after that I cannot use the keyboard because e.g. if I type "E/e" key, the explorer window pops up, if I type "L/l" it locks the screen etc. The only way to get back the normal keyboard functionis by rebooting the computer.

It is very painful having paid for the faulty computer.

    2. Removed battery, pressed power button for 30 sec, reinserted battery, entered BIOS setup, reset the setting, saved changes, exit and booted windows.

    3. Uninstalled the keyboard driver and then rebooted.

For me it looks like a bug in the keyboard BIOS. Why can't HP BIOS team work on this and fix the issue on priority?

Hope HP team is monitoring the issues mentioned here. The first similar issue is reported in 2011 and still exists in 2014!

BIOS team wakeup! A clue for you - on my HP 450 laptop if I hit numeric key "4" and then "5", or sometimes twice "5", the shortcut fuctionality gets activated and the keys malfunction. The typing speed also matters, sometimes if I type it very slow it may work fine. So even a key debounce needs to fixed.

In some applications, if I type "4" and "5", the keyboad buferr data is (8 to 16 characters) puked out! I get continuos copy of the last 8+ characters till I press some key. I have tried this is excel, word and ppt and the behavior is consistant.

I expect a fix from esteemed HP team because I cannot use your "World best HP450!"

    Hello.
Iam trying prevent users from accessinglogoff, lock, shutdown etc actions from their desktop . In win XP this was easy. However, in Win 7 the logoff is always presented on new start menu power button action. i can remove logoff IF i allow users

So this leads me insituation where i need to allow users to either logoff or shutdown the computer. For some reason I cannot prevent both.

Tried to set power button default action to restart - logoff is default if shutdown/restart is prevented by other policy setting

Add a couple of sites to your favorites list e.g Homepage and Hotmail homepage. Note that both favorites begin with H. If you want to use keyboard as an easy way to fire up these favs, you could designate shortcut keys using ampersand like this:
    Homepage
    Hotmail Homepage

Up until IE7, you could designate a keyboard shortcut key for each of these favorites by adding an ampersand () before the alphabet you wanted to use as the shortcut. You could then use Alt+A+alphabet after ampersand combinationas a shortcut key.

This was a longtime, very useful feature for those who maintained long lists of favorites that had the same beginning alphabets. With IE8. these customized shortcut keys are no longer recognized. This is filed under Windows 7 but I've noticed that this happens
in Win XP, Win Vista and Win 2008 as well. This is just an IE8 related bug...rather missing feature.

Currently we are having trouble with the registry keys Shutdownwithoutlogon and CrashOnAuditFail.
    (1) We are now trying to disable the Shutdown button in Windows Logon Screen, we followed the instruction here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc939855.aspx but it's not wokring. I know this is for Windows 2000, but I cannot find a Windows 7
reference from Microsoft. Is there any one know how to hide the Shutdown button in the Windows Logon Screen?
    (2) We are trying to prevent auditable activities when the log is full by setting CrashOnAuditFail to 1. However, later on we found this link: http://www.itsecdb.com/oval/definition/oval/gov.nist.3/def/5000/Audit-Shut-down-system-immediately-if-unable-to-log-securit.html
, it mentions that the CrashOnAuditFail is the same option as Audit: Shut down system immediately if unable to log security audits . We are not like to set the PC to Shutdown when the Audit log is full, but we cannot find any reference from Microsoft explaining
this registry key. Is there any one know if it is true?
    Thank you.

DB:2.49:Setting Up Registry Key Shutdownwithoutlogon And Crashonauditfail Problem fk

    Hi,
    The first problem
    ==================
    1. To open Local Group Policy Editor, click on Start and type in gpedit.msc and hit Enter.
    2. In Local Group Policy Editor navigate to User Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Start Menu and Taskbar
and double click on Remove and prevent access to the Shut Down, Restart, Sleep, and Hibernate commands.
    3. Enable this setting and click Apply and Ok.
    4. The setting goes into effect right away for all users of the machine. The button to turn off the computer if the user hits CtrlAltDel will be gone as well.

    The second problem
    ===================
If Windows halts as a result of the security log becoming full, the system must be restarted and reconfigured to restore it to high-level security. When Windows restarts, the Security log is full and so no auditable actions are recorded until the Security
    log is cleared.

    Hi devitojj,

I regret that my previous suggestions did not help.

Does it restart if you are just running on battery power and not AC, or with AC only and no battery installed?

If it does not auto restart on just battery power, I would try a different adapter.

Although I do not think it is software, you can try this.Change what happens when you press the power button on your computer.

You could try leaving the RTC battery out for about 24 hours, just to be sure the capacitors have fully drained.

You can try a full recovery again and if that does not work, I can only suggest contacting HP support for assistance.

