I saw Captain America this weekend! I haven't seen any other Captain America movies, so I didn't really know what was going on, but I got the gist of it. SPOILERS AHEAD!

I thought there should have been more politics in it. It seemed to me that there was a brief discussion about signing the accords (which, why should the Avengers have to sign it? They're not a member of the UN. They don't get to sign treaties or conventions.), a punching scene, and then everyone was more or less friends again. The whole "civil war" seemed to have no real point, other than to make the Captain America franchise more interesting by having Iron Man and Spiderman in it. I found Black Panther to be kind of uncomfortable, especially with the "tribal" music that played every time he's on screen (as if to say that an African can't be a real superhero like other superheroes)(also, why is it that when I google "black panther," only comic book characters come up? Real panthers feel left out.)(Marvel's doing a Black Panther movie? Oh god.), but I do appreciate that Marvel does seem to be diversifying their superhero lineup away from just white guys. Even if the non-white guys are supporting characters.

I also think Captain America is one of the world's most boring superheroes. He doesn't seem to have a personality other than "look at me, I'm defying the UN because I'm America!" I also kind of like the irony of picking the blonde-haired, blue-eyed guy to beat up Hitler. If you're going to wipe out Hitler, why do it with the guy that most typifies Hitler's own rhetoric?

Suffice to say, I enjoyed the movie. The punching was fun. It should have had more punching. It was exactly what I expect and want from my Marvel movie. Creative punching with an attempt at a story that's just there to hold the punching together. It was fun.
