Regarding the private change:

A lot of misinformation out there for something that lasted a minute or two, so here to clear it up.

I was the one that proposed it, and the other mods approved of the idea under the understanding that private restricted interaction to just subscribers of the subreddit. The idea was to reduce the impending noise by placing a bit of friction between trolls wanting to post and the actual discussions.

Immediately after, we noticed that it actually blocked out all users, including our subscribers. Sub was made public again immediately after.

For those stickling about duration:

  • it was ~5-6 min between comms in our slack team.
  • Initial comm was about 1min before (8:48am pacific time) private.
  • Last one mentioning the revert came a couple min after it happened (8:53am).

We're happy to play whack-a-mole with trolls and wannabe memers, rather we were just trying to facilitate some semblance of a discussion after the match and give users a place to vent. That's exactly what we've done since, banning over 100 of them and removing many more of their comments and posts.

Yes, it was a mistake after the fact. Blame me for suggesting it and being the one that pulled the trigger. We tried to do something helpful on short notice, shit happened, we immediately fixed it. That's the best answer I have.

Now I know how Brazil felt in 2014. Except they didnt lose to an already relegated team

Yeah. Going through /r/soccer made me realize how Chelsea fans must have felt after their PSG loss last season.

Talk to some Ajax fans yeah.

2 points from 12, losing 5-1 on the final day.

Shame on the squad, and shame on poch

I never thought I'd see the day when I would be sad to finish 3rd in the Premier League.

That was one of the most disgraceful performances I have ever seen from this club.

What? It was THE most embarrassing performance I have witnessed.

Sherwood wasn't that long ago, some of those were just as bad.

But this feels worse because than we knew we are mediocre and didn't expect much. And it happened against good teams. Not against a relegated side with our best team in ages.

It looked like a FIFA game, scared, upset, reactionary. The fucking worst. Horribly embarrassing. I hope it was worth it dele, dembele. Hope you're fucking happy. This team looked NOTHING like they team I fell in love with. This better teach alli his fucking lesson, cut that cheap shit out, you fuck. I knew it. I fucking knew it. Now I can't enjoy this shit at all. What a sad state of affairs.

Only thing missing was all the cynical tackling from the Chelsea game.

16% of Newcastle's league goals this year were against us. How's that for a sickening stat?

Well...the good news is we shook off all the plastics.

Edit: Removing this because /u/pandanomic addressed the issue above and there's no point having this as the top rated comment.

Yeah, I think r/Soccer is enjoying the fact that this sub went private far more than if trolls just came in here.

The only reason I even came to check out this sub was the fact that mods locked it. Downright embarrassing I couldn't miss such drama even if I have work tomorrow hah.

Love the mods here most of the time, but that was a stupid decision unless there was kiddy porn or something being posted by trolls.

Not a regular here by any means, as you can probably tell by the flair.. But I feel like privatizing the sub will earn more shit from r/soccer. Just an outsiders two cents

I'm not a regular on here but I never saw subs going private when Arsenal lost 8-2, bottled it year after year, heck even 2-0'd by Hull first half FA Cup, Chelsea in the relegation zone, Pool in the relegation zone, Aguerooo, etc etc

I agree I wanted to come to this sub and just observe the melt downs I wasn't even going to comment but now I did so there

We basically just came 3rd in a two horse race. how the fuck does that even happen?

Title Challengers they called us - Now we lose 5-1 to Newcastle, who are basically a championship team - with 10 men. How can we go from a team that thrashed Man U 3-0 not so long ago to this? Squad hasnt changed much, fucking hell. After the season weve had as well, we end up 3rd and north london will be red for the 21st season in a row. Thought we had changed, but yet again we always find a way to fuck it up.

Pathetic - tough time to be a spurs fan

Squad hasnt changed much, fucking hell.

Spurs has no second string. We've seen it all season, Chadli, Son, Mason et al can't fill in the boots for Moose, Alli and Kane. We lose any one of them and we're fucked.

We miss Dele and Dembele more than we expected. Simple as that. The dropoff between them and their replacements is immense.

A sizeable contingent of our online fanbase was insufferable for the past couple of months, hope this at least brings you back to Earth. Horrible afternoon, I just feel empty.

