That's a funny looking crossbow.

Is that the 'Roach' in Orbit behind him.

It's hard to tell the dimensions since he's blocking it but it kind of looks like the Ceres Galliot from Destiny

Geralt's horse is called Roach.

Yup, but Geralt names all his horses "Roach" because they are expendable.

Edit: friendlied it up a little

So . . . his horse is called Roach. I don't understand the "no"

You're right, i could have worded it better. Ill fix it.

I also struggle with not being unnecessarily confrontational on Reddit, Damn it! No really I do it's a problem

I blame other people ripping me a new one when I mess up on here.

I get over-skeptical at times...

Yeah I think so but I'm really trying to stay positive and treat people with kindness regardless of their behavior towards me. It's something I'm somewhat good at (not like 100% of the time but mostly) in real life but it can be difficult not being argumentative here for some reason.

In Spanish they translated to "Sardine" (Sardinilla). I like Roach more than Sardine, but probably it's Sardine in Polish, since Spain conserve every name (Jaskier instead Dandylion, for example. In English they usually translate the names)

From what I understand it's not named after the insect but the fish.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_roach

So Sardine makes sense.

You mean because they can survive a nuclear blast right?

Seems like it may be a joke. Seeing as how his Roach horses die so quickly.

They are all called Roach (Płotka in polish). It's female name and he gives it to ever horse he has, even male, cause he cannot be bothered with thinking of new names.

Never played witcher, TIL. I was racking my brain trying to think of a ship named "roach" lol

Okay, but it still looks like a ship from Destiny.

Naa, im pretty sure it's Roach.

I thought the same thing .Needs more blue.

More importantly can this one finally go in water?

Just swim across and have Roach teleport to meet you on the other side.

If i vaguely remember correctly, the main dude in Cyberpunk 2077 is part of some special branch of law enforcement and he hunts down people that have gone crazy via getting too many implants or something like that. Pretty much a sci-fi witcher.

The old pen & paper version of Cyberpunk 2020 had a mechanic to keep players from simply uber-gaming by jamming as much cybernetic enhancements into their bodies as possible, where you'd lose humanity points or something with each implant. Once it dropped too low, you'd risk going on a Cyberpsychosis rampage. The cops had special tactical units to deal with nutjobs with body plating, targeting computers, and enhanced reflexes.

Similar with Shadowrun. Too much chrome and you'll essentially become a zombie.

I LIVE. I DIE. I LIVE AGAIN!!!!

Oh and theres a point where someone from the witcher 3 goes into the future and sees the world of cyberpunk i think.

https://youtu.be/iM5QjvEoU1s

Yes! Ciri visits the cyberpunk world and says something about metal horses/carriages.

Looking forward to the Witcher 3 easter egg in Cyberpunk 2077

I'd love to see more classic games set in space! Like what if Call of Duty was all futuristic and...never mind

Call of Duty: Combat Evolved

CoD: Evolution of combat

We already had 1 EOC, we don't need another for God's sake

Can we take a moment to gripe about how they get to space in that trailer? They take rockets that go STRAIGHT up, then level out, et voila, they're in microgravity. But orbit doesn't work like that at all! What they showed was a suborbital flight. They would have turned off their engines, leveled out, and then immediately fallen back to earth, while their opponents whooshed past them at the speed of a rifle bullet.

It's not like it's an obscure factoid, either. In every single rocket launch you can clearly see the nose of the rocket tips down to point at the horizon. (called a gravity turn)

I don't mind your swooping, unrealistic dogfight spacefighting. But at least know where to point your damn rocket.

Some people don't seem to realise that satellites aren't still. They're actually travelling at high velocities to stay in orbit.

Exactly! Honestly, the moment it clicked for me was when someone explained it to me using the cannonball analogy.

Basically, it's a bit like firing a cannonball horizontally so fast, by the time it would hit the ground due to gravity, it's already gone over the horizon, and now a new direction is "down".

[–]Chii 5

flying is like trying to hit the ground, but missing.

