Late night procrastination rant (self.reddevils)

It's finals week and I'm pulling an all nighter tonight and the last thing I want to do right now is study so I figured I should procrastinate. I'm a fairly new United fan (declared my fandom after watching 2008 CL final and made me fall in love with the game) but hadn't started really following soccer heavily until about 4 years ago but since then I have been obsessed. So forgive my ignorance.

Anyway, as I sit here in my Rooney jersey, I can't help but reflect on the season a bit.

This season has been an absolute bore. I used to set my alarm at 6am after a heavy night of binge drinking (Iowa City) just so I can wake up and watch the boys but now I can't even bring myself to watch the late afternoon games because I could spend my time more wisely. I'm indifferent about LVG. I think he is trash but at the same time he kept United contending for CL with a squad full of youngsters with little experience and old guys whose best days are behind them. I would like to see Giggsy get the nod because I feel as if he might still have the SAF spark in him but his inexperience makes me nervous. I do know one thing though, Jose can fuck right off. I'd rather have LVG than Jose.

Yes I understand he is one of the best managers in the game and what not but he is a massive cunt and I honestly can't see myself supporting United with him at the helm (yes, I know that's shallow). I think his tactics are garbage and he will just be a worse continuation of this "philosophy". I don't understand why everyone wants him so bad other than "he's one of the best to ever manage" and I get that he wins trophies but fuck, his style is so damn boring and he's a cunt.

I like to think I'm a loyal fan (diehard Chicago Cubs, New York Jets, and Iowa Hawkeyes fan so I have been through more than my fair share of disappointment) and maybe I just have a sour taste in my mouth but I can feel myself entering fandom free agency depending on how this summer goes.

Jose did manage clubs before his last borefest with Chelsea. In fact, some of his former clubs' highest scoring seasons have been under Mourinho.

United not sacking managers is a fucking myth. Only Fergie and Busby escaped the sack.

If you really care about this club you should be worried and bored out of your mind. Even Scholes is publically saying the same thing. And that's just one of the points really.

And he wants to jump ship because of our poor fortunes? That's the epitome of being a plastic fan and more of a football fan that likes United rather than a United fan.

You don't stop being a fan of the club unless it ceases to exist, does something deplorable in sporting and human terms, or well, you just stop caring about football altogether. Gun to head and all don't count because those are hardly probable scenarios.

I never said I was jumping ship because of results. Like I said, I'm used to disappointment. I just do not like Jose and him coming to my favorite team makes me question everything. Results do not matter to me, for the sake of this argument anyway. But you may be right in the sense that I may be just be a football fan that likes United. I guess I just haven't been a fan of United long enough to develop a deep love for the club.

I mean... I'd loathe the person(prime minister or president) in office for his policies and such but it wouldn't make me hate my country or something like that just because of that though.

And if you think Mourinho's a prick, which he is in cases, you must've not known that ferguson was one too on many levels.

And if Mourinho comes in and does well, it'll make it less of an issue with his personality which isn't always bad honestly. It's bad at times and horrible for the eye poke, Eva thing and such, but some people make it seem like he's the reincarnation of hitler with how they've mentioned it.

Ferguson wasn't a saint, but he is not in the same league as Mourinho.

Mourinho is an arrogant prick, and yes, if he had been ours, I wouldn't be as spiteful, but he does some questionable things which Ferguson himself would never have done.

Would Ferguson ever have poked someone in the eye? Would he ever have sacked his medical staff for doing their job? Would he ever have refused to take a single interview for the entire season, and when he comes out, he basically calls the entire FA a joke?

The president being elected, let's say Trump for example is a completely different situation because he's being voted in, Mourinho is being handpicked from a list of candidates who goes against certain aspects of the club's ethos.

I would never jump ship from United, but many American supporters who have no loyalty to one club care more about spiritual and ideological elements which make this club as it is. Supporting United has a bragging right because we do it the United way, not by sacking a manager every 2-3 years. Sacking a manager ever 2-3 years isn't modern football, it's not a modern concept, it's been around forever. I look at it this way, and I think others do too, if you're not looking for longevity in a strategy, you're never going to get it.
