Hi all, to help us mods keep things as tidy as we can, from this moment on we'll enact the same rules as we do with Transfers. Only official United responses are allowed as link submissions from here on out.

Edit: the rule has been slightly relaxed, but only top sources may be posted at this time. Consult the wiki reliability guide if you need to see where they measure up.

[–]Crusty_Gammon_Flaps 3ポイント4ポイント  (5子コメント)

Imagine if we announce Jose and then in the same day we announce 3 player signings including Zlatan. That would be mental.

So who would the other 2 be?

James Rodriguez and Bebe

I want Bebe and the next 2 Bebe-s

Messi and Ronaldo, obviously

Where does that leave Neymar?

I think I would explode if we end this week with Mourinho as manager and Zlatan as our first signing of the summer.

I think Zlatan is worth a gamble but we may want to tone down our expectations a bit. I'm going for cautious optimism.

Warren Joyce is trending on Twitter, apparently he's been approached for the Blackburn job...

Not like this :(

I just feel horrible right now. Feel like crying. Just watched LVG's last news conference and its absolutely horrendous how this has been handled. I agree after failing to get top 4, he had to go but the fact that he got us our first major cup after SAF should not be underestimated. He's leaving a legacy behind and will forever play an important figure in our history. If Shaw, Martial, Memphis, Rashford, CBJ, TFM, all come good it should always be remembered that it was LVG who gave them their first games!

Smalling (apart from City game and Saturday's game) has been excellent and this has been due to LVG.

Thank you LVG! Now let's get on this Mourinho train!!!

Is there like a stream of the announcement or are we just waiting for a tweet/article on manutd site?

Waiting for official confirmation by united. It will be updated on their website and Twitter.

Now I really can't wait for the next season. Hope a lot of signings will be made.

I am happy he will not be our manager this year, but still it is sad when someone gets the sack. Loved Louis, didn't love his football. I won't say anything about Mourinho until after he's had a chance to show his stuff at United.

Goodbye Louis!

LVG and staff furious with this they genuinely thought they had next season and were planning for it

I would understand if LVG were furious about the timing of his sacking. However, to be furious because he isn't getting his final contracted year, after a terrible season, is naive.

Fulltimedevils:

We're being told the club statement at 1pm will say mutual consent or words to that effect, and also that the club are trying to keep Giggs

So im guessing they'll be no announcment of Mou as manager till mendes flies in tomorrow?

At this rate no announcement until Mendes tells the club that they're allowed to. Seems he's in full control.

Muhuhuh, if Football Manager 2016 is anything to go by, the Dutch contingent (Hoek aside) is awful and shouldn't be at the club anyway! =p

Van Gall out? Good.

Mou in? Great.

Giggsy gone? Bad. Hopefully he'll take up a management job and excel at it and by the time Mourinho screws up in about 5-30 years, he'll be ready to replace him.

Can't quite believe Giggsy is finally not going to be part of the club. Hope he goes earns his stripes elsewhere and comes back eventually.

Why are we unable to keep this out of the press when we have an announcement coming up? This is an absolute shambles - and whilst it was LVG's time to go as far as I'm concerned, we should really have the class to make a decision, then make a statement instead of this horrific bukake of different information all over the waiting journalists, who can't seem to get the journalistic jizz out of their eyes before gleefully uploading their 'exclusive'.

It was the same with Moyes. Kinda feel sorry for them as it seems the media know they're sacked before the managers actually know themselves.

Its because were such a massive club. The press is obsessed with us, and especially this managerial situation because it sells so many papers/clicks - which is why this circus has being going on for months now.

Short of sacking LVG in december I'm not sure what else the club could do. We're not even half way through the first working day since winning the FA cup, so if LVG is getting canned today its hardly like we've sat on our hands and let him stew.

The rest is just Mendes and the press running their mouths which is out of the club's control.

I don't think we can blame this on Mendes. Maybe all the shit over the last few months, but the fact that everyone knows about this before the club's official announcement lies squarely on Ed's shoulders. Why on earth would Mendes benefit by calling up the journos 2 hours before the announcement?