I know the sequence where they just go up into space isn't realistic but at an earlier point it looks like there was a ship with anti-grav engines that was just suspended in the air, either the big ships have those or a wizard did it

I've always found it funny that people can selectively nitpick at one peticular crazy thing while ignoring the rest

If executed properly these type of games could be interesting to play (not you CoD). I'm keeping my eye open for The Surge. It is supposed to be a Dark Souls like game set in a futuristic post-apocalyptic setting made by the same developers of Lords of the Fallen. Assuming they learn from their mistakes, it could have potential.

Man, Lords was like hospital coffee. It looks like a souls game, it kind of feels like a souls game, but it's almost but not quite entirely unlike a souls game.. By playing it in between BB and DS3 it was obvious how much experience From has, and how hard they work to refine each game. I'd be happy for them to correct their mistakes from Lords and make a contender.

In its defence id like to say it looked so much better than a souls game. Everything else was sub par though

This is fuckin rad.. But how would they implement an open world space futuristic game? Seeing as futuristic games have more than 1 world to travel to (generally)

Either way this is a cool ass concept

2077 is only 61 years away bro.

If it is 2077, I was thinking it would look more like Cyberpunk 2077...you know, since Ciri has already been there and all...

You say that, but 61 years into the past is 1955, only a decade after WW2. How far have we come since then? Our world has changed totally. Who knows where we'll be in 61 years?

I think we'll hit deus ex cyborg future far before we hit regular interplanetary travel.

Fuck I hope we go past that. I'd like to live on for a few hundred years.

Do you mean interplanetary or interstellar? Because we could go to Mars regularly and that would be regular interplanetary travel.

My money is on "on earth"

Remindme! 61 years

your gonna be cowering as a frail old man hiding from the invaders in your kithcen as they swarm your position. but alas the soldier who checks the kitchen fails to notice you. you're safe. then you're phone buzzes to let you know you were right and you get struck down with laser fire.

[–]PM_ME_SAD_STUFF_PLZ 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

A safe assumption would be in the middle of an AI revolution with a colony on Mars.

We have come far technologically, not so much in technological capability. The military is still using 40 year old hardware

Well, between flight and the first step on the moon was less than 70 years.

Mars is already on schedule, I'd say it's entirely possible within the next 30 years.

Mass Effect seemed to have handled it ok.

Mass Effect is hardly open world though. It's a bunch of locations connected through a mapping system.

well right, but the illusion of open world is there. You can still go to most planets and touch down. Drive your little space car around and stuff. if you really want "true" open world, then youre talking about no mans sky... or atleast how they are advertising it.

The reason it's called 2077, is because CD Projekt Red is making another (A)RPG, called Cyberpunk 2077.

They also claim it's much larger than The Witcher 3 was.

My money is on it's going to be amazing, whenever it releases.

I would love to see an open world scifi game set inside a giant ship or a space station/hab. Just a huge map but set around a giant circle. I'm sure you could use lod tricks to make a flat map seem like a circle.

Think the giant cylinder ships like rama.... or a game that takes place on just mass effects cidital station... the whole station.

All kinds of possibilities.

Doesn't need to be 'future' since they travel through space and time in Wild Hunt to other realities, could just just land on a new planet / time, steal some gear, and open world game there :)

Throw in some Warframe and Space Engineers and that's it.

Maybe something like star citizen/ EVE with the MMO parts taken out and replaced with more RPG parts?

The X games (X3: Terran Conflict or X3: Albion Prelude being the current best) are good open world spacegames.

You have a hyperdrive for very long trips, and otherwise you fly across sectors to the warpgates to travel to the next sector, and there are many stations in each sector.

In the X3 series you never leave your ship, but a system like that spliced with Mass Effects walking around on planets and stations would be a very open world game.

Sick photo, but what's the point of the swords?

One is steal for killing people and the other one is silver for killing monsters.

youd think the silver one could pull double duty

Silver is a brittle metal. Essentially burns through monsters, so it keeps its integrity and edge. You'd have better luck with a baseball bat against humans in armor.