Spurs is the best team in the league

-- They said after 4-0

I think mason is done as a spurs player.

One can only hope.

Lol this is annoying considering the job he and bents did last season and the fact that he's come up through the ranks but... I don't think he's good enough now to start in the premier league, think the lad would do better in a top championship club. Maybe Newcastle will want to buy him and give Andros a friend.

It is so bizarre to think that he held a regular starting spot while the team was doing well early in the season.

Not opening twitter or going to /r/soccer for the next week. Might build a nuclear bunker to live in while I'm at it.

Going private was almost as embarrassing as the performance. Fucking load of shit all around.

Very poor decision. r/Soccer will have that on us for years.

"Remember when r/coys went private after their team choked? Huehuehuehue!"

Gave the Gooners exactly what they wanted. Should never have happened.

yea, whichever mod made that call should be gone tbh

Most people in this sub realize that the mod appointments are simply down to popularity right? I mean look at the last few..

Just delete the entire fucking sub.

I went to look for it a minute ago and I couldn't see it. For a second I thought someone had deleted it. Turns out I had been unsubscribed somehow?

Nah, I'm pretty sure your mods mad the sub private for a little bit, so that's probably why.

[–]TopScruffyNot a wizard 53

Best part of the match was my gf asking: "Why are there so many refs?".

Fuck everything about that game. I hope Pochettino recognises what finishing below the scum means to us. I hope he knows how embarrassed and livid every fucking one of us are. This can never fucking happen again. I am sick of this, I am sick of our seasons ending like this.

Those players who don't deserve a place in our team need to go. No more excuses, no saying he has heart or loves the club. I love the club but that doesn't mean I should start in the midfield. Clear out the deadwood.

I am embarassed. This is right up their with the worst I have ever felt as a spurs fan, because for once I though things had fucking changed. Why do spurs always do this to me? I hate the fucking hope because this always happens. I need a summer off.

Poch and every player needs to realize how much they let every fan down. I hope they don't downplay it and act professional. I want to see the embarrassment and for them to show remorse for how they treated the shirt the were wearing. This all sounds so dramatic but I've never been so let down before.

I hope they don't downplay it either. The complete lack of desire and mental fortitude shown over the past few matches is heartbreaking.

Thank you. People saying prior to the match that "oh, let's just worry about where we are, Arsenal are obsessed cunts anyway" have it wrong in a way. We need to finish above them to make a statement in the league, and to get the monkey off our back. It's the same reason why winning at Old Trafford three years ago was such a big deal.

It's about change of culture, that's how we become a real force. And the culture isn't changing when it comes to throwing away the end of the season. Regardless if it was the scum or city or whoever else that past us today, we need to learn to finish things off. Then we can talk about titles properly and not in hope

Absolutely agree with everything you said, if one bad game at Chelsea is enough to ruin the entire season then there needs to be a big change. Since that game we have been utter shit and it's led to a complete waste of all the hard work the lads put in during the other 35 games.

Looking at the season as a whole I would of taken 3rd place at the start but that doesn't mean we should be satisfied with how it ended when we had the potential to win the whole thing.

Hopefully the lads show more maturity next season and are able to keep a cool head until the season is over.

The most frustrating part was Poch sitting on the side all game, clearly thinking of next year now that the trophy was out of our hands. The lads let us down, but please Poch just get out of your seat and yell at them. Show the fans you're as pissed as we are.

I just wish this match was at home so the fans could really let them know how they felt.

I think we would've been better of with you starting today..

He loves the club, let's put him in midfield

I'd probably back myself to string together a pass better than mason

Arsenal fan here, not trolling. Just.... discussing.

This top post seems to be the general consensus in here but... isn't it a bit much? I mean, as someone looking in from the outside, Spurs have made huge strides this season. Most of the talk over in /r/gunners was about how Spurs were playing the football we used to, and doing it on a shoestring - while we were finally spending some money and going nowhere fast.

I mean, yeah today as an individual performance would have been a disgrace for any team in the top half of the table, but to be talking about clearing out a big old chunk of the team, and being embarrassed about a 3rd place finish, seems a bit much. Spurs' best season in a while - they understandably lost a massive amount of morale when the title run was confirmed as over, and obviously that huge loss of motivation impacted on the end of the season. That seems like all it is to me.