Mendes benefits by appearing to be the one in control, its a power play.

Is there really someone who watched us play all season and is against the sack?

Yes. I've been against the sack and especially against the sack when learning who would be replacing him.

I'd have been much happier if it was Guardiola for example, and could even understand that terminating Van Gaal would be regardless of his tenure or United status - we couldn't afford to miss out based on the timing of him leaving Bayern this season. Guardiola would keep us playing pure football. We completely lack in the final 1/3rd which is understandable based on whos on the pitch, and both him & Van Gaal would be better this next season given they would have further recruited creative forwards, wide players & the final position CB. We'd be flying next season in either scenario.

But no. Might as well say good bye to the following: Fosu Mensah, Mata, CamboJack, Lingard, Verela, Wilson (was never here), Januzai... Rashford will stay and be the 'example of following Utd Traditions' - whilst effectively replacing Lingard on the wing when he makes way for the striker Mourinho wants - whether thats Zlatan or other.

He'll hire a destroyer who won't do very much footballing so say good bye with regards to how United develop their ball playing ability from the back. This player, even if he drops in between the two center backs won't be good enough to withstand a press and he'll be passing back to De Gea more than any other pass.

This also means our CB's will no longer have license to freely carry the ball forward out of the back effectively cutting out much of the simplest ways of advancing into the last 1/3rd of the pitch.

Success isn't guaranteed even with him. United couldn't get the transfers needed for Van Gaal - no top talent, no top defender, and ones that he did get (Falcao/Di Maria) were complete mistakes not related to Van Gaal. Will Glazers/Woodward break the bank for Mourinho? He certainly needs to be able to spend £100m if he wants the team HE wants. He'll want his own defensive midfielders, striker, winger to replace Mata, and perhaps two experienced defenders. That's a lot of money.

If he can't get them, then he'll be struggling to employ 'his philosophy', we'll struggle to play a new system, United will struggle to get top 4 again and yet another manager will have his reputation tarnished.

On balance of that point, Mendez might now allow top talent on his books to join our club instead of the other top clubs. But that's a big if. Normally we only receive said players if they are a teenager, or after Real/Bayern/Barcelona has finished with them.

I'm not against the sack but I'm not too keen that Mourinho is the replacement.

If you could have any current manager in the world, who would you choose?

Who's the alternative?

If we only look at the result against top teams, I'd be against it.

But after watching our gameplay, I'd say we need someone better.

I feel he is our Master Roshi, its time to move to a new trainer.

I'm against the fact that we've sacked 2 managers in 3 years. This isn't the Manchester United that I know. And I'm really hoping that we don't turn into Madrid in where we're sacking managers left right and centre.

We hired 1 manager who was unsuitable for the job and the other was out of contract at the end of next season anyway. You have to understand that Fergie was a once in a lifetime thing.

I'm not supporting either of our previous managers.

I'm saying that it's unacceptable to have had 2 consecutive under-performing managers.

So are you saying that you think we should have done a better job in picking a manager and getting in the right players? What's the solution if the club gets that part wrong though? I'd prefer to not have a carousel of managers, but I also wouldn't be ok with poor performances and not competing for the title for more than a couple seasons. I know that sounds spoiled, but we have been spoiled.

There's a difference. Madrid sack managers when they've won the league. We've made two appointments that were, for whatever reasons, not working out. It's absolutely the right decision to sack in that case. You don't persist with failure because it doesn't feel nice to do something about it. Utd sacked plenty of managers in between Busby and SAF, why don't fans realise this?

Because most fans were not alive before that and not bothered to learn the history probably.

Ahhh I get it now, all the proper reds on here who talk about the Utd Way have no idea what happened at the club prior to 1992. If they think the club is run poorly now! One of our managers was having an affair with the bus drivers wife ffs!