It's also not a sword made of silver, but a steel sword with a silver edge. Probably still better than a baseball bat, but most of the silver would be gone by the time you're done.

It's got a steel core, but I don't imagine that gives enough weight to do any damage once the silver's gone.

Either way, I guess it's just a vidyagame

Silver is far from fragile than steel. And in the books, he uses steel for both anyway, only breaking out the silver for ghosts and cursed creatures.

Silver is a shit material for swords, way too brittle.

The point is Silver burns through cursed flesh (According to fantasy, I guess) so it doesn't matter if it's too brittle since it won't meet any heavy opposing force. You could chuck a heavy silver ball and do decent damage, the sword shape is just for ease of use and practicality (Also it looks more badass than throwing silver shavings around).

In reality not just fantasy, silver is a natural antiseptic, or natural at burning "cursed" flesh. In essence that is were fantasy stories got the idea.

Didn't know that, that's actually pretty cool

As it isn't a good idea to shoot in an airplane it is not a good idea to shoot in a spaceship. Damaging the hull while you are pressurized inside? Bad idea. Also the risk of hurting your partner while in a melee with multiple swarming enemies is not as high if you are using a melee weapon instead of an insta-kill-multi-mega-swoosh-blaster.

You'd think that the hulls of futuristic spaceships would be durable enough to withstand handheld weapons. I mean, if they can shoot each other without exploding...

That is from the outside. The shot doesn't have to go through the hull but may damage pipes, electronics and other futuristic shit.

Rule of cool and gameplay balance. Melee weapons must always be more powerful and offer better defensive options than ranged attacks.

Prime examples: Raiden, Grey Fox and Vamp from the Metal Gear series.

It's Art. Aesthetics over logic.

It'd be better with a gun with regular bullets and a gun with silver bullets

I'm sure he could press a button to change the ammo the gun uses. Np.

[–]the_whining_beaver 1ポイント2ポイント  (1子コメント)

They don't run out of ammo, jam, and are why more useful at cqc compared to that rifle.

You could hand wave explain it away.

Body armor has gotten so good in the future that most guns are ineffective... So you need to be up close with a dagger or a knife to do any real damage.

Context: This is a mix up between The Witcher, CD PROJEKT RED's most famous RPG series, and their upcoming title Cyberpunk 2077, which people estimate to be released in 2017.

Coming... when it's ready.

I've always wanted to see a release date like this.

It's awesome. They clearly take the time needed to craft awesome worlds when you look at The Witcher, so just putting out some CGI scenes and announcing it as a project should be the way forward when it comes to large scale projects like that.

I've always wanted to see a release date like this.

Well, Duke Nukem Forever's release date was "When it's done". Carmack also used that phrase for the release dates of id's games (where 3D Realms/Apogee picked it from for DNF, although DNF's use was by far the most popular for obvious reasons :-P).

i wish but we've heard no word from cd project since the teaser and they are still busy with the second expansion for tw3 and will switch full time to cyberpunk only after that... i really doubt that they will finish a whole new game in a year... i would expect it somewhere around 2018-9 :/

Mhm, actually most of the team was on Cyberpunk 2077 since W3 release. There was a smaller team on it since about 2012-2013. That is the official statement.

He's just in time for the Great War!

Raiden?

now that you mention it, geralt kinda looks like old snake.

There are no giant spaceships in Cyberpunk, the whole point of it is that we're all still trapped on earth under the thumb of a corporate quasi-autocracy so people become cyberized punks to rebell. (Because the original game was written before whatever+punk just meant crazy technology, it actually meant punk) Other than that, pretty damn sweet.

Not true, you can still have spaceships and interplanetary exploration in a cyberpunk world. Case in point; Blade Runner.

I'm not talking about cyberpunk as a genre, I'm talking about Cyberpunk 2020 the pen and paper game universe, which is what CD Project Red licensed to make Cyberpunk 2077 from.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberpunk_2020

They should have Cyberpunk 2020. A bunch of people on VR headsets, and some basic AR modules. And lots of people on their phones even when driving. Also, a Trump Presidency to spice it up.

