I have a friend who is blind and was using Windows Live Mail. Now she finds she has been switched to outlook.com. She is unable to use the Windows Live Mail shortcut keys. I have looked up the shortcut keys, but cannot find what it is for attaching a
file? What are all of the shortcut keys and how can she get to the attach file paperclip? She is using the JAWS screen reader. Will Shift+TAB work as in Outlook?

I am building an application that has a COM spreadsheet control embedded in a form, and also has a menu strip with a few shortcut keys.
I've found that if I define a shortcut key on my menu that also means something to the spreadsheet control (eg F9, ctrl-C) then I get unpredictable results, I guess depending on which control has focus at the time I press the shortcut key - sometimes the menubar will handle it correctly, sometimes the spreadsheet will try and handle it.
Not really a problem, since I've worked around it by using keys that don't mean anything to the spreadsheet, but just wondering if anyone knows how to turn the shortcut keys belonging to the spreadsheet off ?

In Flash Cs 4 my custom made shortcuts mixing up after a while. A command is 'stealing' the shortcut of another command. So that two F-keys trigger the same command. This happens after a while of using flash or after startup. It occurs everytime. I then have to manually switch back the shortcuts which is very annoying. It happens always to the same shortcuts.

Have just converted an Access 2000 database to Access 2010 and running into weird problems with shortcut keys applied to labels/ tabs/etc, specifically when they are in a tab container.

In my scenario, I have a subform with a tab container and text boxes using shortcut keys in the label. When I first load the form, I can use any of the shortcut keys to get to any of the fields. Once I use a shortcut key to get to a field that is in a tab
container, NONE of the shortcut keys for that subform (whether they be in a tab container or not) work anymore. If I requery the subform, the shortcut keys will work once again until I use a shortcut key to get into a tab container.

I have been able to reproduce similar scenario in a blank database. I created a blank (unbound) form, with a text box using a shortcut key, and a tab container with a couple text boxes. I can use the shortcut key to get into the tab container field, but once
there, instead of my shortcut keys working I get the Office Access pop-up (in my case it was Alt-E), or nothing happens if I use other letters.

Bug? Please help!!!!!

It's a reported bug. Shortcut keys won't work if you're on a tab. They only work if the focus is on the form. Reported more than a year ago and not yet fixed. I don't get why Microsoft can't see this is as a high priority.

After using Amarok for a long time, I got really tired of its bugs and the amount of resources it uses. Thats why I decided to use mpd and ncmpcpp to listen to my music and Im pretty happy with it so far. The only thing Im missing is not being able to control music using system wide shortcut keys.

My keyboard has multimedia keys for controlling music, but I cannot find anywhere in ncmpcpp config file to assign them to certain behaviors.

Any idea how I can create those shortcut keys?

Well, I finally figured it out how to do that under gnome.

I installed mpc first. Then added shortcut keys to gnome shortcut key manager. The corresponding commands for each shortcut key would be something like mpc stop, mpc toggle, mpc prev, mpc next and so on.

No, you'll have to resort to VBA solutions then to assign categories and the assign keyboard shortcuts to those.
If you use Outlook 2010 (always mention your version when posting!), you can use Quick Steps to assign categories and assign keyboard shortcuts to those.

In Word 2003, when I use the Organizer to copy styles from one template to another, the shortcut key commands are lost. How can I copy them without having to modifiy each style individually if I want to create a new template?

In addition to what Chandra Shekar said, you could use save as on the old template to create a new one. It will have the styles, keyboard shortcuts, and such that the old one does.

I have not come across such requirement in OAF. There might not be a direct way of doing it. However double check the dev guide once and check if there is a section on shortcut keys. There is one on hotkeys but they mgiht not meet your requirements.
Once you go through them, may be the requirements could be somewhat aligned.

After hearing the Mac startup tone normally if you hold down C it will boot from the Mac Install/Recovery disc or if you press cmdoption+PR it will reset the PRAM or cmdoptionV should show the unix style boot up sequence.

None of these shortcuts seem to be working on my Mac and it boots straight into Mac OS 10.5, any ideas why there not working and how I can get these startup shortcuts working again?

I am using the latest wired Apple Flat keyboard, I did also try unplugging everything apart from my monitor and keyboard but that didn't work either.

Any suggestions?

I don't think I can boot into Open Firmware in the link you sent, as Intel Macs no longer use it. It looks like the only other way to reset the PRAM is to fiddle with the RAM which isn't that easy on a Mac Mini.

I have the same not ready message, so that's not it.
I am still sure that it's in the firmware password area, though.
Are there any batteries you can remove to bring all the firmware back to zero?
Bear in mind that there was a Mac firmware update some time back, at least for my MBPs.
I never used the firmware password protection for exactly these reasons. They are too difficult to undo.

Hello. I know the shortcut for cycling through a preview of blend modes is to use the Shift keys and the + or - sign. I also know you can not have any painting tools active. However with that said, to get this shortcut to work (which I really love) is very hit and miss. What must I do to consistently get this shortcut to work. Am using CS5. Thanks.

The Photoshop CC manual has 24 pages of shortcuts. The blending modes are on page 76.

