Yeah but so is Arsenal and Chelsea's. LvG pioneered the 18 man squad is perfect mentality that Mourinho, Pep etc. subscribe to.

Not everyone's like SAF, Pellerz, Benitez and Klopp that like to burn through players, rotate like mad etc.

A lot of that has to do with keeping possession better, getting early goals and shutting out matches by the 60th min.

2-0 with 30 mins of killing the tempo is way more classic Fergie than the last minute winner, it's the formula to win a league.

I have faith we'll get closer to that this year.

The bigger point, however, is that one injury to Giroud and Arsenal have no striker. One injury to Costa and Chelsea have to rely on Falcao.

We're doing ok depth wise compared to most teams.

this is quite a realisitc scenario, except for us winning a domestic cup, that just never seems to work even if we get the easiest ties! I can believe the CL scenario because we always seem to do better in that competition (Moyes last to last season) and especially if we get an easy team in the round of 16 and a team like PSG in the quarters, that would be awesome.

Last year's one was so wrong except for the top comment lol. Jose getting fired, us finishing second, Kagawa getting 10+ assists, Wenger getting fired haha some got it really wrong.

Alright I'll give it a go. Mark my words, we'll finish 3rd, get to the quarters of the CL but not win any domestic cups. They'll be A LOT of tension on this sub come the end of the season, some calling for LVG's head and some wanting to give him another season to win silverware...

I think you both will be right to some extent. We'll either do well and you'll be right, or we'll continue to play boring football and lose to teams we should do better against and there will be lots of concerns surrounding LVG. But even then I don't think he'll be sacked. At least not this season.

I think he has a lot of clout and gravitas throughout the club, and he's established that what he has in mind is a long term plan, and the process will take time.

I think 20 goals in all competitions for Rooney playing as our only striker would be bang average at best (especially since he seems to be undroppable, it would probably come up to something like a goal every other game or possibly less than that)... Costa got 21 in all competitions but 20 of the 21 were league goals, I guess I would take that from Rooney (cause 20 league goals I would definitely see as a success), but 0 goals from 7 games in CL would be very poor (idk why Costa's is so low, maybe it has something to do with Mou parking the bus in Europe?).

But I guess is too early to tell, if Rooney goes on to play as a 10 and gets 20 goals in all competitions but also 10 assists then those would obviously be strong numbers. If he plays as the only striker and the way he's been playing so far all season (ie., not offering much too the team in any other areas) and gets 20 goals in all competitions I would be left feeling a bit disappointed...

yeah my bad I edited it now. I meant 'he' not 'we.' 20 goals in all competitions is not that impressive for a player of the caliber of Rooney. He's supposed to be an elite player, Aguero got 30 goals in all competitions on his first season ever in the PL... same for Suarez in his last two for liverpool, etc. 20 goals a season in all competitions your are talking about your Girouds, your Bentekes, your Lukakus.

I agree. Because of the nature of this thread "mark my words" I thought OP's prediction wasn't that far off the mark that's why I asked him. It would be like saying "mark my words, Netherlands will beat Iceland today" well... yeah that's likely...

I don't think Rooney is as good as Aguero or Suarez anymore either, but the nature of the thread is that you go against the general consensus. Most people think Rooney is a world class striker that would easily deliver 20+ goals if he's played as a striker (at least that was before the season started, a lot of ppl were very confident about 20+ league goals, not even all competitions). I wouldn't put my money on Rooney getting 20+ league goals, but all competitions? that's not a stretch at all, that's why I asked OP what he meant because his bold prediction seemed rather tamed.

Romero was only signed because he was a free agent. There is no way any club is letting their number 1 (or even no 2) keeper go in the January window, "surprise" or not.

The only club that will would be Real because they know they will get DDG in return.

I've been a longtime reader of this sub and haven't really commented, but I like this - I like what's going on here. Mark my words, this year will go down almost exactly as last year did for us - with some improvement showing heavily at the end of the year. I think we'll finish 2nd by the skin of our teeth with City taking the league quite easily after they shit the bed in CL. We'll make a strong run in the CL and the domestic cups, but barely miss out on silverware across the board. BUT we'll retain a vast majority of our players who will know the system like the back of their hands and just dominate 2016/2017 - take the League, a domestic cup, and semis or finals of the CL.

MMW: If after Euro 2016, Gary Neville isn't appointed as the next England manager, he'll be surprisingly given the nod over Ryan Giggs as next Manchester United manager when Van Gaal calls time on his career a year earlier than expected. Giggs will be asked to stay on, but will ultimately move... only to come back some years later and be, along with Neville, the first co-managers at a major European-based club. Mark my words we'll win the league. We'll scrape boring 1 goal victories in most of the games, but in others we'll see the philosophy in all of its glory (against top teams). We however would be knocked out of the CL in last 16 rather unfairly. No other trophies apart from PL and there will be no outstanding performers, just 11 players carrying out the assigned tasks.
