I am wondering if anyone could tell me why that woman would have been arrested for while outside ten years ago. And to clarify I don't mean I don't believe her, it's an obscene thing to do but I don't doubt it happened, I want to know what the officer would use as their excuse or charge. All I can come up with is disturbing the peace by her mere presence because of other people's unwarranted reactions.

Still really proud of our country and city today (even though it's long overdue).

Asked what has changed for trans people in the past decade, Nicki Ward said before the flag-raising: “Well, I’m not being arrested for standing here so that is certainly a step forward.

Anyone have sources or examples of this claim? I don't remember it ever being quite that bad in the time frame she cites. Victimization of LGBT members, sure. But that's quite different from saying police were arresting transgendered people simply for standing around or walking down the street. Her claim seems exaggerated to me.

We still have a ways to go, but I am damned proud of my city for this. They've done autopsy studies on brains of transgendered persons (weird, I know) and found that a part of their amygdala that regulates gender identity is actually tuned to the "opposite" sex. They're literally the opposite gender stuck in the "wrong" body.

I was roommates with three trans men and they were just regular guys who wanted to live their lives free of harassment, hate and bullshit. All I could do was thank god that I hadn't had to put up with so much ignorance in my life, and marvel at what awesome people they became in spite of it. Plus they could all drink me under the table, but I don't know if that's innate as well.

That's nice, considering that as the head of the OPC, he was at the helm of a bloc that remains opposed to meaningful trans rights or protections.

The bill that added gender identity and gender expression as prohibited grounds for discrimination in the Ontario Human Rights Code in 2012 was actually cosponsored by members from all three sitting parties incl. Christine Elliott from the Ontario PC. There were three or four members of the party who rose to speak on the bill, and all did so in full support of it. There was no silly fearmongering like we saw with Bill C-279 and other earlier attempts to pass similar legislation through at the provincial and federal levels.

Not to say that there aren’t issues with the Ontario PC, but they definitely put the P in PC with this one.

Sauce here if anyone’s interested.

Unfortunately, with Brown now at the helm, the moderates like Christine Elliot are being pushed out.

to be fair every other conservative politician anywhere in north america also felt the same way a decade ago, and a whole lot of them still do. turn your sarcasm against them.

Which he did represent his constituents. Pretty much what he's doing now. Despite being just feel good politics.

Just get rid of all classifications of washrooms.
No "Men", no "Woman" just put "Washroom" on the door and be done with it.

No thanks. Women leave public washrooms in a horrible mess compared to men.

Lol all this does is fuck over men at the expense of women.

Women washrooms are fucking disgusting.. And the lineups are always brutal at events.

You're not wrong. I worked in restaurants and big box stores, the women's washroom was hands down, by far, the most disgusting. We'd often close it due to clogged toilets (monster shits, tampons, etc) or straight up refuse to clean biological waste (piss on the floor, puke in the sink.) It's like they forget etiquette or sanitation and just throw caution (and shit) to the wind. TL;DR - A lot of inconsiderate cunts out there. No man should ever step foot in a women's public washroom.

[–]AmbipathJane and Finch [

What happened when you refused to clean biological waste? Somebody has to clean it.

They can hire specialized cleaners for that. It's a food service worker's right to refuse unsafe work. Handling explosive bodily fluids isn't in the job description of wait or kitchen staff, so they'll call in a professional.

Lineups are brutal at events because we still split up washroom space 50/50, which doesn't reflect the reality that women take longer in the washroom and need more space (i.e. they can't women through urinals quickly).

I know this might surprise you, but women have a different set of genitals than men which makes using the urinals a bit challenging.

Unless you're dropping a deuce you will be unaffected.

Unless you are making one of two bodily functions you will be unaffected.

Lol sweet deal.

Guarantee within the first week some drunk girl shits in a urinal also.

You seem oddly in the know about what the inside of a girls washroom is like for a dude.

Are you a janitor?

What is? That no guy would want to share a bathroom with females?

Id rather go out back of the club and take a piss in an alley than go into a club unisex bathroom heh.

For the love of god no. My company recently moved to a building with small single unit washrooms. I often see women using the men's designated washroom and they are fucking pigs. I have never had to deal with toilets seats spattered with blood before this place.

I'm guessing most men wash it off first with their piss. At least that's what it looks like.

(I can't fucking believe how sociopathic people in general are about public restrooms.)

I would at least lift the seat with my foot and then push the flush lever with my foot.

But it's true. Women's washrooms are just disgusting. Worked at Walmart as store standards and those washrooms are vile. Like who the hell picks up a turd from the toilet with their hands and makes poo doodles on the mirrors.

The shit thing is hardly gender-specific.

Some guy was doing this regularly in my university residence. As well as deuces in sinks, showers and the bathtub. He wrote "SHIT" with corn-kerneled shit on the back of a stall door that the janitor refused to touch.

Eventually he started branching out to stairwells and the halls. His piece de resistance? Microwaving shit in the common room.

What a fun two semesters those were.

Damn that's disgusting too.

edit* Still Walmart trumps all. Women hover instead of build a nest and sit down. Which means shit, piss, blood gets everywhere, even inside that "tampon" disposal bin where you have to use force to push it past the "flappy cover".

Was there no recourse? Could they not evict him? Or arrest him? How did he not get the crap kicked out of him (no pun intended) by the rest of the dorm?

[–]blackbeatsblueBay Street Corridor [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

We never figured out who he was! Hell, could have been a woman theoretically. Or a bunch of people. Assumed "he" though because the woman's bathroom went unscathed.

edit: I'm secretly hoping someone recognises my dorm/year from this.

As a guy, the worst is if I go in to a stall and the seat is already covered in piss. Even if I am there to piss and am capable of lifting the seat, I have to wipe it down for fear of someone entering immediately after I leave and thinking I don't know how to aim.

Transgender issues were a thing long before the bathrooms. It's just allowing people to talk about it more publicly. It's a good thing

Also this is addressing much more than bathrooms.

Kind of weird considering the majority of the people that show up to "support" one side of this debate are the people opposing it.

What ever happened to the greatest good for the greatest number of people?

Yeah, because perverts were just WAITING for this decision to creep on people in bathrooms.

At the annual pervert convention they all cheered in unison when this was announced!

Get your head out of your ass, the stick figure on the door never stopped anyone from being assaulted in a public washroom.

Seriously, what? I've never understood this argument. Like up until now, potential molesters were hanging outside of bathrooms going "Damn! All I wanted to do today was diddle a little kid, but I can't because this stick figure is wearing a dress. Oh well, better go home and kick rocks."

    Just ... huh?

Act Utilitarianism is based on the Principle of Utility, which is the basis of all utilitarian theories and is best summed up in Bentham's well-known phrase, "the greatest good for the greatest number". - Wikipedia

It can be argued that this philosophy could justify using individuals simply as a means. For example, I could be sacrificed to keep several people alive using my organs. It could also be used to justify ignoring the unique perspectives of individual people.

And how is this not inline with that? As in what is the downside?

Haha sorry I meant to reply to your parent comment doh!