If you have the tool options bar open, keep an eye out for the Mode setting. If it's visible, Shift + and - will toggle the tool's blend mode instead of the layer's blend mode. It's essentially the whole group between the healing brush and the dodge/burn tool that you have to avoid.

Edit: I just saw you use CS5. I think it still behaves the same way.

Is there a new keyboard shortcut to the restore partition? I have always used ctrl + F11 to restore the OS back to factory settings. I am now using a newer Inspiron E1405 with Vista Basic and cannot access Dell Restore using the old faithful ctrl f11 shortcut. This drive has not been altered in any way, so if it came with a hidden partition, it should still be intact. I do know what I am asking for so please spare any warnings of what this restore process includes, I am fully aware that all data will be erased. Any info will be greatfully appreciated. Thank you,

Refer to Forms Key Mapping. This is configured in fmrweb.res located in the Instance Home. INSTANCE_HOME\config\FormsComponent\formsDetails about how to use this file can be found within its contents. Open the file in a text editor. Be sure to make a backup before making any changes.

I've recently converted to mac from a pc. I am loving it so far. However, I have been frustrated by some of the contortions required for the default keyboard shortcuts. I've been assigning a variety of new shortcut keys, but can't figure out how to enter "delete" "forward delete" "esc" "home" "page down" etc, to as possible shortcut keys. Thanks to a response I received on another forum, it appears that this info is not available from the action descriptor and the only way to get at it is to write your action palette out to the file system as a temporary file, read and process this binary file, and then delete the temporary file you had written.

I have a question about disabling shortcut keys or functions on my windows keyboard.

I am using one of the latest Toshiba Satellite laptops with a Window8 install. For my email client I am using Thunderbird.

I would like to disable any shortcut or hotkeys on the keyboard.

The reason is - every time i type an email, i must mishit keys or something.. like accidentally hitting the Fn key.

And funny things start to happen whilst I am typing. My computer starts doing things i don't want it to.

Like:

(1) unasked scrolling - the window goes up and down, the message on screen gets larger or smaller,

(2) the font of the email changes,
(3) the email message gets cleared,
(4) new browser windows open, etc. .. in the past even an unfinished email got sent!

So far I have tried:

1.Task manager. On the startup tab, i have disabled the Toshiba main function key module.

2. In regedit. Added NoWinKeys and set them to 1:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoWinKeys - 1
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\NoWinKeys - 1

But without much success.

Would anyone have some advise on this?

CTRL + .: This is actually a shortcut for a shortcut. it is the same as CTRL + SHIFT + F10 which opens the smart tag window and allows you to add Using statementsOr implement interfaces and much more.
ALT + CTRL + e: This one will open the Exceptions window, which allows you to tell Visual Studio to halt at specific exceptions, halt on all exceptions or selecet some exceptions to ignore.
CTRL + k + f and CRTL + k + d: these two will format the code in the window to be nicely indented. using d will format all the document while using f will format only selected text. The formatting is for all types of documents, HTML, Xaml, XML, C# This one is my favorite.
SHIFT + Del: This one will cut the entire row from the document and past it to the clipboard. No need to select the row, just put the marker there and click SHIFT + Del and it is gone.
CTRL + k + c and CTRL + k + u: These two are for commenting selected text (the c options) and uncommenting selected text (the u option).
ALT + ENTER: this little shortcut will open up the Properties window
CTRL + k + s: This one opens up the code snippets dialogue within the code
F12: I think you all know this but still F12 is the shortcut for the Go to definition command which will take you to the definition of the object your marker is currently on.
F9: Another one i think you all know, clicking on F9 will add a breakpoint to the code line your marker is currently at. Clicking F9 again will remove this breakpoint from that line.
CTRL + ALT + q: This one will open the Quick watch window while you debug

You can re-program your keyboard for system functions when you click on the apple at top right, and select preferences. To reprogram the keyboard for application functions, click 'preferences' in the specific application.

There are several shortcut keys in Adobe Reader, which are not useful to me. Example: ESC, ENTER ...

This question may be somewhat confusing but want to be confirmed if there is any way to change the settings in XL2007 that other menu bars are not displayed when using any shortcut key?

For example- If I press ALT+H, I see various Home Function bars popping up with shorcut keys assigned to each function, I don't want to view them. I should simpy be able to continue using my shortcut keys without other bars displaying.

On my Mac (OSX 10.9.5), the 'step backwards' shortcut key (cmd-alt-z) isn't working; nothing happens.

On my Windows (Windows 7) pc, the 'step forwards' shortcut key (ctrl-shift-z) isn't working.

If I go into the shortcut menu and change the shortcut key, it doesn't let me change it back to the original shortcut (cmd-alt-z) and I have to reset the keybindings.

I have tried resetting preferences. All of the keys on both keyboards work, and I can use those keys as shortcuts in other software. I'm using photoshop CC (2014).

Any suggestions to get the shortcut keys working again?

