Yeah but your dad didn't help cause it

My dad has something around 30 properties, I'm pretty sure he did.

Yay! I have finally found something to be proud of my father for!

Yes, he's a deadbeat, self-centred, loser bastard, but he didn't help fuck up the housing market!

How do you know?

True. Comment op, are you max key?

The original joke is blaming the state of the housing market on baby boomers - the joke being that the reason the market is fucked is because they used the rising value of their houses to invest in other houses.

Yes. According to /u/antidamage though you're not allowed to find it funny if one of your parents is a boomer who invested in property in the 70s.

I said it'd be in poor taste.

Not necessarily. How do you know Max Key doesn't disapprove of his dad's handling of the housing market?

You can disapprove of something and still use it to make a really unworthy joke. Being super-rich and super-elite shouldn't exempt someone from being judged on their behaviour.

You sound poor.

I'm not. I'd probably have other concerns if I was. Have you heard of Maslow's hierarchy of needs?

ahah yeah fuck poor people epic burn man

Of course it shouldn't, nobody's suggesting it should, but at the same time begin super-rich and super-elite shouldn't automatically cause someone to be vilified for their behavior. In this case the joke isn't really making fun of anyone so I don't understand why it's 'punching below his weight'. If anything he's admitting the problem.

Correct, you have to do shit things first. Like laughing at a housing crisis that his class and his father helped created, that he benefits from while others suffer.

Nice one Cersei Lannister.

Cool, but I don't see how this is 'laughing at a housing crisis'. I find the image funny too, but not because the housing crisis is funny.

I guess your perspective is that he's not qualified to laugh at a joke about the plights of the struggling working classes because he's not a member of that group, which now that I think about it, is a pretty reasonable point... The difference between me finding it funny and him finding it funny is he's not coming from the perspective of someone who feels like they'll never be able to afford a house.

To conclude I just did a complete 180 and now I'm pretty sure I agree with you.