I don't think it's that people are against it, but for me the way all this came out within minutes of winning the FA Cup and completely over shrouded the achievement is disgusting and a huge lack of respect towards LVG. I would feel the same whoever it was who had to be grilled by the press about it in an FA Cup win press conference

Totally agree. We should havr announced it sooner and make it great goodbye party. But it could shift focus of manager and players before match and in the end, feelings aside, noone is bogger than club. And mendez fucked it up, thats true

I finally got that hate in the game vs Bournemouth, when I'm watching from home I can distract myself with reddit etc.

When i was at the game tho i couldn't do anything and was so bored first half it was unreal.

I have a season ticket next year and am much happier going to see a Mourinho team than a Van Gaal team

Can we just take the time to digest the fact that Giggs will be leaving after 29 years here.

Mourinho has, in the past, brought in people who know the club to work alongside him. If not Giggs, who do we think he'll target? I mentioned Scholsey in another post, but I could see one of the Nevilles coming back. Having said that, Nicky Butt is still there, so maybe Mourinho will see him as sufficient.

I don't think Giggsy is a lost cause either. The stories coming out now are basically saying he had no influence over LvG and did very little other than run a few training sessions. So maybe much of the criticism of this season will escape him.

It hurts. No doubt. But he will be back.

I sure hope so. Hopefully he can take over somewhere, do exceedingly well, and come back to United and be Fergie 2.0

[–]allyallmfersneed___Schweinsteiger 0ポイント1ポイント  (1子コメント)

Leaks to the press and pressers about the players being unhappy on the eve of his dismissal.

They took a situation where is just made sense to release him and made him a sympathetic figure by trying to make him look like the bad guy in this.

Do you really think the club leaked that info? After staying quiet for so long?

It was clearly Mendes, he's known for it.

[–]BadAthMOFOViva Ronaldo! 8

I really don't want to see Giggsy leave.

You need to be one of the very best managers in the world to be good enough to manage United. It's time for Giggs to go and prove that he is that. If he's good enough, he'll be welcome back as manager one day. And if he isn't, some role at the club, coaching or ambassador or whatever, will presumably always be there for him if he wants it.

He was an amazing player but if he really wants to do what is best for himself and the club, he will go prove himself elsewhere.

If he's good enough, there will be many years for him to come back and manage the team.

I do. I don't like the idea of forcing Giggs on to a manager just because it's the ideal dream of him one day managing us to success.

Could be better for him to experience another club's management and get some top man experience. Actually, it would truly qualify him for the job at United by settling once and for all his abilities to manage a team.

I hope its not true.

We have some great youngsters coming through who have been at the club a long time, they may get cast aside. We have a big fan favourite in Mata, who may also end up out on his ear. Giggs is reported to have said that he doesn't want to work with Mourinho.

It's not a decision that will be backed 100% by the fans. Don't get me wrong, I like to see an animated/passionate manager and I may enjoy that side of him if he gets the job, but I still don't think he's the right man for the job, long term.

Did you enjoy it? I know i didnt. Youngsters and mourinho assumption is older than religion and terrorism

Not particularly, but I did enjoy seeing so many of the youngsters get a game and more often than not play well. I hope he knows what's expected of him and staying in line with club traditions and youth.

The Mourinho thing with youngsters isn't that inaccurate an assumption, he's been a spender most if not all of his clubs after Porto.

Great spender comparison. Welbeck out, falcao in. Adnan on loan, Di Maria in. Mata at rw, pereira and memphis benched.

Welbeck wasn't good enough and his injuries at Arsenal have helped prove it was time for him to go. They needed a big name like Di Maria after the abysmal season after Moyes. Falcao was a joke I'll give you that. Our squad at that stage needed freshening up, Mourinho spends regardless.

The amount of people blaming Woodward and the board for a 'colossal fuck up' are delusional. No team is going to leak info minutes after winning a cup.

[–]DJ_B0BThe Special One 0

I disagree, we've been missing a target in the box for ages, more often than not wing play leads to a cross and this season so many of them are wasted on our small attackers.

