Illma Gore: Hate Crime Hoax as Performance Art

In the latest episode of Hoax Busters with Mike Cernovich, we discuss Illma Gore’s claim that she was violently assaulted by Trump supporters for no reason at all. I label this “hate crime” a hoax for several reasons.

Before analyzing this hoax, read my guide to spotting hate crime hoaxes.

Does the reported hate crime fit a media narrative?
What had to have happened for the crime to have happened?
Fact check (read police reports, where available).

“Today I was punched in the face by a man who got out of his car and yelled, ‘Trump 2016!'”

Isn’t that convenient? This artist was not the victim of a random crime. She was instead a victim of those violent Trump supporters. That’s too perfect, isn’t it?

She’s also a social justice warrior with an anti-Trump bias, as her post from February 10th shows.

Illma Gore used the hate crime hoax as a viral marketing campaign.

Gore is going to make millions of dollars due to this hoax. Illma Gore is an “artist,” and because of this publicity, a crude painting she drew has been appraised as being worth $1.87 million.

Illma Gore did not give a detailed description of her alleged attackers.

Thanks for everyone’s support. If anyone saw anything on La Cienega on Friday, please let the local authorities know. Black Honda Civic with a group of people in the car.

Were they white, black, or Latino? Tall, short, skinny, muscular, or fat? How many men were there? Were they any women in the car?

There are no concrete details backing her claim.

Illma Gore’s black eye is inconsistent with a sucker punch.

Here is a picture of me 10 minutes after being sucker punched outside of a bar (on the left) and then the next day (on the right).

In those photos I was 6’1″ and 190 pounds. As you can see, there is blood everywhere.

The next day your eye swells up. That’s how your eye heals. There’s short-term inflammation, due to an immune response. Your eye swells and then the swelling goes away.

This is Gore’s picture from two days after the alleged assault.

Gore is tiny. Yet a man sucker punched her without tearing her eye open. There is no cut. Her eye was not swollen shut.

Illma Gore did not mention being knocked unconscious.

If a full-grown man or even a teenage boy sucker punched Gore, she’d have been knocked unconscious.

Her story does not indicate that she was knocked out or even knocked down. A petite woman punched by a full-sized man would have been knocked out.

Illma Gore did not post the police report online, making fact-checking impossible.

According to one mainstream media outlet, Gore filed a police report. The police report is not posted, and the report is described thusly:

Gore filed a police report, which she sent to the Daily News. The report says the attacker fled in a car right after the punch, and that Gore was not seriously injured. Gore told the News the aggressor was with “a group of guys in the car.”

Police would have asked for a detailed description of her alleged attackers. Why wasn’t this provided in the article?

I declare Illma Gore a hate crime hoax artist.

Sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction, although I’d be shocked if this crime was legitimate.

    Problem is, my statement comes not just from feeling the effects from a particular caliber of fighter, but just looking at the bodily trauma she is putting on display. There is no swelling in her cheek, not almost no, there is none. to do enough damage with a punch (if they gouged, then i could see the capillary damage) they would either have broken her orbital bone at most, or at least cut her cheek or her brow. I was team medic for our international team. Ive seen this too many times, even with fights with the kids divisions where someone got too aggressive, and even they end up with cuts or a good shiner; the eye and its surrounding tissue are just that fragile. It’s just not credible from the damage. That’s not even to mention any of the other aspects of the story.

I do not have much experience with these types of wounds, so I will abstain from the discussion aside from the question whether she would have been knocked unconscious. I think this is not necessarily the case because not every man is a trained fighter and it can happen for him not to hit her fully and directly. Also, if anger takes over, it can compromise motor control – from my own experience and from what I hear.

  You are right that a punch isn’t definitive proof but I think you’re ignoring some of the other statements, particularly the first one.
  Why is there no description of the attacker or the people in the car? Traditionally when you ask people to help find an assailant you would mention things like height, skin color, hair, etc.
  Add that to how the story fits a narrative to her advantage, it’s all through social media, plus she didn’t get hit very hard it’s a stack of items that indicate most likely a hoax.
  Nobody’s claiming a smoking gun that definitively debunks her but there is a group of questionable evidence against her which leans her story to highly unlikely.

Hey, Mike. I know a friend of a friend of hers who told me about this, convinced it was legitimate. I smelled hoax instantly. She sent me this Instagram screenshot.

Among other things, when I enlarged the oh-so-credible “poison_ivan” photo top left and that of the woman bottom right—enlarging these tiny photos so I could do a Google images reverse search—they were clearly and obviously BS photos attached to a few different social media profiles. Also, poison_ivan is holding a cell phone case (or similar) with brass knuckles, of all things.

Further, according to my friend, this is the very same woman who painted Trump with a micropenis. What are the odds of that?

