My bud didn't know about the game until open beta came out, we played a bit and he loved it and was very excited for the release. He was hospitalized the week after the beta ended from a severe staph infection and passed away just this Friday. It's very unfortunate that he didn't get to experience the game he was so excited for. I'm glad some people are recognizing the possibility and how unfortunate this circumstance is.

We're all soldiers now, some of us are just stationed at different places... Our Onlywatch is almost over, his watch will never end. You know why? Because he's up there, playing in bastion free servers. Reaping as much as he can sow, i'm betting it's A-Mei-zing.

Good luck zakeero. With everything, see you on the battlefield o/

I hate stuff like this. I've felt moderately shitty since about late January or early February and I'm so damn paranoid it's something severe. I've never felt bad for this long as far as I can remember.

I have... Three fucking times. First it was gastroenteritis, then upper respiratory infection, then possible signs of GERD. Now I don't feel awful or anything but the tip of my tongue feels raw, my throat always has a tickle to it, the back of my throat is pretty red and one tonsil looks swollen. Also, my fucking left eye keeps twitching which could be allergies I guess... I dunno, it's a bunch of little stuff but it has persisted for months.

Edit: oh, and the other day I had a damn horrid sore throat that lasted for 3 damn days. I ate lozenges like it was plain hard candy.

Sounds like health anxiety my friend. I have suffered bouts of it my whole life - I am on top of it now, but i have had 3 prolonged periods of my life where it absolutely destroyed me. It is a mental illness and you should talk to someone. I have lived with it so long that i can even tell in typing when people are suffering from it. The way you listed all the problems that you have/had show that you are prone to checking over your physical condition constantly and monitoring it. Doing so heightens anxiety even more causing the physical symptoms you are experiencing and physical sensations that you think are something sinister

Your eye twitching is a result of stress - tension and anxiety. Mine still does it. Your gerd is a result of anxiety - being anxious causes your fight of flight mode to activate - which in turn causes your stomach acids and adrenaline kick in. All your symptoms are related to extremem anxiety. i also imagine you devote alot of time to searching for symptoms on the internet - this should never be done as all search results will instantly come up with cancer - heightening your anxiety even more. Even if you search headache it will come up with cancer - and a headache is an everyday occurance. Get some help buddy

[–]nodnarbiterThis town ain't big 'nough fer the two of us

Ah, shit. I was afraid of this. I have been looking up my symptoms and running my physical condition through my head everyday. Even the slightest mention of cancer after a Google search makes my stomach sink and my breathing heavy. I don't need to talk to anyone though. If I focus on it being in my head I can normally get over it. Actually how I conquered my fear of the dark and separation anxiety. I'll definitely seek help if I can't shake it though. Thanks man.

Talk to someone. Admitting you need help is the first step in correcting the problem.

[–]nodnarbiterThis town ain't big 'nough fer the two of us

I'm currently broke as fuck, can't even afford Overwatch tomorrow, so I certainly can't afford professional help. I could barely afford the copay for my doctor visits. I'll just have to smile and deal with it.

I'd suggest having a vent over on /r/anxiety. It's not professional help, but you'll find a lot of people suffer from the same kind of things and will normally offer advice. Hope things start getting better sooner rather than later friendo!

If you qualify there are many local state funded mental health places. I go to Centerstone in Tennessee and have a therapist, psychologist, and a case worker for free. They can set you up with medicine as cheap as $4. I was afraid for years of going to a place like that but it has actually helped me immensely over the past 6 months. Very grateful for it.

Never, EVER self diagnose. Unless it's something truly horrible you are going to get really really vague answers. It raises anxiety way too high.

Self-diagnosis is fine for a lot of mental illnesses, because the root cause of the illness doesn't matter to the diagnosis, and it won't kill you or get worse on its own. Knowing you have a mental illness won't make you any more anxious than having it in the first place. Physical illnesses, though, I'd recommend just seeing a doctor.

I know someone quite close to me who is a hypochondriac, they know they have a problem but just don't know how to fix it, all I can do is just try be there for them but it can be tough. If I may ask, how did you manage to overcome it? Did you go and speak to someone? Is there anything you could suggest which helped you?

When i was at my worst i knew i had a problem. I have such a knowledge on it - and know everything to combat it that i almost sound like a professional when talking about it. Even so, when it has you it is hard to escape its grasp. My last 2 major episodes were cured with a shift of focus. I was to become a father and i realized how selfish i was being and it just sort of faded when i began focusing on my daughter. The last bout i had was around 2 years ago. It was triggered by a real life testicular cancer scare (i found a lump) teh extreme anxiety i faced waiting for the tests (can take upto a month) spiraled me straight back to my worst days. I suffered this episode for around 10 months. I tried CBT for the first time - it actually helped (Cognitive behavioural therapy is a talking therapy that can help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave)

I would recommend your friend trying this - it is a daunting feeling going into it because it is very personal and consumes your life. Thats where i started to get a grip on it though as actually talking to someone about it and explaining exactly what your thought process is makes you realize how stupid it sounds when you are listening to yourself.

Sadly the final kick that helped me finish off my last episode was my 11 year old step son being diagnosed with osteosarcoma (bone cancer). I felt absolutely ashamed with myself that i had spent all that time worrying about myself when people in the world like my stepson were actually fighting real terminal illnesses.

