Mata at CM? lol

We really don't need a new RB either, Matteo deserves a longer time, and under a manager who knows how to make a team defend without crumbling under pressure. He was amazing during pre-season and the first month of the PL, then philosophy happened.

[–]BarbadosDMLord Scholes 1

I agree with the Darmian assessment. He was good until October, Bolaise and Zaha destroyed his confidence. With Shaw coming back it will leave us with CBJ, Shaw for left back and Valencia and Darmian at right back. Which in my opinion should be good enough if they all perform

For all the LvG criticism's poor defensive organisation is not one of them. He can't help the complete lack of individual quality. That responsibility falls on Woodward's horrible work in the transfer market.

He's done a fucking miraculous job protecting these awful defenders. Smalling & De Gea alone are not enough to keep this team together.

Darmian hasn't adjusted but it's not a system issue. He was fine when he first moved here. He, like a lot of imports especially Italian ones, struggles with the physicality and speed of the league. Evra and Vidic needed time to settle in as well, they looked like awful buys when we first bought them.

His technical ability tackling is great. He just gets overrun. He's not really a good attacker either and when he goes up to attack he can't track back so gets caught out of position.

.

I don't think a new RB is a terrible idea but I don't see any improvements on the market.

I also don't see why Darmian deserves a spot ahead of Valencia. He's much worse on attack and he gets caught out of position much more than TonyV on defence.

Blind and Mata at CM? How on Earth do you think that's a good idea?

This sub's turned into Arsenal and Liverpool fans.

They hype the shit out of very average foreign players because they have a crush on them. It's pathetic.

Beards! Cheekbones! ... while we end up in a race for 4th place every season.

I'd put them at the centre of a transfer list, but not midfield.

Neither has the build or quality for CM (or CAM for Mata) in the premier league.

Rashford has played well but i doubt very much he'll be in the starting line-up after the summer, he's much more likely to spend most of his time on the bench next year while he gains experience. Assuming we do the right thing and buy an established striker anyway.

Won't gain much experience on the bench tho

Plus he looks ready enough anyway, 7 goals in his first 14 games at age 18 in a team that creates about 2 chances per game is amazing.

I think it would be much better rotating ST between Martial and Rashford. That way they can both get experience and hopefully avoid burnout.

4-3-3

GK: De Gea

LB: Shaw

CB: Smalling

CB: New Signing. We need height and passing ability. I honestly am not opposed to Stones, especially at a cut price after this season. Varane a dream but not overly realistic.

RB: Darmian/Valencia

CM: Herrera/Morgan

CDM: New Signing/Carrick/Bastian. I would love Kante. I'm sure there are other good options for this position that could be got on the cheap. I would keep the old dogs for when we are playing dead rubber teams, especially carrick who can still have a role to play with time on the ball.

CM: New Signing/Morgan/Rooney/Fellaini. We need a fantastic midfielder/creative player for this position. I actually think Kroos would be a great shout in a midfield three, although could be a bit conservative. Also possibly James. Probably the position we most desperately need a world class player.

LW: Martial/Memphis

ST: New Signing/Rooney/Rashford. I would like a top class striker that can guarantee 20 goals a season. This is probably equally as important as getting a world class CAM/playmaker. Rashford is a solid prospect, but should be 3/4 choice and getting game time when possible.

RW: New Signing/Lingard. Mahrez is an obvious example, although I would prefer Kante if we could only have one. Basically a left footed RW that can deliver goals and, most importantly, is an elite dribbler.

You realise Laporte broke his leg or something and would likely be out for a bit still... And city were rumoured to be in for him too with guardiola there and all.

If LvG stays, I have no doubt (almost) that Blind will still be CB as he loves the left foot right foot combo too.

Gk: Hopefully De Gea
Lb: Shaw
CB: New defender/ Blind
CB: Smalling
Rb: Darmian
Cm: Schneiderlin
Cm: Schweinsteiger
Cam: Rooney
Lw: Martial
Rw: Lingard St: Rashford

I'm not expecting wholesale changes this summer, but who knows? A new defender is my lowest expectation, but I want a winger, cm and a striker too...

[–]BarbadosDMLord Scholes 0

Schneiderlin? He has not done enough to warrant a starting place this season let alone next. I would also think a Lingard replacement will be on the cards. Valencia over Darmian as well based on current/recent form

[–]A_WILD_CUNT_APPEAREDMartial Will Save us -1ポイント0ポイント  (0子コメント)

We should play a 442 with martial and Rashford up top Memphis on the left and a new crossing high work rate RW, also I still have faith in darmian.