Original title: Shortcut key to shortcut not working

When you create a shortcut to do something, it is supposed to be possible to define a short key (combination) that invokes the shortcut. I have a batch file that erases the contents of a folder I use for holding temporary files when grading students' work,
and I want to create a shortcut that runs that batch file. Most recently, I put the batch file and shortcut to it in a folder on my desktop and defined Ctrl+Shft+G as the shortcut key. It worked fine until I rebooted the computer today, but after the reboot,
the shortcut did nothing. I searched for answers and found an article from earlier versions (up through Vista) of Windows that said the shortcut had to be in the Desktop or a couple of other Start menu related places for the shortcut key to work, so I created
new shortcut on my Desktop that runs my batch file. That new shortcut did not work, either. So I'm looking for answers as to why rebooting would kill a working shortcut key combination, and what the requirements are to create shortcuts that have working shortcut
    keys.

I have found partial list of the shortcut keys by searching this discussion group, but I know they were not complete. For example, control+c, control+x and control+v were not in the lists. I think these are Windows shortcut keys available in every program
unless reassigned. I am trying to set up shortcut keys for some macros, but don't want to overwrite something that is already assigned. Does such a list exist? I need at least five shortcut keys.

On a related question, if I reassign shortkeys key to macros stored in a worksheet, and that worksheet is not active, will the shortcut keys activate the macros or the original functions?

DB:2.46:Force Windows 7 To Shutdown Without Prompting To Force Shutdown. js

An annoying aspect of Windows 7 is when I tell it to shutdown when, in particular, Firefox is running, I shutdown via Start Menu, Firefox prompts me asking if I wish to close all tabs. If I do not respond, windows will prompt me with 2 different prompts
to shutdown. If I walk away from the machine the second prompt which asks "Force Shutdown" or "Cancel" will stay there indefinately. That is stupid. So I issued a shutdown on my machine today and walked away. Came home 12 hours later and it was still running
coz Firefox was waiting for a response. Perhaps Windows 7 should not allow modal dialogs to stop a shutdown indefinately. Either Windows needs to time out waiting or there needs to be a way to disable any prompting when I shutdown via GUI (NOT command prompt.
I should not have to do this by command prompt or write a script.) Certainly there is some type of setting in Win 7 that will let me turn that Force Shutdown prompt off permanently. If not, perhaps MS could add that to SP1 for Win 7.

Reinstalled Win 7 prof. again, installed all necessary drivers for graphic, sound, touchpad, etc, plus latest Value Added Package for my model, and shortcuts (pressin FN on keyboard + F1-F12) does not work. But when i point mouse to up of my screen and i click those buttons by mouse - they work.

But it's irritating to minimize game or movie to change brightness of screen, or when batteries from my bluetooth mouse are gone - i can not turn on touch pad with FN+F9 shortcut.

Tried also (before format) using Flash Card and some other stuff which was working on Vista 64, but they do not work on Win 7 64.

Any solution yet for that? Seen couple topics about that but now they are gone, or i'm blind?

I'll be very happy if i could use those at last.

    DB:2.45: Satellite A350-110 + Win7 64bit - Fn Keys Issue xs

I think your statement based only on the FN button issue and therefore you are disappointed…

I can tell you that I’ve got a two different Toshiba notebooks and the FN buttons are working even after new Win 7 installation.

The FN buttons are controlled by Toshiba Flash Card Support Utility and this tool does not depend on notebook model. I’ve got a old Satellite A series and I used the Flash Card Utility released for Sat L500 series. I installed VAP (valued added package) also from L500 series and then Flash Card.

Buttons work and there is no prob.

One tip - there are a lot of threads about this theme and you would find it faster in the past if you would use the search option in this forum...

In the designer it shows the shortcut keys with the underline but when i run the application it does not show the underline indicating a shortcut key. Now if I push the alt key they show up and they work fine just wondering if there is a setting somewhere that will make them show the underline automatically when you run the application so an inexperienced user knows that there are shortcut keys available?

My problem is similar to Raynman's but on a desktop (HP with Win 7 Home Premium), so it isn't related to closing a laptop. My games shortcut icons sometimes disappear, plus a shortcut tobroadband Internet connection. It doesn't happen except when booting
up or waking up, but it doesn't happen often either. just unpredictably. Only way to restore the missing icons is to recreate each one. I've seen this behavior in previous Windows versions back to 3.1. By this time Windows really ought to include a desktop-memorizing

    How to pin the

    Switch Between Windows

    shortcut to the Taskbar?

    Question

I want to create a shortcut on the Taskbar to switch between Windows, how can I achieve this?

    Answer

To pin the Switch Between Windows shortcut to the Taskbar, you can take the following steps to create the shortcut and pin it to the Taskbar
    or QuickLaunch bar:

    1.
    Right-click on the desktop, click
    New - Shortcut .
    2.
    Type
C:\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe DwmApi #105 into the Type the location of the item box, and then click
    Next .
    3.
Type a name for the shortcut such as
Switch Between Windows into the Type a name for the shortcut box, and then click
    Finish .
    4.
Right-click on the created new shortcut, and then click
    Properties .
    5.
    On the
Shortcut tab, click Change Icon button.
    6.
    Type
%SystemRoot%\System32\imageres.dll into the Look for icons in this file box and then press
    ENTER .
    7.
Double click the Flip-3D icon (which should be the first icon), and then click
    OK .

Now you can double click the shortcut to see if it works. If so, pin or drag the shortcut icon to the
    Taskbar or QuickLaunch bar.

