I've heard constantly throughout this saga* that Giggs needs to leave and cut his teeth somewhere else.
Since Fergie we've had Moyes, who was a premier league manager with a lot of experience having control over a club and working in the premier league, and with small teams generally performing above expectations. That didn't work out. This was followed by LvG; a manager of huge clubs who has had success in 3 other countries and done well in Europe etc. And that didn't work out.
There is NOWHERE else you can get experience to be manager of Manchester United. Giggs has been with the club for 30 years, and knows how it works better than anyone else except possibly Fergie and Charlton. Send him to a small club and if he does well it won't change what people think of him (people will say 'he's only managed Everton'), and it won't make any difference to how he performs with us. Send him to a big club (how…) and if he performs well again it won't work.
I hope my gut feeling is wrong and it works out with Jose now, but the fact is Giggs has the best preparation now to be Man Utd manager. Does nobody remember the 3 games he did manage? That was good, exciting football. Probably the happiest time for this club in the last 3 seasons, this weekend excepted.
- which I'm sick of too; you have to expect United to be in the headlines, but the current swirling of shit is just bad for the club's reputation which I always treated as above that
