    I too have a Falcao kit and I wear it proudly, unlike if I owned a Di Maria one. Falcao was a stand-up guy who tried really hard to make it work but it just wouldn't.

    I hope you are referring to Falcao when saying 'past his peak' as Zlatan shows signs that he is at his peak and will remain there for abit. I know the 'but its Ligue 1' argument will come up & while I dont think Zlatan will not score as many in the EPL, he is more than able to (probably than anybody else) give the defenders in the EPL a man-handling. His influence on the young squad will also be very important.

    I see your point, but if we allow Zlatan to do what Zlatan does & accommodate him (in regards to workrate, running - leave that to the younger lads) , he can put all his effort into holding up the ball and scoring goals/bringing everyone else into play.

    Also, I am new to this reddit so Im not sure how much everyone here likes stats (I know they are not everything) but statistically Zlatan is at his peak at the moment & when you watch him play, you always have the feeling he can pull a move out of his ass.. a sign of a worldclass player.

    All in all, I hope we sign him and he has a positive impact on us (Im sure he will). But more importantly than that, I hope he helps Rashford develop.

    He's looked good out right actually. Got the confidence and skill to take a man on and get to the endline, bags and bags of pace, good delivery. Cutting inside, he's shown he can combine around the box with the likes of Lingard, Mata, Martial. I think Rashford will show positional flexibility as another strength at 10, wings, and striker. That said though, I see Zlatan being a focal point at 10 and Rashford playing off him up top.

    Well he's only played there for 45 minutes at Liverpool in the Europa League on a day when the whole team was poor and he was sacrificed at halftime for Carrick. But in flashes running the channels and pulling wide he's definitely got the skill, pace and confidence to cause the defense problems.

    I think he also played on the right a lot for the academy. I know he played at 10 more than striker for the academy.

    Ibra just being on the field has a bigger impact than Falcao ever did. This is a striker who has just come off his highest scoring season, not one who is still recovering from an injury. This is like having Keano back in the squad, the oppo knows thats they'll have to be on their 110% or they'll get royally fucked.

    The impact he'll have on our young squad will be phenomenal as well. Just 3 years ago, the closest they'll get to him is through their Ultimate team, now they are lining up WITH him. He is a god like figure ,a walking meme. But unlike others, he embraced the meme and out-memed reddit. I'd prolly want to play at my fullest in the fear of him beating the living shit out of me.

          Bit of misunderstanding around how much Zlatan would cost.

          Let's compare a potential Zlatan signing to a typical signing - I'll compare with Schneiderlin's signing from last season.

          Schneiderlin signed for 24m on a four year contract and is paid approx 100k per week.

          This puts his weekly "cost" to the club at approx 215k per week.

          Therefore, signing Zlatan for anything around the 200k per week is not exceptionally high or low, it would put him bang on average for a Manchester United signing.

          Di Maria and Falcao, both of whom were marquee signings, topped the shirt sales last season. Zlatan is of the same vein, and while he may cost a shitload per week, the club almost instantly will make their money back. James Rodrigues for example sold 345,000 shirts in the first 48 hours of his signing, earning Madrid ~21m.

          Long story short, Zlatan would probably make the club more money than he would cost. Conservatively assuming Zlatan sells half as many shirts as James in the first 48 hours, that's still 10m in revenue in two days, which (assuming Zlatan's wage is 250k p/w) would pay for his services for 40 weeks!

          Lay off the cost argument people!

          Mixed feelings.

          On the one hand, he's a free agent who likely gets a short contract. He's old but he's obviously world-class, and in the short term we'd be getting his proven quality to take us over whichever line we're targeting come the end of the season - top four, league title, whatever. We're not sacrificing a lot to secure his signature.

          On the other hand, if we're not going to buy a striker of the future - along the lines of Aguero to City, Costa to Chelsea, Lewandowski to Bayern, Aubemeyang to Dortmund, Higuain to Napoli - I'd rather stick with the promise of Rashford and Martial instead of limiting their opportunities in favour of a one-year veteran.

          I don't hate this move. I just hope that if and when he gets here, he doesn't go into nosedive decline, and that we don't sacrifice our long-term planning in order to facilitate Ibrahimovic's swansong.