Alternatively, you can use the combination keyboard keys to switch between windows as well:

    AltTab

    Switch between open items

    CtrlAltTab

Use the arrow keys to switch between open items

    Windows logo key Tab

Cycle through programs on the taskbar by using Aero Flip 3-D

    CtrlWindows logo key Tab

Use the arrow keys to cycle through programs on the taskbar by using Aero Flip 3-D

DB:2.44:Handling Start Menu Shortcut Conflicts When Deploying App-V Sequences With Sccm Side-By-Side With Traditional Version cz

Scenario: We are new to App-V and have over 1000 to deploy. Approach is to sequence existing packages as App-V and deploy using SCCM to Win 7.
Already on the desktops we have thetraditional version of a package that is an MSI with Advertised Shortcuts.
We deploy the sequenced version with the *same* shortcut name but obviously pointing to sfttray.exe etc whilst the physical version shortcut points to C:\Program Files\Vendor\MyApp.exe etc.
We want to retain shortcuts to both versions to mitigate risk. Business users are a bit nervous about going to App-V. For the short-medium term we want to deploy side-by-side and eventually remove the physical installs.
We expected when deploying MyApp sequence to a machine that already has MyApp that the old shortcut would remain and the new shortcut renamed MyApp(1) or something similar.
What actually is happening is that the App-V shortcut is sitting on top of the existing MSI Advertised Shortcut. The physical app remains intact but the user can't easily reach it as the shortcut isn't visible. We learnt that removing the user from the
Application's App-V AD group removed the App-V sfttray.exe shortcut to MyApp and then the previous shortcut to C:\Program Files\Vendor\MyApp.exe instantly is available again.
This caused production issues this week so we don't want a repeat.
Is it possible on SCCM or App-V or Windows to configure that where duplicate shortcuts exist to ensure that situation is handled so both are present ? I've scanned the registry keys but nothing doing. Asked an SCCM expert and
he says it is not SCCM doing this but the App-V client.
We have sequenced hundreds of physical packages into App-V so all the shortcuts are the same plus the biz users don't want MyApp (App-V) on the desktop, just the normal name. Although as I write this I think we may have to do this or how would the end
user distinguish between regular and App-V ?

There is no setting that will automatically change the folder location of the shortcut. Change the path inside the OSD file.

    DB:2.42:Win 7 64 On Desktop fk

Win 7 64 start up problem is back again.
When my desktop loads at start up it is very unsteady until I hit esc. I can also stop it by ESC on the Welcome screen.
If I click a shortcut before hitting ESC, it will load that program hundreds of times until it runs out of memory or if I stop it by ESC. After hitting ESC everything is normal but I have to delete all the duplicate programs. tp

Is your hardware ie. keyboard working fine? Can you unplug it and then try rebooting?

DB:2.42:Change Language Switching Shortcut In Windows 8 jd

Language switching shortcut is set to Win Space, but I want to disable win key through registry and remap the Win Space
to left Ctrl Space as Windows 7, which is not listed under
“Change langrage bar hot keys”. How
    could I do this?

DB:2.42:Change Language Switching Shortcut In Windows 8 jd

    Hi,
This function is by design. For more information regarding keyboard shortcuts, please see:
    Keyboard shortcuts
As maelwliams suggested above, we might change the switch input language hot keys to ctrlshift. Click the Change language bar hot keys-on the advanced key settings tab-click Change key sequence, then select in the switch input language.
And if we want to change the default behavior of those hotkeys, then we may consider to seek help in some developer forums for a better help.

DB:2.42:Just Started This Morning Win 7 Freezes After Sleep On Boot-Up 3c

When I went to bed last night, everything seemed to be working fine. As usual, I left my pc on with the applications closed. When I came to the pc (hp desktop running Win 7 Home Premium) this morningit was totally non-responsive. I used the power button
to force a shutdown and attempted to restart. It hung at the initial screen. I repeated forced shutdowns and attempted restarts, using the various "f" keys to do a system check, etc. Some "f" keys worked; others (like system setup) did not. Eventually
the pc started. I'm leery about shutting it down again, for fear that I won't be able to get it to restart.
    Advice?

    Hi,

Have you made any changes to the computer prior to the issue?

Try the Methods provided below and check if the issue persists.

Click the Hardware tab, and then click Properties.

    b) Note This step requires Administrator access
    c) Click the Power Management tab, and then verify that the Allow this device to wake the computer is enabled.
    d) Click OK, and then click OK again.
    Method 2:
If the above step fails then you may need to update the display card driver on the computer by visiting the display card manufacturer website and downloading the latest driver update.

    DB:2.42:Global Shortcut - Next Image / Previous Image ? 9j

    Hi there!

Is there a GLOBAL shortcut in ACR for going to the next / previous image?

I know that the up and down arrow keys work, but they work only if I have selected the images part of the window. But when I adjust the settings, the up and down arrow keys are only changing the setting's value.

I want to be able to switch between images while I adjust a particular setting, without losing focus on that setting. That's what I mean by "global" shortcut. So I just hit shortcut - enter value, hit shortcut - enter value, etc.

It will speed up the process of manually setting values for multiple images.
