I know that Bitcoin kind of seems shitty right now and isn't usable for much beyond drug deals and CP, but the Lightening Network is going to fix scalability. Sidechains are also going to do that, at some point. Banks are looking into blockchains and they're going to start using them for some purpose at some point in the future, which is going to help Bitcoin. The block size is going to be increased as is necessary or desirable based on consensus (which will materialize when the time is right). These things will occasion mainstream adoption, at which point Bitcoin will really hit its stride.