[Starting 11]

--------------------De Gea--------------------

Valencia - Smalling - [New Signing] - Shaw

----------Schneiderlin ---- Blind-------------

Lingard --------- Rooney ---------- Memphis

---------------------Martial--------------------

[Second 11]

---------------Romero----------------

Darmian --- Jones --- Rojo --- CBJ

--------------Carrick------------------

-------Herrera - Schweinsteiger ---

Mata ------- Januzaj -------- Young

--------------Rashford---------------

We desperately need to sign a CB that compliments Smalling's strengths. AKA someone who is composed and strong on the ball.

Left out Fellaini because I think he's best suited coming off the bench once the game has stretched and opened up (whether we're winning OR losing).

so by this logic were finishing outside the top 4 again

How so?

It's the exact same team as this years barring a center back.

We have one of the best defensive records in the league and one of the worst attacking records. I'll agree that we need a CB, but if we leave our midfield and attacking line the way it is then we aren't gong anywhere.

Your first team is so defensive minded. Rooney has been afraid to take a shot since he came back from injury, Schneiderlin is a DM and so is blind. Memphis is a gamble, lingaard works hard but his inconsistencies outweigh his positives, Januzaj is a gamble and I don't know why Rashford isn't in your first team either. not that he should be our starting striker as he's too young, but in the team you have, a manager wouldn't have much choice.

We need a new Right wing, we need a CREATIVE midfielder- a play maker who can not just hold up play and make a few accurate long balls, but a player who can draw opposition defenders in, create space and make an attacking forward pass. and we need an experienced striker who can work with and give experience to Rashford and Martial.

This is what i feel we need to consider challenging for a title in 2 seasons time. Anthing less i would view a failure

In other words:

  --------------------De Gea--------------------

---Darimian- Smalling - [New Signing] - Shaw---

[New Signing] - [New Signing] - Rooney - Martial/ Rashford

  --------[New Signing]------[Rashford/ Martial]--------------

The rest of the team should be used as squad players. I'd hope to see very few leave this summer as the current squad we have is far too small.

If we're gonna go for it we need to go big or go home

United to make 1 signing???

No I think we could do with a very strong left-footed RW as well but the CB problem is much more urgent.

At this rate I wouldn't even be surprised. Either all them get poached or LVG/Woody fuck it up

[–]azogthorinThere's only one Darren Fletcher

We won't even make the top6 with that midfield for the first XI.

GK: De Gea - He isn't leaving. I'm tired of the circlejerk "why would he stay blah blah blah". He signed a new contract, no mention of a release clause, Navas is killing it for Real Madrid and most Real Madrid fans want him to stay.

RB: Darmian/Valencia- Darmian showed glimpses of being very good early on and faded but players often need time to adjust. It is way to early to judge Darmian and say he isn't good enough. Valencia will be a good understudy. Works hard, football intelligent, strong, fast and knows the league well.

CB: Smalling - Improved immensely the last season and a half. Continues and he will be considered World Class.

CB: We need to sign someone desperately. It should be our no.1 priority. I like Manolas as a compliment to Smalling.

LB: Shaw - thank god he is coming back. Was a constant threat overlapping before his injury. Was a liability a time or two defensively but still massively improves our attacking intent.

CM: Rooney - Played very well since coming back from injury and dropping deeper. One of the few players we have who can ping a pass 40/50/60 yards. Herrera as a rotation option

CM: Schneiderlin - Great defensive awareness and knows the league well. Needs to improve going forward but sounds like he is aware of his faults and dedicated to improving (thinking of recent article that just came out with quotes from him). Once Bastian is healthy he will likely be a rotation option.

CM: New CM hopefully someone like a kroos who can pick out passes like Carrick.

LW: Memphis - Kid has talent just needs to be able to put everything together. A healthy Shaw will help and hopefully getting a full understanding of exactly what the PL is like will help as well.

ST: Martial - Do I really need to say anything? Kid is the real deal. Composure, finishing, pace, athleticism all while being so young. Lock him down to a 20 year deal yesterday Woodward/LvG.

RW: Hopefully new RW. Really wanted a Bale but seems like he is settling in Madrid. Maybe a Robben for a couple years until a younger talent emerges? If not Mahrez sounds like an option out there, not sure how he would fit in a system so different to Leicesters though.

We don't have too much of an overhaul anymore just missing a few pieces. Still think that a CB should be our no.1 priority followed by a RW.

I'd say it'd be CB > RW/ST > CM in terms of priority.

CB I'd go for Laporte or Stones, or someone like Godin if we're looking for experience for 1 or 2 seasons. Then it would depend on whether Martial should be playing as a winger or a striker, although he usually plays LW, I'm sure he could play RW. I'd love to see him as striker and get Muller, Reus or Griezmann. To me Blind can play very well in midfield, and is a good complement to Schneiderlin, CM shouldn't be something we should focus too much on.

