Teen holds American flag until help arrives - Cincinnati News, FOX19-WXIX TV

A young man didn’t intend to become the center of attention, his instinct just kicked in, and now a photo of his American spirit is going viral.

Cole Dotson, of Continental, in Putnam County, Ohio, was going past the school on Sunday when he noticed the American flag had fallen to the ground. He immediately went over, picked it up, held it and called his grandmother for help.

It was not the call she expected when he said he had a problem. She went to the school and took this photo while they waited for someone to put it back up. His grandmother actually works at the school and knew who could help.

"This picture of me got almost 100 likes and almost 60 shares in two hours. Makes me proud. Thank you all for the support! I didn't intend to get recognized for what I did. But I am sure glad to see the support and respect for the flag. I love this flag and this country. God bless America," Dotson posted on his Facebook page.

His mother, Rhonda Ordway Pester, posted the photo on Facebook and said that her son learned in scouting that the flag should never touch the ground.

The picture has been shared by hundreds of people and the comments and words of praise and thanks are amazing.

Dotson attends Vantage Career Center in Van Wert, Ohio.

A friend said that Dotson comes from a family of military personnel and that he, too, will be going into the service.