I mean, since when has 3rd place and guaranteed Champions League football been such a disaster?

I appreciate you not trolling. We're all just letting off steam. We shouldn't be losing to Newcastle, who have just been relegated, in any season. And I think we're just sick and tired of finishing below you, we really should have managed to stay above you this season, there's absolutely no excusing the way we've imploded these last few games.

We'll get over it, we always do. You have to be resilient to be a Tottenham fan. Hopefully we can learn from this. We have a lot to be proud of this season.

I don't like Spurs, mainly since it felt like they replaced Liverpool a little in league standings (Man City don't count as it was a quick cash injection) but even this feels kind of sad.

My fear with Spurs is usually them finishing higher and being more secure as a cause, but it's really a sad end. I think the collapse wouldn't happen if it wasn't so disappointing. I was half expecting you to hit 80 points and at least mid-high 70s only a month ago.

It seemed Spurs replaced being happy with progress by setting newer, high pressure targets. The reaction to the Chelsea draw was abysmal though, even if they won all 4 games they still had a low chance of winning the title. Leciester seemed to just appreciate where it was at the moment (though 5th would be a huge success for them).

? I mean, as someone looking in from the outside, Spurs have made huge strides this season.

70 points is good but it's not even our best season in the prem. The whole matter is if Chelsea, Man City and Man United were on point this season, we would be in our traditional battle for 4th place rather challenging for the title.

Maybe I'm being pessemistic but I don't think we can challenge for the title again next season if the other big clubs get their shit together.

It's the manner in which it was done. I didn't watch the game myself, but I can tell that we gave up. That is what gets us the most. For a team that's shown so much passion this season (incidentally the very reason why so much harmony has been seen both within the club and between the club and fanbase) this is unacceptable.

I couldn't care less if we had lost this match personally - I've maintained all along this season that CL was enough for me. I'm just upset that we didn't even try to finish well.

Yeah. I think you are right. This is natural knee jeep reaction though. Give it a week and I think people will be able to see our success clearer

[–]Are_Those_New_Slacks 77ポイント78ポイント  (3子コメント)

Seriously, no one is going to remember this season but instead about how we fucked it up on the last day to a relegated team with 10 men. This is history right here, prepare to never hear the end of it.

There's some pubs in Newcastle that are going to take a battering tonight. Woeful. I'm so very sad. Sometimes football just coincides with stages in life and it either makes things better or amplifies the misery. Unfortunately for me, things are awful at the minute. Obviously there are things in life that are far more important than football, it just feels like this is the cherry stem on top of the whipped cream on top of the ice cream on top of the cake. We have perfected the art of grabbing defeat from the jaws of victory. I'm going to take a little bit of a break from football now. See you all in a few months.

Hope things look up for you in the other aspects of your life.

Thanks man. Long road ahead though.

I am in a similar position. Stay strong.

Everything will be OK one day. It always is. Promise.

Must win game against an already relegated Newcastle and that’s the performance we put in? What an absolute fucking waste of everyone’s time.

Worse, it was a must draw game.

Wasn't even must win. Must draw. Is that 2 in our last 12 points? One more point, one fucking more, was all that took. I'm not too sure how to math but I believe that pace would have landed us in the Championship.

We have to face our shame.

We were absolutely garbage save for ten minutes.

Both Newcastle matches, both Leciester matches, the Stoke match. Last week at Southampton. We give in time and time again.

We played the best football in years this season. But this final stretch has really undermined our club.

Don't forget that much of this sub was praising the way we played for most of the year.

We need more depth so when stupid shit like the Moose and Dele happens we have people to replace them.

Embarrassed of the last three weeks, but proud of the club this season.

It's called nuance, btw.

We have very little mental fortitude and wear our emotions on our sleeve. The emotions on the sleeve part can be great when things are going well. We thrive on positive play and morale but when it turns, results like the last month happen.

