Yeah I think with everyone fit and playing we should be too much for Palace, we broke down because of the occasion last night, we haven't often conceded 3 in a game this season (only v. Spurs, Arsenal, Newcastle!). Put a couple past Palace and we should see it out, they're really not great.

No, I'm sure CP after watching yesterday's game will feel up for it. If they press us like they did to us at Selhurst Park, we're going to be in for another long 90mins.

I got 2 tickets to this thinking we could really win it after the leicester draw.

No I don't feel like going :(

Yes

Yeah but

I just don't care as much as I should. It's silverware, okay, but I don't feel bullish about the club in general at the moment.

I'm more confident about being abducted by aliens than the final.

Nope, we seem to crumble under pressure.

It's worrisome. For palace it will be the first real game they've had in a few months, and silverware is massive for a team like that, they'll literally be playing like it's a cup final.

We on the other hand had a game last night that was arguably more important and didn't turn up at all. Same against Norwich, same againt psv and Wolfsburg, expecting nothing more against bournmouth.

Not anymore.

If we gotten 4th then we would have had real momentum going into the final, but now it wouldn't surprise me one bit if we lost. I've also looked at some teams that have made the FA cup final recently ie Aston Villa(lol), Hull and Wigan and damn this competition has declined massively.

Not really sure what you're getting at it. It's a cup competition, anything can happen. Besides, since the turn of the century, 14 of the 16 finals have been won by Arsenal, City, Chelsea, Liverpool, and us (other two are Portsmouth in 2008, who beat Cardiff , and Wigan in 2013, who beat City). Big teams win this competition and typically do so against other big teams.

Yes but I'm clearly talking about the recent trend in which Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Hull and Wigan have all reached the final in the last 4 years. All of them teams are lower table/relegation standard, combine this with the fact that many "top" teams just play their reserves and 2nd tier teams has clearly lead to a decline in the competition in both quality and prestige.

List of FA Cup final participants since 2000 and their league finishes:

  • 2000: Chelsea (5th) winners over Aston Villa (6th)

  • 2001: Liverpool (3rd) winners over Arsenal (2nd)

  • 2002: Arsenal (1st) winners over Chelsea (6th)

  • 2003: Arsenal (2nd) winners over Southampton (8th)

  • 2004: United (3rd) winners over Millwall (10th in Championship)

  • 2005: Arsenal (2nd) winners over United (3rd)

  • 2006: Liverpool (3rd) winners over West Ham (9th)

  • 2007: Chelsea (2nd) winners over United (1st)

  • 2008: Portsmouth (8th) winners over Cardiff City (12th in Championship)

  • 2009: Chelsea (3rd) winners over Everton (5th)

  • 2010: Chelsea (1st) winners over Portsmouth (20th - relegated)

  • 2011: Man City (3rd) winners over Stoke (13th)

  • 2012: Chelsea (6th) winners over Liverpool (8)

  • 2013: Wigan (18th - relegated) winners over Man City (2nd)

  • 2014: Arsenal (4th) winners over Hull City (14th)

  • 2015: Arsenal (3rd) winners over Aston Villa (17th)

So of those 16 finals, 14 of them are Premier League-only matchups. The average league finish of the winners of those 14 matchups is 4th, while the average league finish of the runners-up in those same matchups was 8th.

Add in the two finals that had non-Premier League participants, and the average finish of the winners is still pretty much 4th, and the average finish of the runners-up is 11th on the entire league table (10th in Championship = 30th, etc.)

Fact is, we've had a decade & half of, by and large, top half Premier League teams meeting in FA Cup finals.

[–]SonnyisKing 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

Oh look another person putting in a lot of information and saying basically nothing....Why you've mentioned all the teams from the last decade I have no idea, I was clearly talking about the last 4 years not 10 years.

If you don't think the FA cup has declined or lost it's prestige then you're nuts. It's now simply a case of If you're in the final then "it's a nice trophy" but if you're not then it's the case of "didn't want to win it anyway because".

[–]MichelPlatini[S] 0ポイント1ポイント  (1子コメント)

I know, even we managed to get to the final lol

[–]SonnyisKing -1ポイント0ポイント  (0子コメント)

We drew the likes of Sheffield, Derby and Shrewesbury early on lmao. Last season we played teams like Yeovil and Cambridge.....

Damn compare some of these fixtures to the ones Fergie had to deal with in his last few years, LVG has been lucky as fuck with drawing these awful lower league teams.

Nope never did , especially with Valencia and Rojo as our fullbacks
