Is today Carrick's last home game? (self.reddevils)

I recall that his contract finishes this summer and as far I know he hasn't signed a new one. So is this his last game at OT?

I'm sorry but it's bullshit treatment from United. It's Ferdinand all over again. Letting him play the last game and then being told afterwards that he's not given a new contract. After 10 years of faithful service. No chance for the fans to say goodbye.

I truly hope I'm wrong.

Well... It could be that Carrick himself isn't sure and wants to talk to LvG or the new manager to determine his role and how they see him along with his wishes.

You could be right but this is what he said in March:

I am not sure yet to be honest. I haven’t heard anything just at the moment, no. Hopefully [I will] some time soon. I have been here a long time, I have had some great times here [since 2006] and I love the club. It’s a great place to play. Playing games like against City keeps you having that buzz and enthusiasm to play for longer. I am not making a big deal of it, to be honest. I will just have to wait and see what happens. I am quite relaxed about it.

So yeah he's relaxed about it and just wants to maybe know more before he decides or so. It does fall in line with him saying those as well really.

Sounds more like a case of the ownership penny pinching and stringing him on in case the new manager's desperate to sign him.

Nobody knows yet what's actually going on. It may be the case, it may be they've offered him a contract and he's thinking about it. Again though, people are quick to jump down the throat of the club they "love so much".

Correct me if I'm wrong, but maybe the board decided on LvG back in December and no player (I think) has been given a new contract since then as José has not been able to make the decision yet.

I mean, it's hard to correct you when it's just a theory and all so it could very well be plausible. Or that it's now become more standard to renew over the summer for older players or young ones coming through/combo of that.

Either way. The season is finally ending and we hopefully will get change.

He's easily the most important player we've bought in the last decade.

Legend's underselling it, him moving here was the watershed moment that turned the worst 3 years of SAF's management and a trophyless teaming struggling to get anywhere near a title race into the most successful United team of all time.

13 trophies.

5 PL titles

3 CL finals.

There's a very elite group of United players with a comparable CV. He's been right in the centre of it all as well as one of our best players. We'd be dead in the water during 2012/13 if it wasn't for his heroic performances.

I think the problem is you need to actually go to a game and watch him to fully appreciate his role. He doesn't score 35 yard screamers (very often) so he doesn't get the attention on camera but the way he marshals and co-ordinates the team is immense. I'd love to play in midfield along side him. Not only is he usually available for a pass whenever a player is under pressure but he's telling people where to stand, where to make runs and where a pass is available. Our win record with him in the team (in midfield) vs him not in the team speaks for itself.

It's sensible to wait for the Euros (and potential managerial changes). He's been at the club for ten years now though, so he'll be getting his own match even if he leaves us.

This season might have been a bit more hit and miss for him, (though it's not his fault we still rely on him so much), but he has been a fucking class act for us for so long. If it does turn out to be his last game at OT, he'll definitely be missed...

He would have had some indication by now if LVG was being retained for next season.

There is obviously enough doubt in the minds of the powers that be at Utd that seemingly everything is on hold until the end of the season. Playing contracts, signings and the manager.

It's all very stagnant.
