I have left reddit due to my disagreement with the direction the website has taken in the last years.

He's also fucking crazy so he's got that going for him.

How is he crazy ? Sorry, dont know much about him.

when he managed bayern he went to the locker room and showed the team his balls. To prove that he has balls to take anyone off the team.

Is there actually any proof of this, or is it just another story that people love to talk about but isn't true?

holy shit, I can imagine now bunch of ManUnited players already talking to their agents. It's going to be tough to win over or impress this guy. I envisage a competence or GTFO scenario, which should do club a lot of good.

If the Netherlands do badly at the World Cup, there is going to be an absolute shitstorm about whether this was a distraction.

Well, since everyone already expects we are going to do badly, I'm not so sure about that.

Well, if van Gaal hadn't been appointed United manager, people might have just said, "that's disappointing, but maybe this is just a transition period" (or something, I have no idea how the Dutch national team is right now). Whereas now, people might well blame van Gaal for being unprofessional and not focusing on the job at hand.

In effect it could be another reason to criticise van Gaal.

[–]Fortuna SittardStrijdhagen 29

people might well blame van Gaal for being unprofessional and not focusing on the job at hand.

Van Gaal might not be universally liked in the Netherlands but everybody knows that he gives 100% no matter what. I don't think a lot of people will mind that he's appointed to Man U already. He's the type of guy that won't let himself get distracted and will fire away any questions about Man U during The Netherlands' campaign I'm sure.

About everybody in the Netherlands agrees that we're inot gonna do well. We have terrible players except for Robben and Van Persie and there are no talents like the previous generation except for Depay maybe, but the rest is just mediocre. It will take at least six years for the Dutch team to be anywhere as good as a few years ago, since there are some great prospects that are about 16 years now.

We don't have terrible players, we have inexperienced ones. There is a clear age gap because an entire generation went to waste, but there is plenty of talent alongside Depay in the younger generation, especially defensively and midfield. Good enough to succeed the last generation at least.

Because the last generation wasn't that good. They reached a final with 19th century football and people talk as if we had gold in our hands with our players. None of our players apart from Van Persie and Robben would even be considered for the national team in the 98-00 Dutch team.

I agree with you. The current team is still not ready for the big tournaments, but that's work in progress. It's the KNVB's mistake for not introducing these boys in time. Now they need to do that in a tournament.

Sneijder would qualify for the 98 00 team by the way.

Don't worry. You will still beat Australia by at least 3 goals.

Are we already whitewashing the absolute shitness of our 2010 finalists?

Nobody is expecting the class of 2014 to move beyond the first knockout round, but saying they're "terrible"... The class of 2010 had Mathijssen and Heiting as CB's, for god's sake.

[–]Werder Bremensirjash 184

You mean opposed to when val Gaal failed to lead them TO the world cup? He's already doing better than ever. And even if they do badly, van Gaal will just hand out bad grades to players and the media. ;)

[–]The NetherlandsHmmmQuite 103

I definitely can. Holland is pretty terrible at the moment. Plus at best they'll finish second, play Brazil and go out then. This isn't going to be a successful world cup for Holland.

So Mou was Van Gaal's protege and Rodgers was Mou's protege, we just need BR to find a protege, or to unearth Van Gaal's mentor, for the Tottenham gig to make a nice daisy chain at the top of the Premier League table.

[–]Young BoysGorillaJunior 7

Well, both van Gaal and Mourinho had more than one assistant-coach over the years. Clarke and AVB come to mind for Mourinho.

So will RVP be the new Manchester United Captain?

Always thought Rooney should be the one..United fans, what is your take?

I think most would say RVP is a little undeserving of it, consider he has only been here 2 years. But if he gets and does a good job everyone would be happy.

[–]Manchester UnitedHolyyShizz 133

Despite all the tantrums Rooney has thrown, I still think he was our most valuable player for the past 7 years.

He played so out of position, he could've be mistaken for a defender.

Despite all the tantrums Rooney has thrown

Do we want a tantrum throwing captain? The captain doesn't have to be the best player in the team.

edit: He has also apparently fallen out with a few of the players because of his wage negotiations this year.

[–]Manchester UnitedGarethGore 147

We had Roy Keane as captain... After him everyone seems like a cheery teddy bear

One day we'll fill those Keane and Vieira shaped holes in our lives.

[–]Manchester Unitedimnotellingyoumyname 116

This comparison, to me, is utter nonsense.

What Rooney has done twice is so completely different to how Keane behaved.

Keane did a dodgy interview and SAF felt he was over-stepping the mark at times.

Rooney tried to reject United twice.

When he was here there wasn't much doubt about Keane's passion and love for the club. In no way can the same be said for Rooney.

You can't equate Keane post-United to the player that lead us for years, a player for whom Manchester United and everything this club represents was almost everything.

The only tantrums with Keane in a *United shirt were really on the pitch when the red-mist descended.

