I don't know if what I'm about to say is blindingly obvious but no, he shouldn't be a starter next season.

Rashford has been wonderful for us so far - he's really provided something different but he is still very young and has a tendency for inconsistency (to be expected at his age).

He can drift in and out of matches and I think he shouldn't have the pressure of a starting spot on him next season, I would much prefer we bring in another striker who rotates with him during the season.

He looks a wonderful talent but he needs to be managed properly otherwise he could easily burn out.

IMO he should nearly always be on the bench as an option say we get Ibra and need a faster striker near the end of a game we could bring him on For example

Most of his starts should be I'm Europa or that FA Cup

That's how I see it. Next season I'd love him to be a regular fixture in the match day squad getting 10-15 premier league starts and 10-15 substitute appearances.

Surely you would have to make the same argument for Martial then?

Martial has been playing all year and established himself as quality. I don't think anyone can argue he's not a nailed on starter.

I think the difference is that Martial is two years older and more consistent than Rashford. Those two years are a big deal for young players in development.

I think Rashford should start on a somewhat consistent basis, but we need to sign or develop (maybe Memphis or Janujaz?) someone to be a viable alternative to ease the burden in the event Rashford is having an off-game or is in an inconsistent spell.

Why the hell would you drop Rashford on the bench next season?

Sorry I thought my reasoning was clear.

I don't want to give an 18 year old the pressure of being the starting striker and he also needs to find consistency as he does drift in and out of matches.

Having another striker (Ibra for example) who can rotate with him would be good for his development

Rashford needs the playing time in the first team. Dropping him next season would not be good for his development. He's already proven himself. His rate of goals is already better than Vardy or Kane.

Age doesn´t matter if you have the talent. But I agree with you that we need more depth in the front, but there is no reason for buying a striker to be our main striker when we have Rashford.

If we are to compete in the PL, EL and for the FA and League Cup as well, then we will need several strikers to be able to rotate (and in case of injury). As Rooney may switch to the midfield, we are left with Martial and Rashford as possible strikers - plus the others from the U21. I think we certainly need to add one more striker to the team, and Rashford will still get enough playtime, even if he won't always start.

[–]Lost_And_NotFoundJones 0ポイント1ポイント  (1子コメント)

What strikers are actually left in the U21s? Who'd been starting up front for them at the end of the season.

We have Ashley Fletcher who is out on loan to Barnsley

that's if rooney is back next year :(

Ronney isnt going anywhere, hes the biggest commercial pull off any of our players and he's 4 goals off Charlton's record, so the manager whoever it is will just be told to make do with him

Yes he should start.

Give him the EL and cup runs I think - certainly the early stages of the EL. Plenty of games for him, and it stops Thursday nights stinging quite so much. Outside of that, 10-20 minutes at the end of PL games wouldn't hurt.

Don't think Ibra would be happy on the bench

He has the role currently on merit so yes.

But with Rooney looking good in midfield and Martial seemingly best from the left, we need more options up front if we are to compete for the title and 3 cups. Ibrahimovich probably makes sense as he offers something different and could take some pressure of Rashford but wont hold his development back long term.

I'll get down voted but I would go with a no as well, at first I didn't think Martial should be a starter but he has been so consistent maybe he should. I think Rashford should be rotated and slowly bedded in. I seriously don't want him burnt out!

Why would you get downvoted for a popular opinion

To be honest I didn't think it would be a popular opinion, though I'm very much glad it is! :D

No. We need a proven goalscorer to be competetive again. But there is no denying that he deserves his fair amount of gametime next season.

We need that "20 goals a season" striker.

I'm all for giving Rashford minutes, but to get back into Europe, and challenge for titles, we need that star striker right now.

Our best seasons have all been when we had 3+ really good strikers. Going into next season with Rashford as our starter will be similar to going into this season with just Rooney. A recipe for disaster. Not to slight the kid, I love him, and he's done exceptionally well. It's just not a very sensible idea.

It's not like we have to declare our first 11 at the start of the season or anything. Places on the team are selected on form & merit & are rotated depending on fitness, there's too many variables to say whether he should or shouldn't be a starter. If he keeps playing the way he's playing why or how could he be shifted out of the side?

A starter? Yes. A regular starter? Probably not.

If we don't sign another CF (shudder) then he should start some games but not all of them, he's young and needs to be rotated, but being young those legs should have the beating of many players he comes up against even when they're all fresh. He would then be regularly subbed out.

If we sign another striker, it depends on whom and their age. If we sign an older striker without a huge ego (so not Ibra) then it would likely be good for the older striker to come on for Rashford and have the advantage of playing against tired defenders. If we sign Ibra or another top top striker then that striker is going to want to start, in which case Rashford on the bench would be a wonderful asset coming on against a defense tired out by that striker.

He should be a first team player and should get into lots of games. But he should be rested as needed,he is young and I don't want to see him like Michael Owen, Martial should also be rested. The best player to mix with those two would be an older striker who will not be here forever and will be here to keep us going until the two young players have developed more.

Deciding who should be in the starting lineup is the very purpose of pre season. Currently he's definitely our best CF with Tony at LWF and should start everytime now that Wayne is finding form as CM.

Who knows what will happen next season.

He should play a lot but I think he should be deputy to a proven world class striker who we bring in. I think that would be best for the club and for Rashford in the long term.

If we do sign Zlatan for example you're talking about a 35 year old who has never played in a league without a winter break and is coming from France where most games are probably like training matches for PSG. It would be silly if Rashford didn't get a lot of matches in that situation.

He should be a starter. But unlike Martial (who's a couple years older), I don't think he's shown the consistency levels required to warrant starting as many matches as say Rooney or Smalling. Given a year or two Rashford will probably attain that high level of consistency, but at this point i don't think he's reached it yet.

Of course he should he's amazing, the only question is his position, maybe being the lone striker is too much responsibility, so either you play in a front 2 or you try him on the right wing, I don't know.
