Laporte broke his leg in March and was allegedly close to a City move prior to that. I think he'll be staying put for the next 12 months.

Marquinhos is leaving according to his agent. PSG rejected a £40m bid from Chelsea last summer, so we'll need to spend a fair old whack to get him.

Stones is another one. He hasn't had a very good season and probably won't fancy a move to Chelsea at the moment, and Martinez seems to be hated by the fans right now. He'd cost a similar amount to Marquinhos but is young and English. With Shaw and Smalling that's an attractive prospect for us.

Stones has been hyped so much because he's english and above average at aspects of the game not usually associated with CBs.

CB should absolutely be our number 1 priority in this transfer window. I think the significance of this was shown in yesterdays game.

It's really been shown for most of the season, but yesterday was just one highlight of it. Not having a solid top CB to pair with Smalling has really impacted the way we play. We have to be more cautious and risk averse with our possession since we can't afford to have our backline exposed.

Well for the most part Daley Blind has done well for the season. I mean he held Lukaku in check when we played Everton so he has shown he can handle bigger/stronger CFs but it has to be on a situational basis.

I think the reason we had to play him this year was our lack of a player who can play long passes/pass over the top/passes forward.

I think Daley has done a fantastic job as a CB within his own abilities. He's been our unsung hero for much of the season. However, I think the best way to move forward is to find a permanent player who can fill that void.

We saying the same thing like a synonym. Ha-ha had to drop a Kanye line

I'd like an older player. Tofu, Ro-Shaun Williams and Axel Tuanzebe are three of our most highly rated youngsters so splashing for another talent is pointless. Before the season started I advocated Coloccini, but he's been shit all season so I'm glad we didn't go down that path.

One thing is clear: Enough with buying talents in defence.

How many CBs have we splashed out the cash for in recent years?

[–]Kroesus 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

Well Jones and Smalling were both young when we got them.

What I'm saying is that we have talents. We got Laurent Blanc for 2 years, why can't we go down that path again?

Stones has been shite

[–]Izio17[S] 5ポイント6ポイント  (1子コメント)

Which is why I didn't include him in my list -- he's had a very poor season, but he may come good eventually.

Regardless, he's going to be very over-priced though, so simply put: he's not worth it.

hes 100% not work 40 million

hes got raw talent, if we got for 20 million i would be happy but 40 million..no chance

I'd be the happiest with Koulibaly. He'd solve our massive aerial deficiency, and he's simply the best defender at this point in his career.

Marquinhos while he's good is 6 foot tall, he won't solve the problem which we currently have of simply not being able to defend crosses.

Add Maksimovic to the equation as well, I've only seen him a couple of times since we've been linked to him, but that man is a proper bastard, I'd be fine with him too.

Completely agree. I think he'd be a pretty snug fit for the pace of the Premier League as well, although his passing could improve a bit. Here's a pretty good write up on him.

We need to be able to defend on set pieces, I think he'd be great for that.

I think I'd prefer an older (read: more experienced) CB to be honest, I still feel like Smallings game benefits from someone else trying to dictate the backline, whilst he [Smalling] is just made to be the blunt object to actually make the clearances/tackles etc. I'd take Godin/Bonucci to be honest.

I'm not saying I'm averse to have a younger one, I think if Varane became available for example (and I think he might be) I'd snap their arm off for someone like him, but I also wouldn't want to keep someone like TFM out of the team by just buying someone who's going to take his first team slot for the foreseeable future.

[–]Kroesus 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

Exactly! People are so keen on buying talents for every position and ignoring the talents we do have. Tofu has looked beastly at times, so let's put him on the bench the next 3-5 years, I'm sure he'll love that (sarcasm).

I don't think Roma would sell Manolas this summer - they would have to pay 50% of his transfer fee to Olympiacos.

^ This but i still dont rate him just yet. I ve been watching him for a while now (I am Greek and soccer is more than just an obsession). He will show his truest colors in a few seasons. I dont want to panic buy him, if that were the case Id look at other options (not too many other ones) for now.

Instead of an established world beating defender or one we could have for the next 10 years, I would like us to go for someone experienced who could be a calming presence in the defense. One like Fonte who made Lovren look like a World Class defender. Don't know who exactly is out there who fits the description. Maybe Miranda?

    Stones or Marquinhos.

Stones for the English core and the fit with Smalling, Marquinhos because he's the best talent available.

    [–]Izio17[S] 0ポイント1ポイント  (1子コメント)

Stones taken a down turn this season in my eyes, it may have more to do with Everton than Stones though.

    [–]homa-bird 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

Yeah I'm cautious about that, much like we're a very negative team that makes our defensive players look better than they are individually, Everton is too positive and puts an extra burden on their defensive players...

    Laporte is apparently city bound

    [–]Izio17[S] 1ポイント2ポイント  (1子コメント)

I've heard much of the same.

However, Renato Sanches was a United player until yesterday. So I won't believe it until Laporte is in a blue shirt.
