Future of Wilson..What do you think of him as RW? (self.reddevils)

Probably not the right time to post it; But considering that we are close to getting Zlatan and have Martial and Rashford at the club, Wilson might not get enough chances as a striker.

In spite of having an average season, he is one of the best young players we have currently.He might not be a RVN type of striker but he has a lot of pace, take on defenders and an eye for a goal. Recently most of the wingers are more of wide forwards than traditional wingers, do you guys think Wilson could be a good option on the right wing? He can cut in and attack the CB-LB channel and the RB( Valencia) can go wide and cross.

Yeah i think Rashfords rise has killed any chance of him getting in the team.

Be happy to see him out on loan again though rather then sell him.

I was annoyed when he was let out on loan back when we only really had Martial, Rooney and him up front but with the emergence of Rashford and the possible signing of Ibra I'd have to agree with you.

Wilson is done.

Can you elaborate? He is 20 years old. Was one of the main players in the U-21 title run last year. He is very good at running at defenders and has shown the capability to take the ball in midfield and score/assist.

He wasn't good enough in the league when he played as a substitute in many games, he would drift out and get out muscled on the ball. He had that good debut against Hull but haven't shown anything special to be considered despite his age and his experience in U21s. Also, just because someone plays well in U21s doesn't mean they can be good enough for the first team. Januzaj was banging in goals when dropped to U21s but then would play poorly in the league. I know Wilson is young, but there are way way better players we can get as a winger. With Zlatan being rumoured to come in, and Rashford shinning, I could see why /u/mufctez says he's done.

5 goals in 29 games this season and 2 in 17 last season. He just hasn't shown he's got enough at this level. Not just in goal scoring but general play as well.

Honestly, it's just a gut feeling.

We're crying out for a world class RW as it is, I can't see him being tested out there.

Also, he was sent out on loan whilst a younger player (Rashford) stepped up and impressed. As I see it, if Ibra comes in (that's an IF) then Rashford will play less next season. We'll have 4 strikers to choose from in Ibra, Rooney, Martial and Rashford. Knowing Mourinho (if he is indeed coming) he could well sign another striker - he may not rate Rashford at all, for all we know.

I just don't think things look good for Wilson - this would have been a good year for him to try prove himself, but despite how thin we were as a squad, he still found himself on loan at another club.

I would find this hard to believe, his talent is evident to everyone who has watched him and no doubt Jose has been keeping a close eye.

I'd be genuinely gutted if he wasn't developed properly with regular 1st team football after his emergence.

I agree that this is probably it for Wilson.

I think it's unlikely that he won't rate him - but we really have no idea what his plans would be for any player in the squad.

My biggest fear with Jose coming is that our young players won't be developed properly. I hope the club have iterated the importance of this, it's in our blood.

I agree with most of what you say. It sure looks bleak for him as a striker trying to come into the team. Which is why I was thinking that the wing would be a good place for him. Even though he was a striker, he wasn't that good at positioning and poaching. What he is good at is running from the deep and using his pace, which would be suitable for a winger. Also, if he wasn't injured during the crisis, he would have been recalled from loan by LVG rather than give Rashford a chance.

Having said that, I'm not sure if Mourinho would even consider any youth player currently not listed in the first team,even for rotation.

I honestly don't think he has what it takes to establish himself at United, especially not with the player we would bring in if/when Mourinho is appointed. I know we are all sentimental towards him having come up through the ranks at United but i think its time we let him go.

I was thinking he would wither be sent on a loan or could be played at rw. He has a contract with us till 2019, with an option to extend. There is no point letting him go when he is barely 20 and has 3 years left on his contract.

He wasn't good enough when he played as a striker, not strong enough. I don't think I've seen anything that makes me think he can be a wide player, plus we have Mata, Lingard and Memphis to play in those positions.

The last time he played striker, he was 19. No reason to believe he wouldn't be strong enough. As far as I remember, he wasn't really getting pushed around. Also, I'm not sure Mourinho prefers someone like Mata at right wing and Memphis plays on the left.

Rashford at the same age, even younger was stronger on the ball than Wilson was then. And yes, he was weak as hell on the ball, one of the main things I remember about him when he played in the league. And you think he would prefer Wilson on the wing over Mata and Lingard?

Im not sure about Lingard, but I think he wouldnt play Mata on the wing. Also, why is being stronger on the ball the only criterion for judging the player , especially when we are looking at different positions? I was thinking Rashford would be a backup striker and Wilson to be a backup winger for hopefully a new purchase.

I agree that Mata wouldn't start, but if we get a player x. Mata and Lingard would be behind him. Both have done enough to keep them as a backup player, Lingard especially. Being strong on the ball is incredibly important if one has to play in the league, despite all other facets of Wilson's game, he was considerably weak on the ball, plus he just isn't that good enough to be a winger. His best option would be to play as a striker, if we get Zlatan. He then will be fourth/fifth choice as a striker behind Zlatan, Rashford, Martial and maybe Rooney. I don't think he's done enough to warrant a place in the team and don't think he will be in Mourinho's side (not even the bench), again that's my opinion, not a fact. I just can't see it for him at United.

Can't help but laugh at these people saying he's done. A young striker coming off a successful loan and still one of the worlds top young strikers.

The problem for him is not any senior strikers, but Rashford taking up that youth rotation option - in a handful of games Rashford has absolutely killed it.