I recently bought the Inspiron 1545 and to be honest was actually quite struck by how simple everything was in the design. However there is only one problem that I found when I use the laptop. In order for the function keys to be used, I would need to press Fn+(Function Key) Eg. Fn+F1. Now obviously function keys are supposed to act like a shortcut key for certain activies. This actually defeats there purpose. Instead by pressing those keys without the Fn key, I would be able to use the multimedia keys and anything else on the keys with a white symbol on.

I was wondering whether there was any way in which I could swap round the functuion of the keys so that I can use the function keys without having to press Fn?

That worked perfectly for me (Control Panel - Hardware and Sound - Adjust commonly used mobility settings - Fn Key Behavior

Change it to Function key). I was trying to help my sister, who was on the internet and suddenly lost internet access. The FN+F2 did nothing (I kept asking, are you sure youre pressing and holding FN etc..). No matter what she did, the FN combo didnt work. I looked like a hero when I said, OK, go into control panel etc... what she found was the Wireless Network read as Turn On, but was grayed out. When she went into the Function Key option, I had her de-select the Use the FN for the Wireless. Once she did that and hit apply, she received a message that the wireless would now be turned on. On the previous screen, the Turn On, now read as Turn On. She can now control the radio via the Mobility Setting. Shes on the internet and is very happy as she has work from home stuff to do.

I am new to the formus and searched prior to posting this message. To access Task Manager in Windows XP, you use ctrlaltdel keys. Does anyone know the equivelent shortcut keys to use to access task manager using VMWare and the Windows XP operating system on a Mac?

fn-control-option-delete will work the same as control-alt-del.

Hi, I wish to know if there is a way to disable the shortcut keys on the left hand side of the keyboard on the DV6-3113SA.

The keys perform varions functions such as shortcut to open email client, internet browser or calculator program. Can someone PLEASE help me disable these - the ability to disable these is NOT in the BIOS, the option in the bios forfunction keys is for the FN+F1 thru FN+F12 but does not seem to affect the keys on the side of the keyboard which I am sick of knocking when using tab, caps lock, shift, ctrl and the escape key. HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!

I have disabled all that keys except for "Print" one. Used SharpKeys 3.0. It turned out quite straightforward: the intuitive approach will work. The Print key is impossible to remove without loosing the "p" key. And unfortunately it is a very "active" one... But at least I always see what has happened - no mysterious disappearances of current windows and no uncontrollable mailing of the messages I have not quite finished yet...

That is the perfect example of paving with good intentions.

It would be wonderful to disable that "Print" key as well! It is quite annoying.

After 3 years of good experience, I now have a major problem, to me!!!!

On startup I get a white HP screen that requires a password to acess most subsequent actions. Using F keys I was able to do a check of my Hard Drive, all results showed "Passed." I have never established a password, nor needed one in the past.

How do I; - eliminate this "trip" to HP? My computer has never been there before yesterday, 9/10/2013.

- get to my desktop with all of it's program and shortcut icons?

There is NO string of numbers nor letters.

In upper left of screen is the following;

User ID : Lee

Domain : user-HP

Select Token

Password [with blue background, like a button to click]

In the middle of the screen are three oval icons [two at one level and one centered under]

In the lower righrt of the screen is the HP logo.

By holding down various F keys I get the following results;

F1 - System Information

F2 - System Diagnostics In this mode I did the HARD DRIVE TEST and received PASSED responses for all three tests,

SMART Check, Short DST and Long DST.

F7 - HP Spare Key

F9 - Boot Device Options [request for Password (PW) came up}

F10 - BIOS Setup [aske for Log In. didn't try]

F11 - HP Recovery [PW]

F12 - Network Boot [PW]

Escape - Continue Startup [PW]

I am only a user of my computer, not a techie of any sort. Thanks for any help youi may provide.

it's tricky and can be dangerous if not done right) - u have to create copies in case of bad configuration and that's way above my head- or u keep them all. Hope someone have a miracle to propose :)

I have Dell INSPIRON N5010 laptop.

i am using this laptop from last 2 years. but from last 4 month its keyboard giving me issue.

Some keys of keyboard is not working. specially the upper numeric keys (1 to 0) the keys offirst row -apha keys (QWERTYUIOP) and the 2nd row of Key (ASDFGHJKL) also the numeric keys from right side (1 to 9)

I bought the Inspiron N5040 for my mother. With less then 20 hrs on it. They Windows key seems to be sticking. I have triedto reboot and many other tipson here and other websites. Anyone know how to fix it. When the windows key sticks. This is all I getADMIN NOTE: Substitute character removed as per TOU in the text boxes. Cant even do a search when the key is stuck. Thanks for any help.

Using VSTO I can disable the menu items, such as the track changes menu item, but the end user is still able to use the (disabled item) using the shortcut keys.
 
What should I use in VSTO to remove the shortcut keys only on the document that is currently running, or the Word instance that is running?

You should certainly be able to DISABLE keyboard shortcuts in Word, as well as create shortcuts to internal Word functionality. They're controlled by the KeyBindings collection of the Application object, which is accessible through the object model.
As when using CommandBars, it's extremely important that you set the CustomizationContext before you make any changes. In the case of a VSTO project, that would be the VSTO document, itself (thisDocument.InnerObject).
