Yeah, its pretty drastic how quickly it went from "LITERALLY hALO AND an INSULT" to best thing evar.

Im avoiding the game subs because I actually enjoy the game a lot, and I'd rather keep it that way.

I agree I bought Doom on release and am enjoying the hell out it. Bethesda really knows how make FPS first they nailed Wolfeinstein and now this.

Even though it was done by different companies, but after Wolfenstein, I was open to buying this one sight unseen (other than a couple videos online).

I think they have a very strong sense of what made those games good and did what was needed to get the developer to really shine.

Bethesda really gets a lot of shit for no reason. I think they really know how to make games fun and replayable. Never been disappointed by one of their releases.

Yah. I'm not the biggest Fallout or Elder Scrolls fan, but I've never not had fun with them, even if I don't end up spending as many hours as many do.

The weird thing about the "it's Halo" jerk is the fact that Doom did the "helmeted space marine badass in space" gimmick long before Halo.

Just look at this guy. That's from the fucking cover of the game.

If anything, Halo has been trying to be like Doom all this fucking time.

Actually though what in the fuck happened. Everyone was bitching and moaning about the fucking beta as if Doom is some renowned multiplayer arena shooter and the campaign is an afterthought, and now all these supposed OG Doom fans are all surprised that the campaign is good? If you're an OG Doom fan you probably weren't all that concerned about the multiplayer to be honest

Total Biscuit happened.

You're not wrong, I'm sure that's part of it, but a lot of it is from people with paranoia-helmets on not trusting doom due to stuff such as review copies not being sent out as earlier as they should've and assuming that ID must've been hiding something.

Because bethseda/zenimax marketed this game horribly for core gamers who post on internet forums. Between the release of the campaign trailer and the end of the multiplayer beta the game's marketing was 100% for the mutliplayer. Even before that the the amount they gave for the single player wasn't enough to judge if the game will be good or not. We got two 5 minute pieces of year old footage shown at e3, Two pieces of 1 minute footage that is just a quickly edited footage of demons getting killed and some articles by gameinformer. After how horribly the multiplayer beta was received bethseda put out a 90 minute stream of the singleplayer showing it off and people turned around on the game and went "yea that looks pretty good!"

If you go to any thread on any forum about Doom 2016 the discussion is dominated by the single player, some mention snap map but no one mentions the mutliplayer. I've seen numerous people in threads talking about the single player saying it's amazing. I talked to one guy who told me its the best game he's ever played.

If bethseda showed what makes the single player so good than the negative response to this game would be minimal. But we got a focus on the bad part of the game instead and a strong example of miss marketing a video game.

Doom 4 in general had bad marketing. There was a ton of ways to tie the 90s nostalgia stuff into the market (a mini-ARG involving Usenet posts, a "leaked" beta that included a .nfo, a crappy-looking 90s fansite hosting new screenshots), but instead all we got was that retarded-ass #FightLikeHell hashtag and the usual bombardment of ads in subway stations and on buildings that every Bethesda game gets before release.

And then they focused on the multiplayer, which nobody has talked about since release, instead of focusing on the actual draw of the game, single player.

On the bright side I went in not knowing what to expect from the single player and was completely blown away.

Yeah I agree Bethesda should have focused marketing on the single player which is what Doom has always excelled at.

It was the worst game ever made until Extreme Muffin said otherwise.

How is the campaign, do we have a voiced protagonist or is it the typical boring silent one?

What I really loved about Wolfenstein was that it had a voiced protagonist who really draw you into the story. It's the reason why Treyarch's Call of Duty games are favorite.

In this day and age, a voiceless protagonist in a AAA game is just lazy, in my opinion. Like why not give spoken dialogue to Corvo Attano and whatever the hell that guy in Rage is named. I would have definitely finished that game if he actually talked.

And don't get me started on Battlefield 4's voiceless protagonist who is somehow the leader of a squad but takes orders from his subordinates.

Voiceless protagonists are not deal breakers to me, but it helps keep my interest, hell even low budget rpg's like Bound By Flame has a fully voiced main character for both sexes.
