Man United supporters from Oklahoma City miss Bournemouth clash

Manchester United are refunding all ticket holders from Sunday's abandoned game with Bournemouth and allowing them to watch the rearranged match for free on Tuesday, but it is worth sparing a thought for the club's overseas fans too.

There were some United supporters who have been left devastated after they travelled to Old Trafford from thousands of miles away, only for their weekend plans to be ruined as a fake bomb that had been used in a training exercise was left at the stadium.

Indeed, one Manchester United supporters group in Oklahoma City had three fans who were making the trip for the very first time, only to be denied the experience. They gather at their local pub in Oklahoma to watch United matches and turn up at 6.45 a.m. in the morning, local time, to watch early-kick offs, such is their dedication.

Tyler and Christin Vaughn had planned their trip and spent thousands of dollars on flights and hotel, with the intention of being in Manchester while United played at home against the Cherries. Their flight out of England was booked already for Monday so they have had to leave the UK before the rearranged fixture was set for Tuesday night.

"While we understand that the club acted appropriately given the concern at the time, to find out it was a preventable mistake all along was completely devastating," Christin told ESPN FC about what happened over the weekend.

"Tyler and I had been saving for this trip since our first journey to Manchester [in 2013] and who knows when we, or our fellow OKC Reds, will be able to make it back."

It has not been bad news for all United's overseas fans though. One of them, Moses Kamara from Sierra Leone, had been left in tears after making the journey from that country for Sunday's game, only for it to be cancelled, but his stay has been prolonged by the kindness of fellow fans.

Manchester United Supporters Trust members have offered to fund an extended trip for him, including a ticket to see the club in the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace at Wembley on Saturday.

As well as those overseas, there are those closer to home who will have been put out by the rearrangement. That includes the travelling support from Bournemouth, who have at least been offered free coach travel by the club for the match, if they have a ticket.

When the crowd arrives at Old Trafford on Tuesday night, there are sure to be empty seats though and it is worth sparing a thought for those who would love to be in filling those spaces but had their dream trip ruined.