Don't particularly rate Cavani either, that and he's played out wide to accommodate Zlatan as well. Zlatan is a good player, at times a very good player. Just don't want him near the club.

If all these reports of Giggs being butthurt about being passed over for the job and him threatening to leave are true then he can fuck off. He's not entitled the job when he's never managed a team ever.

Do you mean in terms of leaving the club, or is the rumour that he will retire? Very excited about Mou but I can't help but feel sorry for Louis with how this has all gone down.

I put in mainly on Mendes to be honest,United seem to have had a timeline planned all along, however he jumped the gun pretty fast and there wasn't much United could do.

I mean the full time whistle was hardly gone in the cup and it was all over the BBC.

[–]Pint_Of_BitterIrwin 1ポイント2ポイント  (2子コメント)

Indeed, I fail to see how it's the club's fault that his agent has taken it upon himself to spill the beans too early.

The buck, for better or for worse, stops with the club.
Either United's team did not emphasize enough about the rigidity of how things would go about.

Or, they did so, and Mendes chose to ignore United's concerns anyway, implying the 'super-agent' doesn't take the hierarchy of the club seriously. Yet we will continue to deal with him to take his clients into our fold; management & playing staff.

Yep, it feels like that was a bit of a power-play from Mendes, letting Man Utd know they can't dictate terms like that to him. Also seems to be keeping a cosy relationship with the BBC.

Supposedly Wayne Rooney is the source of yesterday's articles about LVG, emails and all.

Really? According to who?

Red Issue have gone big on it, a few decent United fans on my twitter feed saying it too.

Wow. I hope not. Especially after he's come out and said its wrong to talk about.

Pure speculation, but I've seen a for sale sign outside what I've heard is Rooney's house

[–]welbzyThe Ghost of Welbeck

Rooney knows how to use email?

I find that hard to believe.

The foundation has been laid, the blueprint is ready. JM's gonna build a fortress that hopefully, shall not crumble!

Mourinho is apparently 'furious' that Mendes has led this leak so close to the final, as he see's LVG as a mentor and close friend.

Is there a source for this?

It was a series of tweets from a few of the people reporting it. Should be one near the sub front page still.

[–]Pigeon_AssholeBlind's Sexy Hair 2

I've spent over £20 so far on roaming charges trying to see if it's happened yet!

Won't happen until at least 12. Probably best to come back at 1pm instead.

[–]youreviltwinbrotherNobody fucks with The Peaky Woodwards

Ah, it's been too long since the off-season f5 party has been in full swing. Nice to be back!

Hope there's some truth behind these transfer rumours that have come out.

Cannot wait. I know it may end in tears but the ride will be worth it and, OMG, fucking Mourinho.

He's coveted this position for ages, I don't think he's going to go into this job as harsh as some of the others. He knows the English press inside-out, people at the club aren't poisonous like at Real, he's got enough money to cure world hunger, and he's sitting on the tallest throne in the land.

If he brings his A game and adds a bit of class in his dealings, he'll have everyone related to MUFC eating out the palms of his hands.

It will probably work out exactly like this with a shit ton of speculation and transfer rumours to come. We will probably be linked heavily with every Mendes client and everyone who has worked with Mourinho in the past

As if we haven't been linked with all of them since December.

https://twitter.com/bbcsport_david/status/734666485667336192 LMA lawyer Paul Gilroy QC arrives @ Carrington but turned away by security. Employment barrister acted for Moyes too

What's an LMA lawyer?

League Managers Association

[–]RICK_DORGONSchweinsteiger 5ポイント6ポイント  (0子コメント)

LMA

League Managers Association. It's the Trade Union for Managers. I guess they're just making sure that all settlements etc are done properly and LVG receives fair treatment and compensation.

League Managers Association, I think.

[–]Pint_Of_BitterIrwin 6ポイント7ポイント  (0子コメント)

Was just about to post this. BBC website also now confirming. An indication of change if ever there was one.

Mourinho is apparently 'furious' that Mendes has led this leak so close to the final, as he see's LVG as a mentor and close friend.

