It's just a coincidence that Lee tried to meet with them, and finally caved in to their demand? Bullshit.

Protesters serve as a mouthpiece for a much larger group of people, and these protesters had very wide support. That is why momentum changed with the BoS and the Mayor. Turns out black lives do matter.

Sure, the department maybe needs to be 50% bigger, but that's a completely sperate issue. You don't go around targeting and killing minorities just because you're understaffed, there is no excuse.

By my count there have been about 20 officers caught being bigoted, and not just in their free time (as if bigotry is something you turn on and off), but amongst each other. That's 1% of the force, but we don't know what the actual sample rate was.

Oh, and this latest batch was discovered because a lieutenant illegally helped an officer interfere with an investigation into that officer's alleged sexualized assault of a woman. The police sure have done a wonderful job of policing themselves under Suhr.

Furthermore, statistical analysis of arrest records show that a racial bias exists across the board. That 1% is just the tip of the iceberg, and I can see why the minority communities in this town have lost faith in the police department.

Suhr resigned as an ineffectual leader who lost the confidence of the people.

How deep in the sand does your head need to be to think our police department is not having some very serious problems?

I'm getting this information from an architect. Read the suit, and ask the City Attorney. There's definitely a case to be made that if a feature of a property is publicly accessible and the public commonly treats it as a staircase, but it doesn't have the safety features required of a staircase, and the lack of required safety features repeatedly causes grave injury and harm, then the owners and managers of said property are going to be held liable. It's pretty straightforward.

What felony did Alex Nieto commit? And I'm not surprised that police tend to have interactions with committers of felonies. What is unacceptable is the rate of fatalities, the racial bias, and outright bigotry.

It's 2016 and we know a lot more about safety in this century. Affordances do matter when it comes to protecting the public.

Because despite all apparent efforts to the contrary, police killings of minorities and evidence of police bigotry are accelerating.

They are intentionally designed as an architectural element to resemble stairs, and people use them with their legs to access different levels of elevation. People even call them stairs.

Stairs exist outside, too. And yes, these stairs don't lead to anything, that's why they're called the stairs to nowhere, and that makes them dangerous to the public.

It actually does. Try building a non-conforming staircase in your house but call it someone else, see if you get your permit approved.

People call them stairs and people use them as stairs. When they get injured because they don't conform to safety standards for stairs, then the owners are held liable.

The thing I find idiotic is that the city lets people climb on these stairs and take pictures all the time, despite knowing that people repeatedly get hurt and that the city is going to be liable for damages every time.

Stairs are required to have a particular rise and run, and a handrail, so even drunks can navigate them safely.