[–]Sheffield Unitedshudders 36

You are completely correct.

Add to that Keane is a born leader on the pitch. When a game got rough he'd be the first to throw his head (and more often than not studs) right into the equation. Very much a leads by example type of player, which I think Rooney, despite his obvious talents, is not.

You can't equate Keane post-United to the player that lead us for years

Again, absolutely true. His tactical ability as a manager is one thing, but where he definitely fails is an emotional nuance. I expect Keane gets on well with players like him. But the softer players in a team, those who don't respond well to criticism, he will fail.

The captain just needs to be a strong leader, who can get everyone in line. From the United matches I've seen this season Rooney definitely looked like the player who could give orders & lead from the front. If Van Gaal & Giggs can get him to calm down & stop mouthing off to the ref then I think he could be a decent captain for United.

Isn't it hard to marshall a team from the striker position? I can imagine the best position for a captain would be defence/defensive midfield.

I think it's all dependent on style of play.

If you're a team that deploys a strong defensive tactic with the thought of attacking on a quick counter, then a goalkeeper or defender would be a good captain.

If you a pass & move team, then a midfielder.

And if you're a risk it all on a strong attack, having to rush back to defend a counter, then a midfielder or attacker would make a good captain.

However, this doesn't take individual players into account. It doesn't always matter what position a player plays, if they're at a club for a long time or they are a veteran play, they may have strong leadership skills or command enough respect amongst the players to galvanise the whole team.

Rooney may be a striker, but he goes in deep & helps in defence a lot. He's been at the club for a long time & I would think that most of the current players have a lot of respect for him.

[–]Tottenham HotspurTheDJFC 5

He'll grow up sooner or later... right?

A lot of people under-rate Rooney because they don't watch the full game, but he does so much other than just scoring - definitely one of your most valuable players

Thats his problem though, he does so much defensive work that he's always out of position when we need him making runs on goal, which is why we had so much sterile posession last season because no one was making runs ahead of the ball

[–]Brighton & Hove Albionkugrian 18

If Moyes had been kept on another year, I'm 70% sure Van Gaal would have taken over Spurs. He wants to manage in the premier league, and he's too old to wait for a job that's not available for at least a year, potentially never if the current manager does well............

Also, I don't think LvG was right for Spurs in the same way that De Boer/Poch is. Utd needed someone to come in short-term and try repair the damage, whereas Spurs need someone younger who would implement a long-term vision (Levy, don't even think about it.)

Rooney is a similar type of guy. Not too flashy in his play but still with an eye for the special moment.

Now Ibra really needs to come to PL.

"Who should I listen to? A legend [Van Basten] or Van Gaal?"

[–]Bayern Münchenfleckes 26

Well it's confirmed then that I'll watch a lot of Manchester United press conferences then next season. Can't wait! Louis is great!

No kidding. I'm honestly more excited for the press conferences than for how Man U will actually be performing.

Well, lads... It was fun while it lasted!

Yes!! Finally after skirting around for weeks. Welcome Van Gaal!

He certainly has experience of managing big teams and big players. I guess that's what they wanted after what happened with Moyes.

Fuck, now I'm scared. He is the main man behind bayern's revival. Can easily make united top 4 contenders again

[–]Bayern MünchenLeopoldstrasse 17

He also almost got fired before the winter break his first season.

[–]Hamburger SVdfjuky 16

Still though, he undeniably laid the foundation. Implemented the 4-2-3-1, put Schweinsteiger on the "Doppel-Sechs" and pretty much made his career with that (I don't think he would even play for the NT anymore if he would still play as winger), promoted guys like Müller and Badstuber to the first team. Yeah, his spell at Munich didn't end all too well because hes a fucking nutjob but the guy knows his shit.

Title contenders more like

Is he going to show the team his balls?

[–]Manchester United-Zenith- 14

Hallo guys, I'm Louis and these are my balls.

[–]Inverness Caledonian Thistlezoogeo 4

The man's hilariously insane, cannot wait for next season!

[–]Bayern MünchenFieldOfBirds 5

Irrespective of how this turns out for United results-wise, this certainly promises to be an interesting ride for us spectators.

Two things make this interesting for me:

1) I wonder if he will get along with Rooney, I think their relationship could definitely be difficult.

2) What will he be allowed to do with/to the current squad, the summer window is going to be great.

As they say, only time will tell.

Van Gaal coming to the premier league is a dream come true for everyone involved. He's always ready to be controversial in the media while at the same time bringing in youth players to the first team. Hopefully he'll step away from the classic 4-4-2 and implement a tactic that'll get United playing fluid, Dutch-styled football considering United have an abundant amount of talented players.

Hopefully he'll bring in some more young players and get rid of the overvalued relics that currently play in the main squad.

In other news, Ricky Martin is gay. A lot of shocking news at once.

If you EPL guys liked Moyes at United you're going to love Van Gaal! (Probably for different reasons)