Time to delete the save and start again

Honestly my friend just texted me this and said you can tell Tottenham have the youngest squad in the premier league because of how easily they sulk and lose motivation. Seriously that was pathetic, there is a huge age gap in terms of mentality that our team has demonstrated. We need a fucking veteran player that can get in the face of these fucking cunts and tell them how it fucking is, and that there not entitled to play like shit because they have already gotten Champions League. If we play like that in the Champions League we might as well have given it to fucking United or West Ham because they play like a team with some fucking desire despite some downfalls. Wanna know why Chelsea are doing shit all the veteran players who brought experience and knowledge to the youngsters and a level of professionalism on the pitch are gone. What fucking Dembele and Ali did was fucking childish and we need someone besides Poch to yell at them and tell them and the rest of the team what is acceptable in terms of behaviour and the way we play. Nobody on the pitch today had any balls

That's a good point. Mentally weak is how I'd describe us.

Absolutley love poch but taking walker off for Chadli is the worst decision I've seen all season. Losing 5-1 to a 10 man relegated team is utter shite

First time this season I actually stopped watching. Jesus christ that was horrible.

Ryan Mason is not of enough quality to play in this team we need help back there. Then we have Son who just runs around without any purpose it's terrible. Really disappointing performance. Great season overall and a young team so we should continue to improve.

At least Kane won the golden boot

Just wait for Martial to score 15 in their match against Bournemouth...

Thanks for the laugh. Needed it.

At this point I wouldn't even be surprised, just numb

I've never been more disappointed in this club

If only Alli hadn't punched someone and Dembele hadn't tried to eye gauge another.

We still shouldn't have collapsed like this, there was more than enough out there to beat Newcastle.

I've prepared myself for this moment literally since last June when the fixtures came out. And I still feel like shit.

Our highest finish in the prem and it feels like failure. Do we really miss Dembele and Dele that much? Poch is right that we need better depth, but we still shouldn't be this bad. Fucking shocking. But in the end... Still nothing I love more than being a yid!

Unacceptable. No other word for it. Players should be ashamed. We must learn from this next season.

It's heartbreaking really. The players showed no desire and worse yet no pride in their performance.

I just don't even know what that was. It was like we were the relegated team. Very clear Mason is not cut out for us.

And to think I thought the old days were over.

I just can't fathom how that was the same team that wowed us all season. I just can't understand it

Dembele and Dele were just so good. It's a crutch argument, but losing them absolutely sank us. I don't think we'd have lost against Soton with either of them on the pitch.

Fucking pathetic display, 20 years I've been a Tottenham fan and it's always the same, no use even getting your hopes up anymore.

everyone behind kane and lamela on the field should be fined for that, and the only reason kane isnt on that list is because the ball couldnt even make it that far up the field for him to get it. Disappointed does not even start to describe this. Mason and carroll must have about a 40% pass completion rate this season :(

What a shitty way to end the season.
But Kane won the Golden Boot and we have Champions League next season.

I can't wait to be in a group with the likes of Barcelona, Bayern, etc. when we can't even muster up the quality to defeat sides like West Brom and a fucking relegated Newcastle.

blame must be placed at poch's feet. as we melted down late he was slowly renegotiating his contract, having drinks with fergie and telling us all how unimportant it was to finish above our rivals. honestly, i expect an apology

/u/combatjohnny I hope the club give you and everyone else there a refund.

Corgi mix, they think it's sheltie. He's around 8 so he's really calm. Probably came from an abusive household because he's wary of me when I'm standing but will follow my girlfriend around but he sat on my lap during the game and is sleeping next to me now while I'm sitting on the couch.

The chelsea game was key, you guys gave in to the pressure there but i think if Dembele didnt decide to be a moron, you would have finished 2nd. He is absolutely vital to you guys.

We are the laughingstock of football today thanks to most of the players playing with sandals on they should be fucking ashamed of themselves

Can some of you deluded morons finally admit we bottled it now? This is the bottle job to end all bottle jobs. You couldn't even make up a bottle job like this. This bottle job is a bigger piece of fiction than LC winning the PL.

I think the only thing that's made me smile today is how many times you fit "bottle job" into a post.

So, yeah, that was absolutely pathetic, right across the team. Nobody can hold their head high after that. Not one single fucking player put in a performance today. I'm absolutely fuming about how these last 4 matches have gone. Two points from 12. FUCKING HELL.