Mecha-Trump. Trump is almost killed in an assassination attempt by leftist extremists and is brought back from the brink of death with experimental cyborg augmentation. This is seen as a pinnacle turning point in the advancement of the human race and the merging of man and machine.

Nah, the merging of man and machine has already happened. You're thinking of Cyberpunk 2004 when Cheney gets his 18th secret triple bypass and has a cybernetic heart so he could live long past his actual age, not the age the public thinks he is. People think Cheney sneers all the time but it's just his half-mechanized face showing contempt for the sloshy-wet-meatbag-humans.

A wizard made the giant spaceships.

Now you're thinking Shadowrun, and in Shadowrun the magical potential of any given place is created from living things, meaning there is no magic in space.

Know your roleplay universes! ;)

I was thinking of the Witcher universe.

Purge the Xeno scum

Nice to see they didn't give boob armor to the woman, although it almost looks like her elbow goes all the way down to her waist.

Something about the helmet of the person on the right makes me think of EVE: Valkyrie.

This is kind of what I want from a future or modern day Assassin's Creed

Can't wait for the Cyberpunk game that's being made by the Witcher devs.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7_ZTI1OwCk

Is there any news on cyberpunk

I can't see shit!!!

it looks good but promises to be every bit as shitty as call of duty infinite warfare.

This looks really dope.

So...Destiny armor and ships + Witcher Swords?

Even with guns, they still use swords.

I want to go to there.

May be an unpopular opinion but the only discernable features that relate this to the witcher are the two swords and the medallion, remove them and this could be anything, for example, what is that behind them and who is his companion, Geralt doesn't have travel companions.

Nice piece though

Man, I've always been fascinated by the concept of medieval games remade into futuristic settings. It all started back when there was rumors of a futuristic Zelda game.

I would love for developers to take a traditionally medieval game and give it a futuristic paint job. Even if it's just for one level/dungeon. The mix of medieval and future looks so cool to me.

Geralt of planet Rivia 5.

Geralt is the green arrow?

There should be a subreddit for alternative concept art like this

♫ Black holes living in the side of your face,

♫ Razor wire spinning around your, round your round your round your round your

♫ Bullets are the beauty of the blistering sky,

what does that refer to? i am not hearing a melody when reading that :(

hooded guy with a gun and a spaceship in the background.. how is that witcher exactly?

more like any_fantasy_rpg_title_with_male_lead 2077

Dual swords, school of the wolf medallion. Do you have eyes?

Of course, from what Ciri said it's likely she'll make a cameo in Cyberpunk 2077

Please CDPR make this happen

one thing is for sure. RIP pc.

How are things like that done? Is this made in a 3d program and then polished with photoshop? Or is this completely 2d drawn?

Is that the 'Roach' in Orbit behind him.

It can't be. It isn't stuck on a fence.

Please don't to this CD Red

reminds me of Warframe.

If anyone really likes the concept of the image then I'd recommend checking out E.Y.E Divine Cybermancy

Co-op/Singleplayer source based mod turned game available on steam for around 10 bucks.

Really in depth mechanics for a source mod and it really nails the whole "Cyberpunk Space Samurai" feel.

What is this please?

Is it just an art interpretation or is this for a new game?

Reminds me of Hellgate London.

I just want to know, who the fuck drew this, and HOW they drew it. Because this is absolutely unbecredible.

All I see is Snake and Raiden. ...in the year 2077.

Get closer! I want to hit them with my sword!!!!

Those are some optimistic spaceships for 2077.

Why would you wear armor in the future if they can just shoot you in the face?

[–]Zohso 0

Oh man, make it so, someone more talented than me. lol

That actually looks unreal.

Loving the combination of the two projects here. Looks fantastic, but how would the fantastical world affect space travel?

Does any game or movie happen in 2077?, i'm getting the feeling that something happens in that year.
