for black women its so common that they even laugh about it... there was a bbc show talking about religion in africa and how its been becoming more and more muslim over the years, the girls were all between the ages of 10-16 talking about the first time they got "it"(raped) and telling the younger girls not to be afraid because it happens fast and its "natural", ill look for the link it was fkn disturbing.
For white women its just a QUESTION of if they are being chaperoned or not, most of south africa is safe but once you go passed that into Mozambique/Zimbabwe/Namibia and up you will have a price on our head immediately, so your chaperons are 2-3 guys and they are armed and there is a very popular service for this offered by the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) but use them only if you are a random white person just trying to go north, if you are a high value target they will sell you out and let you get kidnapped.