That is a great point actually, I wonder how Mourinho has felt over these last few months, especially if an agreement was already in place.

[–]Entrepreneur_GirlJuan Manuel Mata García 33

It was written all over his face when that damn car door wouldn't open

I'm utterly disgusted with how mendes did it honestly. Pathetic low blow and disrespectful on so many levels. Utter prick.

[–]Entrepreneur_GirlJuan Manuel Mata García 2

We all weren't expecting it as well, we all thought maybe the weekend after the FA Cup win was when mourinho to United would emerge again. Was literally 2 seconds after we lifted the trophy that bbc was confirming it. What a crazy day that day was.

I even mentioned to someone there's no way they'd confirm it then no matter the result. But fucking mendes. And Woodward too honestly for how he's let it get to that.

A simple "he's our manager and we support him" statement would've made it so much better because in the end, LvG wasn't sacked during the season anyway and all these moves can still happen with less prodding questions from the bag of dildos called the media.

That sort of statement would have done two things. It would have massively pissed off the fans and possibly tarnished the cup win anyway. It also would have made the club look like idiots given that Mourinho coming in has been such an open secret, especially if Mendes still made his statement. At the moment we look a little ruthless (I'm fine with that) and Mendes looks like a vindictive dick (I don't care about him - he probably likes having that reputation so people don't cross him) but if they made that statement and then backtracked a week later the above remains true but they also look like clueless, indecisive idiots.

There was no better way to handle this other than getting Mendes to shut up, and we don't control him. The club did nothing wrong here.

As opposed to being quiet about it and having the fans pissed off anyway?

If it was Mendes who leaked the news to the bbc I have lost any respect I had for him (which wasn't much). LVG deserved more respect than to be treated like that.

[–]AJMcCoy612The Special Juan 17

The way I see it:

  • Van Gaal laid the foundations.

  • Mourinho is going to build the house.

  • Giggs is going to live in it.

You forgot Moyes demolishing the house.

I took the hinges and put it in the boy's hands.

And then invite his brother wife around

Don't agree that LVG laid the foundation. On the contrary, he pretty much shacked players' attacking mindset. Possession means nothing if we just backward - we are number one team in EPL in terms of number of backward passes.

[–]Harold_Spliffington 4ポイント5ポイント  (0子コメント)

Best defence in the league. Build from the bottom up!

[–]AJMcCoy612The Special Juan 2

I'd argue he laid the foundations in terms of recruitment, retaining players and promoting youth from the academy. He had all the ingredients he needed, he just messed up the execution.

I really can't see Mourinho making the same mistakes. Our team is currently well set up to absorb pressure, something a Mourinho team needs to do. He just needs to add the fast counter attacking aspect to it, something Martial, Memphis, Rashford etc will excel at.

If Mou is successful you just know everyone will be saying LVG laid the foundations despite probably having a different set of key players, signings and a completely different style of play.

It's the weirdest thing.

If any other manager in the world gets sacked - and the subsequent manager does well - they're generally considered a failure.

If Van Gaal gets sacked, he gets credit for laying foundations. It makes no sense.

In the FA Cup Final, Mata equalised following an assist from Fellaini. Nobody gives Moyes credit, do they?

Yeah, remember when that fairy tale had a pep in it? Let's see how it goes.

[–]AJMcCoy612The Special Juan 10

Pep should have stayed at Barcelona in my opinion. He would have eclipsed Sir Alex and then some, he would have been immortal at his childhood team.

I think Pep will have a rude awakening at City next season. EPL is way more competing league than La Liga and Bundesliga.

and as we have seen, the boring possession football is easily punished in BPL.

More than that, I'm not sure if the city players are capable of his style

He will just buy new ones

His started to have serious stress issues at Barca. Wouldn't be surprised if he goes back, but only once the players who were there before are gone.

[–]AJMcCoy612The Special Juan 2

Yeah the before and after pictures of him managing Barcelona are scary.
