While this sub has seen ample discussion on the taxonomy of the various sects of Wehrabooism one has thus far been lacking. Some might suggest that this is because any attempt to distinguish the two is artificial, esoteric, superficial and probably pure invention. But those very characteristic are the very core of the Wehraboo, so I shall not let that dissuade me.

Doctrinal of course, the Rommelists and Eastfronters are nearly identical. Both endorse the Nuremberg Creed of an apolitical and ignorant Wehramacht, teach that Guderian is the creator of all armoured warfare and believe that the original Sin of Hitler was not listening to his Generals.

The antagonism fundamentally stems from a disagreement over primacy. In most of the english speaking world it is taken from granted that Rommel Catholics are the most ancient variant of Wehraboo, this is fiercely contested by the Eastfront Orthodox who instead venerate Manstein.

To this end they point out that it was Manstein who produced the divinely inspired Sichelschnitt, Manstein who fought in the entirely clean Operation Barbarossa that was tragically blackened by the SS, Manstein who first formulated the Nuremberg Creed and, of course, Manstein who was defeated by Soviet's human wave tactics. In the view of the Eastfronter the Rommelists are the schismatic, having broken from the one true faith in '50 under the guidance of Hans Speidel.

Rommel Catholics of course reject this line of reasoning. They note that Rommel laid down the key beliefs of Wehrabooism as early as 1941 with his utter disregard for supply lines, blatant scapegoating of the Italians, and of course, being defeated by the Anglo-Americans. Plus Rommel literally died for the Wehraboos of the future, whereas Manstein was merely polite to Americans (Eastfronters retort that Rommel merely killed himself, whereas Manstein was polite to Americans). Rommel Catholics date the split to '55, when Manstein sought to seize primacy.

Although probably the two most influential strains of Wehrabooism historically, other variants criticise the pair for excessive worship of their founders and forgetting the true purpose of the Wehraboo; salvation of all members of Wehramacht from the Great Enemy, Victor.
