Yes you should. There are a lot of games that will run well on a Mac, and they are great computers. Diablo, WoW, Bioshock Infinite, etc. all run quite well on the Intel integrated graphics - which have gotten more powerful in the past years. Lower end games run fine.

Go look at iMac specs right now and then look at the price.

Come back and tell me with a straight face that that is good value.

There might be reasons why one buys an iMac, but good value for performance? No god damn chance.

And don't even start me on the price for selecting better components. $200 for a 8GB stick of ram, that's not even bad value, that's straight up robbery.

Edit: I just looked up the price for the 32GB DDR3 SDRAM upgrade for the 27" model.

Obviously. But the OP just asked if an iMac would run those games. Which it would. And I was telling him it will run a lot of games, which it will.

Of course PCs play games better and are cheaper. Any idiot knows that, but thanks for telling us. There are still lots of reasons to pick Macs over PCs, it just depends on what you want it for. Did the OP ask for the cheapest gaming PC? No, he just asked if an iMac can run Don't Starve and terraria. I have a feeling you don't know much about macs - based on your response.

The OP didn't ask what is the best value for gaming - obviously there are some reasons he is considering a Mac.

He didn't ask if an iMac would run those games, he literally asked if 'Should I buy An iMac'.

I didn't even tell OP not to buy a Mac in general, we're talking about an iMac, which is brutally overpriced for what it is, brutally overpriced.

Macs are more expensive. So what? Why are you so stuck on the price? No one but you brought this up.

Can you recommend a cheaper Mac? Or are you just saying randomly that no one should buy a Mac? because they are all "brutally overpriced"? What is his cheaper option if he needs to buy a Mac?

OP provided absolutely no info on why or what he wants an iMac for, beyond that he also plays simple games. You don't even know if he wants a Mac for the sake of it being a Mac.

So yes, there could be cheaper/better alternatives.

But if the question is a simple, 'should I buy an iMac', then no, he shouldn't. There is hardly any point in getting an iMac beyond the form factor and even that's debatable, as MacBooks are then arguably better with a dedicated monitor, as you have portability too, when needed/wanted. An iMac is literally an overpriced stationary laptop with a 'larger screen'.

If there is a question to buy X and it's quite obvious of how bad of a value it is, it's an extremely valid point.

You are not making any sense. You think buying a MacBook and a monitor is a better option, when you are arguing about value? That will be pretty pricy also. Plus he might not want a laptop.

Anyway, let's drop it. IMO if he needs or wants a Mac, an iMac is a decent option. You can disagree. And we can agree he can get better value in a PC if he wanted a PC instead.

You are not making any sense. You think buying a MacBook and a monitor is a better option, when you are arguing about value? And you are assuming he wants a laptop.

It is a better value because at least you're getting the ability to be portable, while still retaining the overall slim form factor (There are vertical laptop/MacBook stands). An iMac is literally a weak laptop internally that you can't be portable with.

Unless one has a very specific reason of why one wants an iMac and value isn't a concern, it's pointless to buy an iMac, no matter how much money one has.

OP's question was stupid and too vague in the first place.
