Highly Efficient and Ultra long Lasting, LumenKnight is not just a lamp – it saves on energy and is environmentally friendly!
About this project
Light is one of the most important parts of our life, without light we feel helpless and even frightened. We create light when there is none, and since the dawn of human history, we have continued to innovate in our quest for better lighting.
Introducing; LumenKnight!
People have been using LED lamps for several years, however, only now has the opportunity arisen for true efficiency. This revolutionary product is optimised in such a way that it provides more light for less energy, the colours are easy on the eyes, mimicking the natural spectrum. The LumenKnight is fully recyclable, and lasts up to an amazing 30 years, conserving our planet’s natural resources.
Just imagine, you fit a new lamp, and enjoy the soft, natural luminance for the next 30 years! Saving energy and the environment!
Benbro’s flagship LED product is the brand new LumenKnight PAR38 lamp, fully developed, tested and ready for production. There is no need for any adaptors – LumenKnight is a direct, screw-in replacement for any existing PAR38 lamp.
Since its inception, over 30 years ago, Benbro Electronics has been developing and manufacturing solar products, harnessing the energy of the sun, and protecting our environment from total reliance on fossil fuels. Benbro engineers have been seeking to further enhance our green technology portfolio, and after noticing the continuous replacement of wasteful incandescent lamps, they reached the decision to design a solution to this everyday problem.
We started looking around and arrived at the conclusion that there was nothing on the market that would save on manufacturing resources, and truly last for years. Reaching out to our world-wide network of engineering peers, we connected with an inventor, who had already put in the effort to design and prototype a Green-Tech LED replacement for any incandescent or fluorescent lamp. Unfortunately (as is often the case with good ideas) he lacked the commercial knowledge and network to bring his creation to the world.
After initial discussions, it was clear that all the hard work had been done, and with a little work, the prototype rapidly became a mass-manufacturable product, with properties that are far superior to anything on today’s market.
We formed a team and started a new journey…
Why LumenKnight?
LumenKnight is based on new technology which enables the production of LED lamps with much better specifications. Coupled with an efficacy of 135 Lm/W, this Green Technology not only offers better light output, it saves on energy usage.
The PAR38 efficacy target set by the US Department of Energy in 2013, set some ambitious specifications. The available products that attempted to meet this stringent specification are illustrated on the graph below. After coming to the realisation that there were no compatible products on the market, the competition was suspended in June 2014.
The LumenKnight was developed, subsequent to the suspension of the competition, and is the only PAR38 lamp which satisfies the US DOE requirements for the L-Prize.
The chart below shows the deterioration in colors of a typical LED lamp. Most of today’s LED products run at temperatures above 75 Dec C. LumenKnight operates LEDs at temperatures that are only 10-15 Dec above room temperature, and the colours are not degraded over time.
Specifications
The 10.8W LED LumenKnight PAR38 lamp, with its parabolic reflector, is both innovative and unique, based on its technical, operational and energy efficiency specifications.
This product is a direct replacement of 90W+ PAR38 lamps, having equal or better quality and light output. The LumenKnight is at least 8.3 times more energy efficient (depending on the lamp it replaces), saving up to 80% of energy costs over its 30 years lifetime.

Risks and challenges
As with any project, there are always risks and challenges.
We try to mitigate them as best as we can. That is why our final assembly and quality checks are performed in our factory in Sydney, Australia. Our team checks all incoming parts and sub-assemblies before putting them in production. Each and every product is then then tested and packed.
All of the design challenges for this product have already been resolved. As we have already mentioned, the lamp is completely ready for production.
Our design team has a deep knowledge of electrical certification, having already certified a number of our products. We are confident that certification of the new product will be issued in line with our milestones.
Our supply partners have been identified. Benbro Electronics has long established strong relationship with many quality suppliers and all of them support our product developments and manufacturing requirements.