Yeah same priorities for me. Only reason I mentioned a new CM is it sounds like Madrid fans aren't happy with Kroos and he could potentially be available. Blind could play in a midfield 3 with the 2 I mentioned and lie deeper and play passes. He is also another player for our team who can pick out passes going forward and cross field.

Exactly, I think Blind at CM is exactly what we need with the corpse of Carrick probably retiring/leaving. But if we do get a chance at a discount price Kroos, it's impossible to say no.

CM: New CM hopefully someone like a kroos who can pick out passes like Carrick.

Dyou think Blind could fulfil this role?

Yeah I mentioned it in a comment above. He and Rooney are probably the only players in our squad going forward after this season who can play balls over the top, forward and ping them out wide.

You realise Perez doesn't work that way though and they could easily make another offer this time right? He was on the way to them apart from a failed fax. The only reason he signed a new deal was to continue playing and as an insurance policy too in case he got injured and all and madrid didn't come for him on a free this year.

When has one player killing it ever stopped Pérez from shopping for a galactico anyway?

You're right it hasn't but I think he is aware of a hot seat he is on with the fans. I mean I see it all the time from RM posters on /r/soccer that they want Perez out. It is also obvious the fans want Navas to stay and to be honest after the season he is having I would consider Navas a Galactico. I can't name too many keepers having a better season than him this season.

The only reason he signed a new deal was to continue playing and as an insurance policy too in case he got injured and all and madrid didn't come for him on a free this year.

This may be true but he has stilled signed so we control the situation. We don't have to sale De Gea and why would we? He seems happy and has stated it throughout the year.

I just don't think he is leaving right now. If we struggle again next year and Navas struggles himself then maybe but it isn't going to be this summer IMO.

Navas isn't a galactico. De Gea, by being spanish and their (future) number 1 for a decade or so potentially, is definitely a galactico.

They could face the transfer ban after the appeal. So it makes more sense to move now even.

Navas was shipped off easily without qualms so I doubt Perez cares too much about it.

As far as de gea goes- while he has a contract, we may still allow him to move if that was an unwritten agreement with him before. Or he could ask to leave and not really be focused again or so and you don't really want to force a player who wants out, to be there. Those aspects are why clubs sell players under long term deals.

He's also stated he's happy last time and all.. Means nothing at all. Hummels slated Götze for leaving to bayern and does the same hypocritical bullshit and says "he wants a new challenge" now. Players' words mean nothing at all these days.

That is just as much speculating as me if not more. There have been no indications from the team or media that there was a unwritten agreement that we would sale him after this season. I've seen nothing from Dave, the media, the club or even the players to indicate that he will leave. Is it possible, yes I mean anything is possible.

Here is a link where a RM fans express exactly what I was saying. Them believing Navas is world class and wanting him to stay. I guess we will have to agree to disagree on our opinions of him.

Hello everyone, I am a American and been a Arsenal fan for I want to say 12/13 years. I first got into them from watching them in the Champions Leagues games which aired in the US after school. Until then the only soccer/football I followed was my hometown Chicago Fire in the MLS and the various Mexican matches I can get on the local TV. But when I found out that there was soccer on after I got home from school I got excited and used to run home as fast I could to watch the games which living in a busy part of the south side meant me avoiding cars like frogger. There was a bunch of teams that were good since it was the Champions League but of the all the teams that were in it Arsenal was the ones I mainly like and one player really made me interested in them and that man was Thierry Henry (Whom for the longest time I called Terry Henry since I thought he was English). He was my first real favorite player that wasn't American or didn't play in the MLS or Mexico and made me a fan of Arsenal. In fact his shirt was my first non-Fire shirt I ever owned and was at his first MLS game (where he played against the Fire in Chicago which sucked since I had to root against him but I did find french shirt that someone lost after the game and got to keep it). But because of him I started to follow more Arsenal and whenever they were on US I made sure to watch them. Back in those days it was hard to watch EPL games in the US since if I remember right there was only one channel that had the rights and only air the big games one or two a week at the time. So I mainly had to relied on the internet to follow them and know what was happening with them whenever their games wasn't shown. This was how for many years I was able to follow them until EPL games got bigger in the US since air at a great time in the US as a morning TV which can be watched before our football start in the afternoon. Anyway back to my question, I know we Americans can get a bad rap for being bandwagoners in the soccer/football world but for the most part I always been loyal to Arsenal and been with them in their up and downs for the last decade or so. So can I fully be a true Arsenal fan now? /unjerk https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunners/comments/44icbu/am_i_a_full_arsenal_fan_yet/ minder
