Did Van Gaal have a transfer target list when he came into the club? (self.reddevils)

I remember we signed Di Maria and Falcao which weren't in his plans. There are already rumours of a set list of targets that Mourinho wants, and I don't remember anything like that with Moyes or Van Gaal. Is this just because Mourinho is far more proactive with his dealings and feels that making his list public will improve the chances of it being successful. It really seemed like our transfer windows over the last three years have been chaos, with the club setting stupid targets like Neymar, Bale, Ramos but nothing realistic. And the players we did sign were kept completely under wraps until announced. Is it just different styles in play?

Every manager has their own wishlist, but not every manager gets to sign the players he wants. There are too many factors involved, be it whether the player is open to moving abroad from his current club, the transfer fee to be negotiated, the role offered to the player and the list goes on.

Bear in mind just because the media is saying Mourinho has a wishlist of say Stones, Varane, Ibrahimovic and more doesn't mean we will get them. Everyone was so sure Renato Sanches was coming due to connections between Jorge Mendes and Mourinho and poof, he's already went off to Bayern.

Also- the wish list could well be based off last season for Mourinho instead as he's been out of a job for sometime for them to not know anyway now who he thinks suit us more etc.

Mourinho probably has a more defined list than LvG as he has been aware that the job might be his from December. Moyes and LvG will probably have had their targets aswell
