According to most people his tactics are parking the bus and nothing else so this is all a lie you've posted here.

This highlight video really shows the way he tweaked RM to his players a bit...and the lightning quick counter attacks they used to have.

I get excited just thinking of Rooney spraying those forward passes to Martial and Rashford (hopefully Memphis as well), Luke Shaw and Tony V bombing down the wings....
People seem to be worried about Rashford not developing now with Mou, etc. but I think he's going to fit perfectly in this system. He's lightning quick, and has shown he doesn't shy away from pressure (Arsenal, Citeh). I also think Mou would love basking in the glory of people not being able to say he doesn't use youth when our Martial/Rashford duo is tearing up the league in 2 years.
Can he be overly defensive sometimes? Absolutely...but honestly I'd take a defensive mindset with a lightning quick counter attack any day over boring, backwards possession. Especially if "parking the bus" for a few games locks up a league title.

Can someone do a TL;DR please? Besides, isn't it just park the bus and then counterattack?

You are trolling, right?
[–]NightSkyRainbowGiggs 1ポイント2ポイント3ポイント 55分前 (3子コメント)
Well, of course it isn't just that simple. Think about it, there has to be much more science involved at the top level of the most watched sport in the world. If it were that simple, you and I would be managers as well.
It's hard to do a tl;dr but here's an article that was posted recently that isn't that full of pure tactical discussion and instead, adds some historical context as well. Much more readable if you don't want to go too deep.

Actually theres not. Management for most managers isnt half as nuanced as you might think.
Here's an article from 2006 talking about Mourinho's world class, unique insight into his rivals (Its a ten year old story so thats the best link I could get). The entire English press shot their collective loads over this when it was leaked, all were incredibly impressed at the detail and insight that Chelsea had but it really wasn't much of anything. Shearer is likely to try and get on the end of crosses, Stephen Carrs over 30 and had two serious knee injuries so he isn't very fast, Michael Owen always pretends he's going to go to the backpost at corners but always moves to the front because he's a shortarse and thats the only way he can head a ball. Boumsongs basically shite.
Its good detail and all and leagues above 'Arry Redknapps "just facking run around a bit and kick the ball in the net" philosphy. But literally everyone who watched Match of the Day at the time could have told you all that. Never mind someone who watched full matches every week.

Well I see what you mean but I'm not entirely convinced. Over the past few years I've read a lot of tactical articles and the likes on this sub which I admittedly do not understand perfectly but I can appreciate the nuances of the game. In particular, I recall these interviews with LvG that were transcribed by a South American student that detailed his philosophy, and I saw a lot of it take shape on the pitch over the next few months. Besides, if you read the articles OP and I linked, there does seem to be more going on that meets the MOTD eye.
Perhaps we have the benefit of hindsight and hence can simplify tactics into rather obvious decisions? It would seem so.

There is a lot going on, but for most managers they don't get into it in the level that they could. LVG is a very detail and tactic oriented manager, but most aren't. Some managers don't care very much about tactics: Redknapp, Sherwood for example. Other managers like Klopp and Pulis just do their own thing almost regardless of opposition. Obviously there is some variation between how attacking and defensive they get. But LVG level of preparation is rare which is why you see such a pushback from players when video analysis is used, its completely foreign to them to do that.