THAT SAID. Third is still a hell of an achievement. If you cast aside the one-season anomaly that is Leicester, we're still punching far above our weight and have had a great season for the most part. Auto qualification for group stages of the Champions League cannot be sniffed at. Those last 4 matches very much can be sniffed at but let's not write the season off.

    Absolutely embarrassing.

That was fucking dreadful. Heard all season about the "connection" between the fans and the players, I haven't seen that since the Chelsea game. We packed it in then, the players have been on holiday since the title went. Newcastle wanted it more, far more than we did.

It wasn't just the players either, Poch is a culpable as anyone. The team went out there looking shit, that's on him. We finally start to get into the game and he changes to a back 3 which kills our attack and our defence simultaneously. What an absolute shit show.

Fuck off with your "report everything" shit. We bottled it. We deserve anything and everything anyone else has to say.

    [–]spaceman_stockwell 9ポイント10ポイント  (1子コメント)

I'm sure there'll be a meltdown and rightly so, but on reflection, it's a result which might do us a lot of favours.

Perhaps, with such a disappointing end to the season, the board and management will look at the squad a lot less forgivingly than they might have done had we finished a comfortable second.

Yeah we got Champions League what the fuck ever. This month was fucking terrible, the fight was absolutely drained from this team after Leicester won the league. A two horse race ended with us losing second TO FUCKING ARSENAL! Like for fuck sakes, why can't we finish ahead of those fucking twats. We never bottled the league. We bottled finishing second. Absolute disgrace to finish the season like this.

Just sucks because for a long time I refused to let myself believe that we could actually win it all this year. Then I got comfortable with thinking that and thinking that we would finish 2nd.

    Never again.

Fucking disgusting, what a bunch of useless cunts.

Some one at least buy me breakfast. Cuz it feels like I got fucked

This one really was the cake for me. Some say we have no right to complain because it's our highest finish ever, but this season has been a weak one.

We've had lasagne gate, Redknapp bottling it at Villa content with 4th and AVB hitting a new points record and still having Arsenal finish above us.

This one far eclipses my disappointment. I usually am very reserved, especially when I'm sitting in the home end at St. James, but this afternoon I couldn't contain the audible frustration anymore. We are so much better than what was shown today, but Chelsea shattered us. No one seemingly cares anymore. Title or nothing, sod second cause who cares right? Wrong, we care.

I've never felt so bitterly hollow. Without a doubt in the last 10 years as a Spurs fan have I felt this way. Crushing way to end what should be a great season.

There's no consolation or "at least" that can make ending the season this way better. We haven't played well in weeks or at least haven't finished anything we started. Today we didn't even start we let Newcastle have it immediately and never tried to take it back.

Midfield was getting broken up by Jack fucking Colback. Dier had his worst match for us in his entire career at one point he played a longball that went past the newcastle goal. I don't think I've seen anything so disheartening.

I love Poch but I believe the lack of rotation has run this team physically into the ground and he hasn't offered the mental help that they've need, not sure anyone can help this team mentally though. Everyone is so happy together off the pitch but once we're on the pitch and face pressure we're awful. Newcastle played like Dortmund and we played like Newcastle today

I hope for next season that we get more rotation and we bounce back from teams that pressure us or score on us. We need to sign ourselves a Scott Parker/Michael Dawson not in terms of playing quality but someone who can offer that mental support we so dearly lack.

I think mentally the team was completely drained. Not sure when the breaking point was, the second Chelsea or Arsenal matches? Either way you're correct in that we need a Scott Parker-esque presence.

A week ago today it was my birthday, and I spent the entire day having to revise for an exam the day after. I had to watch us drop a 1-0 lead to Southampton and lose 2-1, which is far, far worse than having to watch a 1-0 defeat.

Then today, again I have to spend the entire day revising for an exam I have tomorrow. This is beyond all comprehension.

I swear this doesn't happen to any other club; you can joke all you like, but we have to watch season after season as we oh-so narrowly miss out on whatever we're going for. I see a lot of you saying the club should refund the away fans for their tickets and travel, but that's nowhere near enough. This is an absolute disgrace, the players should be fucking ashamed of themselves.

