I'm not a NASCAR fan by any stretch, but I can honestly say Talladega is a really fun time. I'd definitely recommend getting a radio headset and listening to the broadcast for the most part. It helps you get a sense of what's happening and protects your hearing because the cars are unbelievably loud, especially if you're seated close to the track (I'd recommend sitting as high up as possible).

Also, pick a driver and watch them every time they pass. It'll really help you see how the race develops and you'll realize it's not just one left turn after another.

But most of all, have fun. Sure it's hot, the people can be drunken rednecks, and you'll see more hairy backs than a zookeeper, but it's as fun as you make it.
