yeah, not a great idea to run your IP through a client owned (kinda) by the MPAA i wouldn't have thought. pending the inevitable pirated utorrent lite, what other decent clients do people use?

is there a link for this other than MATB?

Fuck sake, so do I have to change my torent client?
I used to use Azureus til about 18 months ago when people on this board suggested I switch to UTorrent. Maybe I'll change back to Azureus.

Rkn told me Azureus has a much larger footprint on your system - takes up a shitload of space. UTorrent works better for me and I'm glad i changed over last year. I had more problems with Azureus - loads of problems with ports and all that ballicks which I didn't understand, but with UTorrent, no such hassle.

I never download the updates anyway so I'm not about to change, I figure if it's working fine then i don't really need any updates.

1.7 is supposed to be the bad update.
I'm not sure how possible it is for them to get info on you now that they own the programme, I'd certainly expect new versions to be dodgy.

And I dunno why you suggest using an old version will help?

Edit// and the subject line is misleading - MPAA hasn't bought utorrent. BitTorrent has bought Utorrent. BitTorrent and MPAA have some sort of deal to remove copyrighted stuff from BitTorrent.com. Azeureus apparently have similar deals. So would any of the decent clients right now because the industry is trying to figure out how to recoup bitorrent and capitalise on it.

because i wouldn't have thought the client would have e.g. logged IPs on utorrent's server somewhere prior to been bought out

There's nothing to say that IPs are logged in 1.7. Use a firewall and see what data is being sent from Utorrent.

BitTorrent want to make money, they realise the best way is to make bitorrent protocol accessible to the public so they want an easy to use client to integrate with their store a la ITunes or whatever.

yeah i've no idea if they actually are logging or whatever, but the spectre is raised by cohen doing his deals with the MPAA.

ok rkn, I hadn't seen anything on here before. Would you suggest that we continue to use utorrent then? if not, what else?