I really couldn't be more angry, the team absolutely disgraced themselves. There are no silver linings here. The last three games have been beyond pathetic. A fucking shambles.

I'm not even mad. Just sad. Really really sad.

Fucking atrocious match, and it's gonna hurt for a while, but a good transfer season and we'll be back near the top next season. Plus champions league.

I don't even know what to say. This is one of the worst displays i've ever seen from Spurs.

Poch deserves a shitload of blame for everything that's happened since the Chelsea match. At the very least he should have sensed the mood of the players and made changes to make sure we didn't fall to pieces the way we have but I would have expected him to keep everyone motivated. It starts with him.

This season went from one of the best, to quite possibly the most embarrassing. Absolutely heart wrenching.

    D D L L in our last 4. Unacceptable.

Anyone else disappointed to see Townsend so desperate to score against us? I can't blame him, but it was like an extra nail in the coffin. The guy looked ready to celebrate every time, he was even arguing to take the penalty.

But even when he had a gilt-edged chance, he still couldn't put it away. . .just like his time at Spurs.

I'm just saying if I see a player on twitter saying something like "Well that was disappointing but we'll be back stronger and better next season" I am going to absolutely flip my fucking shit.

really fucking disappointed, not the note this season should end on

Jesus christ, I've gone beyond anger - I'm just done with emotions. After all that, AFTER ALL FUCKING THAT!!!!!!!!!!! AFTER THAT KIND OF A SEASON!!!!!!! We manage to fucking bottle it. Fuck this, I'm taking a break from social media for a bit.

    What the fuck?

We definitely missed the physicality of Moose and Alli.

So sad to see the season end this way. And losing out to arsenal... Fucking unbelievable. Poch failed to finish the job

I feel really sick and its not the hangover. The performances over the past several weeks have been awful and nothing has changed.

If we play like this next season we are fucked

Last few results have shown that we are actually quite far from the finished article.

First 35 games were great, but "Young team" is not enough of an excuse for the capitulation against Chelsea, lack of fucks against Southampton, and combination of both here.

Some serious mental work needs putting in for a lot of these players, and anyone below Dier/Moose/Alli in the order for central midfield needs to either be replaced or have the offseason of their lives to justify why they still deserve a place in the squad.

Also fuck r/soccer. Just straight up fuck off. I get our collapse is funny to a netural but so much shit the entire second half of the season from fans who don't even support an english team.

What the fuck have happened to the team after the Chelsea game? what they fuck are they doing, nobody is moving at all. This is disgraceful beyond belief.

Maybe in a few months when we're playing Champions League football I can forget about this, but right now all I can feel is profound disappointment.

Once again we manage to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

trying hard to see the funny side but feel like I've just been repeatedly kicked in the balls. Such a shitty shitty game sometimes

God damn supporting this team is frustrating

I've been partly expecting this would happen ever since we lost to Leicester in January. Par for the course supporting Spurs, but still horrendous.

      I reckon the team bus gearshift reads "P R N L".

Never thought I would be this emotionally invested in soccer (especially considering this is my first full season as a fan), but wow that was horseshit. No heart and it seemed like everyone just gave up weeks ago. I guess 2nd place above Arsenal doesn't matter as long Champions League is secure. What a slap in the face to the fans.

Glad I wasn't able to see the game. What a disappointment.

Last time we finished 3rd was when? 1989/90?

I was keeping calm about it, but I'm still just utterly in shock.

Every game we've played since I ordered my kit has gone against us. I think I cursed the team guys, sorry bout that.

So I missed the game today and honestly thank god I did. I mean I was freaking the fuck out reading the score on my phone so I can only imagine the torture my fellow yids must have been going through watching this play out live. Without trying to bring up memories Im sure everyone would like to soon suppress, could someone fill me in on wtf happened today? Personally I'm all about letting heads roll if thats what it takes to never let this happen again because finishing behind the scum is completely fucking unacceptable this year. Even in our greatest year in decades we still fucked it up at the end?! so seriously, who is to blame? Who didnt show heart? Wtf happened? What needs to change? Sulking about what we just did isn't going to solve anything, I'm looking to take action and I want to know where everyone stands on what needs to change. As always COYS!
