Yeah, there are certainly kinks to our rules in /r/worldnews too (it's a little more complicated than 1 submission only), so I can agree with you there. With subs that handle controversial things, I don't think we're ever getting to a point where things are modded well. Just some of our challenges with handling spam, civility, and editorialization on WN are basically a constant arms race with people who want to bend the rules.

As Quinlan indicated in the meta thread, on /r/politics, we'll try to do megathreads from now on when there's a story that's likely to dominate the front page. This will, hopefully, cut down on the duplicates. This is a work in progress (I believe one of the programmer mods is working on it in her spare time!), but it should go a long ways towards preventing "Bernie wins Michigan" from being 20 of the top 25 posts in the future.

As always, comments, ideas, and suggestions are welcome in the modmail. At this particular juncture, I think it's worth pointing out that we do share a lot of the same concerns with respect to how civil dialogue can be carried out on /r/politics, as well as how to tackle the issues with submissions.