Medically, your assumptions do not line up. At all. And you have no actual proof beyond circumstantial + your suspicion. That’s it.

You were punched outside a bar. By someone who wasn’t blitz attacking you. They didn’t run up and hit you and run away, did they? No? So your attacker simply punched you? When someone runs up and has to get away fast their adrenaline levels (and ACCURACY and force with which they threw the punch) are very different than someone standing in front of you who didn’t just run up to do it. Very different things here YOUR attacker could throw a more accurate punch that could land much harder than someone running up, punching and then immediately needing to get out of there.

Additionally, most punches do not tear the eye. That has to do with the angle and force applied. Again, these things are seriously not comparable. Anyone in medicine will tell you that the wounds from two different punches will be different.

Now. Regarding whether or not she would end up unconscious — no. Just no. It is VERY hard to knock someome unconscious. The size of the man doesn’t matter — the force of the punch does….and it is VERY hard to punch someone once or twice into an unconscious state. It’s really really not that easy. Her size doesn’t make her more frail…not in the way you are implying. She is not more susceptible to being knocked out because she is small.

Medically, your theory doesn’t hold water…and this is just off the top of my head without really digging into it bc, clearly, you came to the conclusion you wanted because it suited your purpose. Her eye does look as though it’s been punched. I have a doctor sitting right next to me and they agree with all of this.

So. Next time. Please check your facts.

Nothing in this article is definitive. Maybe it was a hoax but there is nothing here to convince me either way. It is plausible the news didn’t want to put a description of the attacker because it could incite more violence as people will start attacking any Trump supporters that look close to the description. Again, if she was legit, she would not be calling for witnesses while omitting important details, e.g., time and exact location. Claiming that it happened on La Cienega just doesnt cut it. And yes, her bruising looks fake. If you look at other older photos of her, the areas below and above her eyes are puffy. All she did is add some eye shadow.

Not saying I do or don’t believe Ms. Gore’s claim, but I just wanted to say I find your sucker-punch math to be a bit off.

Anecdote: I’m 5’4″, weighing all of 126lb (at the time; I’ve done some expansive renovations since my last knock-down-drag-out), and I didn’t lose consciousness or even my balance for most of those dastard little cold-cocks. Science: the image shows bruising around the zygoma (which could still reasonably be that swollen after as much as 4 days). That bone could have more evenly distributed the force, causing less damage than your photo, showing damage to the maxilla. There’s more precious tissue behind the maxilla, which is not as solid or smooth as the zygoma.

Like I said, I don’t know the truth anymore than anyone else, but your argument is just a bit flawed.

Maybe it was hoax you make interesting points yet all are only reasons to question not definitive proof. All can be responded to with arguments in detail. I have been sucker punched, did it cut my eye nope, did I get a good look at the suspect nope. The damage and consciousness is relative to the strike and location or power. 20 years of martial arts I have bad bruises with limited strikes(grassing blows) and devastating contact at full force that left very little trace. Show your phrinsic arguments are void. As for posting the police report that could infer with the progress of the investigation and in most cases while a suspect pool is open standard procedure is to withhold details to discriminate against copycats or cranks looking to claim credit. Lastly your opening argument only shows a possible motive for the art it’s self and her selection of him as a potential subject to portray in a humors light. So in conclusion you have achieved nothing in your argument to debunk any part of her story. Is it possible she lied sure and is working for Hillary, is it just as passable you are looking to do damage control on behalf of the trump campaign, sure is, what is the truth no idea but I do appreciate the humor in the art and hope it goes viral……P.S. do your research better and work on your fact checking and hypothesis.

Maybe she was punched or attacked, but she’s likely lying about who did it. Now, there’s no way to prove if this happened days before in a fight with someone else or in the way she said it did, but the details she describes don’t add up, at all.

Most people – especially those who are politically active – wouldn’t even recognize the guy who made the Obama Hope change poster, let alone whoever the hell this women is.

Think about this. Some people recognize her as an artist – out of all the thousands of others in the area – and somehow remember she hates Trump!

Some innate narcissism and projection there about how important she must be! A guy gets out, attacks her, and then has the know-how to shout “Trump 2016” to make sure we all know who did the attack.

Being assaulted isn’t a crime, but wasting police resources by deliberately lying about who did it and when/how it happened is and hopefully, she will face some charges for this.

There is no assault at Alvira and Cashio as she allegedly reported.

Either she didn’t complete the report or the police still haven’t recognized a crime occurred.

Also- she reported the assault at Alvira and Cashio, so why is she asking for witnesses on La Cienega on instagram? That’s a block over.

I suspect she moved the assault over a block when talking to the cops after she realized as assault on La Cienega would have been impossible to do without witnesses and cameras.