Thankfully my stepson had surgery to remove his leg and after chemo he is now in remission and doing great. I can sometimes still feel it lurking inside me - but i now have the life experience and knowledge to keep it there - almost dormant. It takes time and alot of emotional stess, but it is a fight anybody can win

I'd say allergies are the cause of a lot of your current issues. Throat irritation, eye watering / twitching and general sinus issues tend to hit me this time of year. I'll go for like 3 weeks straight thinking "shit...I'm getting sick", but I never get sick, it's just allergies giving me similar symptoms.

Another thing to consider is getting your place tested for black mold. That stuff can be pretty aggressive and cause some issues.

The other reply here saying "It's gluten" got downvoted, presumably for being terse and not super helpful, but I would actually put in my two cents and say it would be worth doing some investigating about food allergies. Your symptoms sound a lot like what my health was like years ago before discovering I was allergic to a couple different kinds of food. If financials are a concern like you mentioned, you could opt to do an elimination diet instead of paying for a test at a clinic. You have to be scientific about the process, but it's pretty effective at identifying foods that might be triggering a negative reaction in your health.

9 million player open beta, statistically, not all of us are gonna make it.

Based on the mortality rate of the entire world about 30 of the beta players won't make it. But because most of the players are from developed countries and are still relatively young (~15-30) I'd say we have a significantly better chance of survival.

I think the beta was played in 190~ countries, I imagine a lot of developing countries are included then, even though it's a small portino of the player base overall.

[–]Ive_Gone_HollowMEDIOCRE 5ポイント6ポイント  (0子コメント)

Not to mention that not everyone who participated in the beta bought the game.

Shit, even if it were 9 million upper class Japanese people not everyone out of 9 million would make it surely :(

[–]SqueakumsPLAY OF THE GAME 0

There's also that "190 different countries" bit. I live in the murder capital of the world, and a ton of people are buying the game here. We can't make any assumptions about how big of a percentage people in this situation represent, but we can't dismiss them entirely either.

I mean, I doubt the 9 million players who played the free open beta will be buying the game. Still, you are right, some of us will never get to play the game again.

He committed suicide just before Minecraft hit for the Xbox and I always wondered what he would have built or how much fun he would have had. I miss him.

Seriously, it's a damn game, how is this even remotely worth mentioning in relation to someone dying?
"Oh my friend passed away, and now he/she doesn't get to play Overwatch, so sad :("
And yes, I understand that they're not sad because they don't get to play, but it shouldn't even be a reason!

Read some of the comments in this thread, some of them are downright scary..

My absolute best friend gets off work in a few hours. He has an hour and a half drive home. I always worry when he gets off work, as he's been in a few accidents. We already have a memorial in Kings Row for our fallen heroes. Granted it is Mondatta, but his ideal is sort of what we all are striving for. "We are all one within the Iris".

Aw man, that reminds me of the girl who wanted to see Pixar's UP. If I remember correctly she was about 10 years old and very sick, her dying wish was to watch UP. By the time Pixar brought it to her to watch she couldn't see anymore so her mom had to describe the scenes to her. She passed away a few hours later. So damn sad.

I think about this stuff all the time too. Whenever I'm excited about something that has yet to be released, one of my thoughts is: "I hope I make it!"

Last night I was looking at the number of subscribers on this sub, and I was thinking about how many didn't make it. 218,000 subscribers means that every day, almost 600 years of life are lived by subscribers of this sub alone.

[–]MedenutcrackaExperience Tranquility[S] 0

There's a vocal minority of people in here calling it morbid and strange to think about stuff like this, I think it's interesting

This will probably get down voted... but fuck this. If I died before a game I was looking forward too I wouldn't want to be remembered in a thread like this. Not unless I was a developer or content creator or something. You people don't know me and the only thing we might have in common is us both liking a game. This just seems like a massive karma grab. I'm not trying to disrespect the dead, but unless their lives revolved around overwatch, this isn't the place for their memorial.

[–]MedenutcrackaExperience Tranquility[S] 4

You don't get karma for self posts

You get reply karma. You can see it in RES. Either way it just feels like an attention grab

[–]MedenutcrackaExperience Tranquility[S] 2

Attention doesn't mean anything when you're anonymous on the internet. No need to assume everyone has bad intentions

That isn't true. Your user name is your identifier just as much as your name, and people can have personal pride that they made a "good post" based on up votes. An example would be YouTubers who don't show their face or personal information. They still have a user name, they aren't anonymous.

Either way this isn't the point. This is just random people we are talking about who may have anticipated a game. Thousands die every day because they anticipate clean water. If my life is so uneventful and lonely that the only people to mourn my death are random internet users who don't know me then I have lived a sad sad life.

Sure if I LOVED the game put a piece of it at my funeral, but an obscure thread on a random website with people that don't know me?

[–]MedenutcrackaExperience Tranquility[S] 1

Don't know why you're acting like its a cardinal sin to pay respects to people in our community who didn't make it to see the game release, but to each their own

Overwatch is a big deal for a lot of us and some people didn't get to enjoy what they had been excited about for so long. We aren't prioritizing anything, just saying it's a shame

It's like dying before sex. Actually putting sex in this sentence works fine too.

I am sure that the heroes we have lost on our way are having the time of their lives in the afterlife with Prince and David Bowie. While their watch has never gotten the chance to start, we can, in their chances, start our watches and kill more Bastions for those we have lost.

Ok i stop read this topic right now. I dont want to be sad during one billion years. May the dead rest in peace, and the others live a good life.

Stupid fucking post. OP is a shitlord with an uninteresting life if this is the drawback to dying. A game.
