LvG turned down Tottenham when ManU showed interest - was Tottenham maybe more suitable for his style of management and maybe lower expectations than ManU. (self.reddevils)

Tottenham aim for CL qualification, even without qualification , I dont think he would have been under massive pressure like Man U. Maybe that was the better option for him, he gets both the english league experience without the "other issues" of managing a super club like Man U.

That's because Poch has given them more than they're used to. If they could go back 2 years and choose between the two they would have chosen van Gaal, in the same way we would have chosen Mourinho instead of van Gaal. But it's all in hindsight so why the fuck does it matter now.

If you think the pressure got to LVG, let me stop you right there. This man has quite literally gone through it all, he can handle the pressure, especially with his nice 20 million pound paycheck from the club. He managed Barcelona, the mother of all "super clubs", and Bayern, it's long lost cousin.

Spurs would have absolutely been a better fit because he would have achieved the same with them. Similar squad, and for them it's good enough.

I agree with you. Thing is from day one he seemed to grumble about the pre-season arrangements, transfer prices etc etc. I dont think the club experienced a huge change in its operations/arrangements after fergie left. He sometimes sounded like he never really grasped what it takes to be the Manager of ManU.

No, you don't agree with me. This man expects perfection, that is the expectation for Man U. He grumbled about these things because they are valid things to grumble about, every single manager wants better players and to have preseason be shorter. You think Mourinho won't grumble about not getting a player? He does it all the fucking time.

This guy grasped what it takes to be the manager of Man U. Man U isn't some holier than thou club, if he can do it at Barcelona, Bayern, overachieve with a national team the man can handle the pressure and expectations. He simply did not this time.

Maybe you're right, he would have been able to fly under the radar a bit more and not having people like Scholes and Rio sniping at him.

But then again in not sure whether the British contingency at Spurs would have bought into his philosophy, which by and large was at odds with the core British seniors at United.

Tottenham has better players than ours this season and they are actually players van gaal really wanted: Someone who can really finish (kane), quick wingbacks (walker, rose), proven solid center backs and some high quality youngsters (alli, dier). (while don't get me started on how many holes and weak links in our team) If van gaal could bring this manutd team to fifth and only lost out fourth to goal difference, it is reasonable to expect he can get at least one more point for the fourth.

Though I don't wanna imagine if we couldn't get van gaal back then, who could we get realistically. That complete meltdown at the end of the season at Tottenham make me wonder if pochettino would be the better choice.

If it wasn't mourinho who got fired and is available since winter but pochettino instead(assume he did just as well as Tottenham did and only left because of personal reasons), van gaal would probably get one more year.

With his man management record, there is a real chance some of those players would have not performed as well as they did under Poch. For every Chris Smalling kind of improvement, there is a Di Maria, RvP who was shunned out.
