Best option for travel is train, takes a couple hours roughly from Euston to Manchester. If the game that weekend is away, well.... You probably won't have much luck if I'm honest. Just check for second hand tickets on Twitter maybe, there are a couple of accounts dedicated to it

I was looking at train tickets and they are 166 pounds!! Very expensive for just a 2hour ride. Unless I'm on a horrible website.

You can get them for 60 closer to the time, just keep checking. It's only 2 hours because the pendolino is fast; car takes ~ 3.5 hours.

Also off peak returns are only 82.50. You can get one on the day. FYI away tickets will be tough to find.

It is expensive, but shouldn't be that much! For example I just found this - £26 from London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly, then presumably a short cab journey to the stadium. I'm using this coming Saturday in the example but I doubt the prices will be that different come August.

I was quoted £9 each way from London Victoria to Manchester by National Express on the date you mentioned, maybe £15 each way all fees included. But it will take you between 4-5 hours.
