I think his decision might've depended on our mangerial situation and I think Mourinho coming in only improve our chances.

As much as I want Berta, I remain infinitely more skeptical about this link.

As of now, there's 3 parties inside United who influence money spent on football. Mourinho, Ed, Glazers.

Ed/Glazers are the majority, so they can quite literally cut costs willy nilly and don't care that much about the footballing side.

A DOF, and one especially as good as Berta is about spending the money of the club in expansionary footballing matters, as well as overlooking other matters, but his job is to employ something as close to the "United Way" as humanly possible.

TLDR; Berta disrupts the balance of power which Glazers like in regard to money. Cons outweigh pros for them in my opinion, so I doubt it. If the Glazers go for a DOF, he's likely another Woodward puppet, just so they can really crumble any outside influence.

But he's successful without spending all that much money. The board would like that. Businessmen don't hire people solely based in their motivations. It's more about their output.

From Berta's own personal perspective, he would have to know what he's getting himself in to here. Behind the scenes it's an utter mess and we all know that.

The Glazers don't want to have to spend more than a single penny to make their money, it's a business for them, not a football club.

The only hope is that Woodward is able to convince them that this guy is absolutely necessary.

I've been wondering the same. Last we heard was Di Marzio saying he would decide by Easter, but there's been nothing since.

Andy Mitten recently gave an interview where he said he asked Woodward about a possible DOF and Woodward responded by saying United doesn't like that model of running a club. Woodward said the club likes to give all the power to the manager and that is why they have stuck with the model they currently use.

A DoF with Mourinho would just be flushing money down the drain. He has a history of throwing a fit when players a DoF buys aren't players he wants and freezes them out.

A DoF would only have made sense if we were appointing a certain type of manager while also implementing a long term style. Jose isn't that right kind of manager to make a DoF work and certainly isn't a manager you appoint with a view of putting in place a long term style

Well Easter is long gone so apparently not.

He's a mendes client iirc so things could always change though.
