So I was at work the other day and my boss mentioned that he was stoked for the Witcher 3's next expansion. I, too, have been very much looking forward to it, but I realized I hadn't completed my NG+ playthrough yet. So, naturally, I went home to play.

It's probably been 3-4 months since I touched the game, and I've already completed it once. I booted it up fro 45 minutes this morning before work, and found myself in the middle of the Sigi Rueven's Treasure storyline. Specifically, I'm to the part where we use Triss as the trojan horse to get to Menge.

What astounded me was how much, even after so many months, and having beaten the game before, I didn't want to offer Triss up to get beaten down. Even more than that, I am so not looking forward to letting her leave on the boat with the other mages. I am going to choose Yen this time around, and for the sake of immersion, it means I won't choose Triss (even though I know I can).

It was a gut punch, like watching the Buffy season 2 finale, or the fucking Lion King. It was just so immediately impactful. Needless to say I'll be playing more tonight, and will probably be engrossed right up until the new expansion comes out.

Just wanted to throw yet another shoutout to CD Projekt Red. They didn't just make a kickass RPG. They made a real worl, with real characters, that you WANT to care about. It's just breathtaking.

Always nice to see how invested people can get in the game.

It was hard for me too... but I always let her get beat up until the end since... well, that's what she wanted but never do that with a smile.

And the great things is that it isn't just about the main characters, I find myself getting sad for minor characters you only meet once in the game for Witcher's contracts or stuff like that

I even get sad for corpses I find on the side of the road with heartfelt letters from their mother.

I don't know if I can do that. Last time I let it go on for a while and then couldn't take anymore. It's so hard to let it go on...

I know how you feel. I'm choosing Triss for the first time and i was so sad after Yen and I used the D'jinni when i told Yen I didnt feel anything towards her anymore after she looked so happy that she still felt the same :_(

This was my first witcher game, and I had not read any of the books before, so I really was not that big of a fan of yen. I happily went with triss, but holy shit did I feel bad at that moment.

Triss seems like a nicer person in general... But I kinda felt that even though Yen was a bit harsh at times and that she seemed to be a bit reckless, everything she did she was doing for Geralt and Ciri... Despite being hated for it by everyone she dealt with.

I chose Yen purely because she is more powerful.

I similarly started up my NG+ playthrough again recently and I was right at the Triss boat quest. Even after months it was still hard to watch her go :(
