Question on major announcements. (self.reddevils)

I remember reading around the time of Fergie's retirement announcement that the club couldn't officially do anything until the NY Stock exchange was open as him retiring would plummet the stock value. Is there any truth to this? And would it be the same for all major announcements?

$MANU reports quarterly earnings before market open tomorrow so there definitely will be no official news until at least next market close, probably longer.

They have to inform the stock market of any changes to management purely so that potential investors are aware, but the announcements themselves don't have to wait until the NYSE opens. For example, with Fergie, that was announced at around 9.30am in the UK, which would have been around 4.30am in New York.

Changes in executive level management, the coach is just an employee and not even the highest paid. The only thing his contract affects is the operating expenses, which they will report.
